WASHINGTON – Barack Obama told House Democrats on Tuesday that as president he would order his attorney general to scour White House executive orders and expunge any that “trample on liberty,” several lawmakers said.
Presidents, as head of the executive branch of government, issue such orders to direct operations of executive branch agencies, like the Justice Department and the CIA. For example, President Bush used an executive order last year to breathe new life into the CIA’s controversial terror interrogation program that allowed harsh questioning of suspects.
Obama “talked about how his attorney general is to review every executive order and immediately eliminate those that trample on liberty,” said Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y.
“He indicated there would be a review in his administration,” said Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., the House majority whip.
Obama did not mention executive orders when he addressed reporters who waited for him outside the closed-door meeting. He said only that he would be campaigning alongside members to win the presidency and help expand Democratic majorities in the House and Senate.
“I am looking forward to collaborating with everyone here to win the election, but more importantly to collaborate with everybody here and also some like-minded Republicans to actually govern and to deliver on behalf of the American people,” Obama said.
During his presidency, Bush increasingly has relied on executive orders to dictate policies without seeking congressional approval. His orders have ranged from restrictions on striped bass fishing to sanctions against Myanmar’s government.
Obama did not indicate who his attorney general would be, or any other member of his Cabinet. To lawmakers who asked about his Cabinet plans, Obama said: “Get me elected, and then I’ll worry about the Cabinet,” according to Nadler.
Clyburn added that Obama said there were “people in the room with more expertise than him.”
Obama’s meeting with the House Democratic caucus came hours after he spoke with both Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke about the faltering economy, part of his effort to refocus the campaign on domestic issues after last week’s foreign trip.
Obama spokesman Michael Ortiz said the senator and Bernanke discussed the outlook for consumers and businesses, as well as the effect of rising home foreclosures on families nationwide. They also talked about the “strengths of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and other financial institutions,” Ortiz said.

He will just change the words, and keep the policy. He is scum. And the media and the brain dead public will let him do whatever he (or his handlers) wants. McCain or Obama no matter, the policy stays the same.

If this is the case, I say we hold him to this pledge. Both Executive Orders and Signing Statements are absolutely unconstitutional. -period-

Just cherry picking according to what is right in his own eyes.

Not a problem! I’m sure if you can prove your bloodline, then you too can be a recipient of the Great American Give-a-way! However, just remember, it wasn’t my ancestors that screwed yours. My ancestors didn’t own slaves either. Are you ready to pay for the mistakes of your ancestors, or better yet…pay for the errant deeds of someone else’s ancestors folly and mindset decades ago? Remembering also, this current generation griping for reparations, didn’t suffer and want to benefit monetarily for something that happened to someone they didn’t even know long long ago.. We could circle the globe doing this with no ending. We never seem to want to learn from the past, just get paid for it.
Gee can someone pay me a lump sum for all the mis-deeds done to me personally by others? Just where is my lawyers cell number ?

I dont know if this is the right place to put this comment but in my opinion I would love to see this site support an online text chat or better yet voice chat. Think of the resposes that would come in to this site maybe even overloading the servers. Perhaps even recording sessions and putting the conversations on youtube as this could be a way of being our own “FOX” news supporting a REVOLUTION not only by forums alone but by voice. Maybe we can “Be an Army of One” and have Ron Paul as our general.

What’s up with Infowars holding it’s punches with Obama. Is Alex a secret liberal? Obama is a piece of crap like McCain. Did you guys here his Germany speech? Holy cow…an outline for a bigger world government and expansion to the UN. Yet no article about it on Infowars that I saw.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:43 am
If we are going to defeat the possiblity of Obamanation, McInsane, or Bush or Cheney becoming dicatator for longer, then, for every Obama article, their should be a McCain Article. Ron Paul? Millions of tax payers money for shrimp research with ear-marks. Who told ‘The Exchange’, a New Hampshire Public Radio Show, before a GOP Debate, approx. 2 ago, that he would be for sending military troops to China. Same kind of plan that these John Birchers who occupied The GOP in the 60’s, who got us into Vietnam along with The War Hawk Democrats, did. Do you have idea what would happen if we sent military troops to China? This is how we are going to get out of debt with them? Shame on Alex Jones and gcnlive.com! Just Say No! Dont’ Vote! Shut them all down! The best vote you could ever make this time around! Ron Paul is a fraud! A John Birch Soceity Council On Foreign Relations Front! Who would just kick the poor in the teeth even more with welfare deform! WAKE UP ALEX JONES! Stop trying to bait and switch us!

#13 DK …. Infowars did several articles on Obama’s speech in Germany. One was called “Obama calls for a new world order. or something like that. It was posted the day after he did the speech.
In the defense of Infowars, they pulling punches on Obama no more than they pull them with McCain or even Hillary. I see articles on him almost everyday here.

I want to vomit every time I hear a politician talking about doing things “on behalf of the American people”. Bush is a great one for throwing that around.
Obama wants to take the USA toward world government. That is what he is all about. When someone asked him about the North American Union, he pretended not to know what that was.
Look at his mannerisms when he talks. Look at how he holds himself. He’s an “elite”, a globalist, and that is all he is.

Riddle Me This
Your question does lead to some interesting quandaries. For example, would they pay reparations according to skin color-obvious ethnicity, or will it be by bloodline(s) with genetic testing or sheer ancestry and birth records.
Not all dark skinned ethnic peoples were from Africa.
To play both sides, I guess anyone could say they were from Africa being that ‘they’ (whoever they are) say we all came from one female person from Africa.
So, I guess we’re in the same ethical boat, and we can pay reparations to ourselves!
yyyyeeeeeeessss!

Haha… expansion to the U.N. The U.N. is a joke. Countless countries have “disobeyed” U.N. rules (not just America) and no one does anything about it. Mostly because one country would have to take action and thus risk alienating themselves if other countries do not support them.

Obama, who is a super-Globalist, talking about liberties is a joke.
Why doesn’t he make that a major campaign promise? Obviously because bringing up that topic casts one in an unfavorable light with the powers that be.
He is a disgusting politcian who will say anything to get his ass in power, end of story.

Eh… I think if Obama says he’ll repeal anti-liberty executive orders – that’s a good thing. As for the Patriot Act – that’s up to the Congress to repeal.
