Obama: Gitmo Likely Won’t Close Soon

President-elect Barack Obama said this weekend that he does not expect to close Guantanamo Bay in his first 100 days in office.

“I think it’s going to take some time and our legal teams are working in consultation with our national security apparatus as we speak to help design exactly what we need to do,” Obama said in an exclusive “This Week” interview with George Stephanopoulos, his first since arriving in Washington.
“It is more difficult than I think a lot of people realize,” the president-elect explained. “Part of the challenge that you have is that you have a bunch of folks that have been detained, many of whom may be very dangerous who have not been put on trial or have not gone through some adjudication. And some of the evidence against them may be tainted even though it’s true. And so how to balance creating a process that adheres to rule of law, habeas corpus, basic principles of Anglo-American legal system, by doing it in a way that doesn’t result in releasing people who are intent on blowing us up.”

I agree, if Gitmo remains open we should fill it with Bush and Cheney and all their cronies.
But I do hope that they will close down Gitmo as soon as possible. The 1st 100 days would have been nice, but it seems to be yet another pre-election promise being tossed out the window.

None of these prisoners can ever be tried because they have been coerced. If Obama decides not to release all of them immediately, and not to put on trial all those involved in this crime against humanity, then it is the same as though he himself had put them in there in the first place.

Stop doing that!!!! Stop allowing doubt. It’s like saying it’s “possible” someone could be pregnant? You either are or are NOT. By saying the word possible you allow for a million miles of doubt. Stop doing that. It’s possible the buildings were detonated? It’s possible that there were highjackers? It’s possible that Bin Laden created 911? It’s possible the Saddam has WMD’s? What would allow for proof or verification of the planes? NEVER in the history of aviation has video proven a crash. Though the first thing you mention are the videos and photos! Stop doing that. Only WRECKAGE verifies a plane crash. Stop providing plausible deniability to these criminals. I understand the urge to never fully accept the fact that there were no planes on 9-11. Because the implications are daunting in their scope. It also explains EVERYTHING! It explains every single anomaly with the “videos”. Explains the governments, media, law enforcements, and military’s unwillingness to investigate, explain, or verify ANYTHING from 911. Explains an 8 billion dollar payout to the victims. Explains a $15 Billion dollar payout to the airline industry within 2 weeks of 911. Explains the blanket “security gag order” for the entire US military, police, firemen, and any government personnel who knew anything about 911. It explains why 8 of the 19 highjackers were found alive and well after 911. Stop using doubt in your mind to avoid what no planes on 911 means. The day you fully accept it….it will be like a Rosetta stone which will explain ALL your questions.

Wow, first three days in office and he’s got 5 – count’em – 5 executive orders. This is a record in history. The next immediate concern is getting these terrorist harbored into America, I knew this guy was bad news.
I think what they’ll do is put them into already prepared camps here in America, then suddenly one day a prison break takes place. Now you got a NEW war on terror.
The media does their job by showing faces on t.v saying “do your part, help catch these terrorists”- showing faces of people that are already dead or showing poorly sketched pictures of average looking Americans putting 50% of the population as suspect. You can just imagine the crap that will take place…bombs going off, bio-chemical attacks, etc.
