Obama Website Scrubs Mandatory Community Service Call

Following a controversy over language that appeared on Barack Obama’s official website suggesting that Americans would be mandated to complete up to 100 hours of community service as part of a national service program, the original text has been memory-holed and replaced with a more sanitized version.
Despite numerous bloggers picking up on the switch, along with screenshots from before and after proving the language was changed, mesmerized Obama supporters are still claiming that that detractors had invented the language and that the website had not been altered.
The text from Obama’s change.gov website, which went online shortly after the election result, originally appeared as follows (emphasis mine).
Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year.
The text was changed at some point on Friday afternoon/evening to the following (emphasis mine).
Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free.

On a separate area of the website, the program was also described under the heading “Require 100 hours of service in college,” but this has also since disappeared.
Clearly, the use of the word “require” suggested that the program would be mandatory, stoking fears that such community service programs would be one aspect of Obama’s promised “civilian national security force” that is “just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as the U.S. military.
“The language of requiring students to serve and the creation of a “Classroom Corps” sparked a surge of criticism from bloggers for bringing back memories of the much-publicized video of marching Obama youth and Obama’s “civilian national security force,” which the candidate said in July would be just as powerful and well-funded as the U.S. military,” reports World Net Daily.

“Gateway Pundit called Obama’s plan the “creation of his Marxist youth corps,” and DBKP commented, “‘Choosing’ to serve should be approved by parents – not required by the government. No amount of good intentions can sugar-coat words like ‘mandatory,’ ‘compulsory’ or ‘required.’”
The fact that the language has been sanitized suggests the people behind Obama’s transition to power were worried about elevating the controversy surrounding Obama’s “national civilian security force,” a wildly popular story on the Internet and blogs, but one that has received scant attention from the mainstream media.
Despite the documented fact that the text was altered on Friday, Obama kool-aid drinkers refuse to acknowledge it, claiming that bloggers simply made up the story and that the website was never changed.
“They are calling me — and all of you who have written about this so far — liars. Despite the facts of the screenshots. This is how far they are prepared to go,” writes one blogger, adding, “The highlighted text that was the subject of our previous article is just gone. Gone. Gone without explanation or acknowledgement. Furthermore one of their minions writes in a comment telling us that it was never there in the first place, that I misquoted it. Is it really going to be this easy to manipulate the truth, to manipulate us? Evidently they think so.”
A Newsvine blogger also described the efforts of Obama supporters to dismiss the story as a concocted hoax.
Fears of “youth brigades” or civilian stasi units increased following Obama’s appointment of Rahm Emanuel to chief-of staff.
In his book, “The Plan: Big Ideas for America,” Emanuel writes: “It’s time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We propose universal civilian service for every young American. Under this plan, all Americans between the ages of 18 and 25 will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation and community service.”
The book also notes, “Some Republicans will squeal about individual freedom, ruling out any likelihood that they would let people opt out of universal citizen service.”
Emanuel is also an enthusiastic supporter of the United States Public Service Academy Act, a lobbying group founded in 2006 in order to promote the foundation of an American public service academy modeled on the military academies – a youth corps whose students would be trained in “civilian internship in the armed forces”.

I clearly read the first post on the change.gov website and I can attest that is what it originally said. I even sent out an email to everyone in my college class with the link but since they changed it, nobody believes that the original plan was to have the mandatory community service ala socialist USA

Thanks for taking those screenshots. This almost ended in the memory hole. My co-workers now believe me that the United States is a fascist dictatorship and that the election is total puppetry. The $700 billion takeover, more like 5 trillion, was the dead give away that this government is totally illegitimate. When they declare martial law and suspend the constitution, it is treason, so don’t feel guilty gunning down the troops in the streets. This is why the founding fathers put the right to bear arms in there. Thegunsource dot com is totally sold out of assault weapons so now I am willing to pay top dollar at a local gun shop. My oldest son was REQUIRED by the International Baccalaureate Program to complete 150 of volunteer service AND maintain a 4.0 unweighted grade point average and participate in sports AND get a great SAT score AND you know what? He completed, with honors, FOUR years at a Major university FOR FREE!!!!!! You should PUSH your kids to TRY IT INSTEAD of wasting you time here!

It has many dem, GOP, educators and individuals already behind it. The location, building blueprint, mission statement are already in place. The next step is voting it in and funding. MORONS – the wording, even if it DID say “require” is obviously meant: IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THE MONEY TO PAY FOR YOUR COLLEGE.
The entire IDEA is clearly linked to college tuition, as it was all throughout the campaign when Obama spoke about it regularly.

This appears to me that someone put up the first bit of information prematurely and it needed correction. If you watched or listened to the whole speech you would have caught this.
One hundred hours of high school community service = $4,000 towards college? Looks like a fine sweat equity policy to me. I wish I had that support.

It’s always a choice of lesser evils. This one was obvious to me.
YES, I believe that the real global superpowers act outside of the limelight and essentially own governments; 911 was a dirty ploy to keep us eternally engaged in some form of war; organizaed religion is a means of controlling civilization (though it can be good for some people) and it’s all based on astrology and agriculture.
Though I also totally believe that business operations of all forms have taxed the environment for far too long… I would support an environmental havoc tax over income tax any day, any time. Bloomberg’s $.05/plastic bag is a great start.

Second Mike and Shep. Could anybody constructively argue on the facts what is sooo dead wrong with the deal of spending a few hours of community service and getting your university education partially funded in return?? Whats the different to spending time in the boy scouts? Isnt that a youth organization with emphasis on the community as well and socially accepted?
By the way, how about an article that introduces the change.gov site? I find that idea quite nice to have a transparent policy/agenda with clear language on what problems are ahead and what solutions are offered. And they encourage people to make suggestions (of coz u can argue, that this is again an illusion of democracy and participation and in what way the suggestions will be displayed and taken into consideration, but still.. i would be glad if my government would do that).

I’m happy to see that other people are seeing what I’m seeing with Infowars. We can’t fight a propaganda war with a propaganda war, and that’s all we’ve been doing. Not only that but we’ve become bad conspiracy theorists. We’ve come to accept the fact that we’re told, as per the norm, only the facts are different.
Instead of terrorists it’s the Bush Administration that caused 9/11, it’s the Illuminati that controls the world. Yes, this is a logical deduction if you’re aware of how power and greed affects people, but it doesn’t make it all true.
Conspiracy theorism is about spreading questioning. If we accept these answers we’re given as blindly as we have than all we’ve done is continue this destructive cycle (destructive initially to the individual, but as more blind people are willing to accept what they’re told the world is, we’ve accomplished nothing).
The only accomplishment I see this website making right now is spreading awareness and fear. Tell me that’s not terrorism.
This site hasn’t even given us a direction, a movement. If anything it’s given us the opposite. It’s made a society of people who are scared to leave their houses, who would rather find a way to circumvent society than to find solutions to change it.
We’re still dumb, lazy Americans with the idea that we’ve got the answer. Unfortunately we don’t, but if we can keep finding the questions maybe someday we’ll find the answers.

Hans, you are the one who can’t read here. The “America Serves” webpage screenshot in the article above clearly differentiates between middle- and highschoolers doing 50 hours of mandatory service AS SUCH, and “college students” (that is, highschoolers intending to go to college) doing an (extra?) 50 hours on top of that to get the $ 4000 dollar discount.
Furthermore, here on Infowars we were specifically discussing the *content* of this call to service. We were talking about what these youngsters are likely to be made to do while they are serving. You downplay the content of their service, saying “Oh, it will probably be like just the socially accepted scouts”, but how on earth do you know that it is going to be like the scouts? In Emanuel’s beloved Israel, they have 18 year olds with machine guns patroling the Fence as well as strip-searching Palestinians at checkpoints. Is this your idea of the new American “scouts”?
You seem to think that virtually anything these kids are ordered to do will be perfectly OK, perfectly within the bounds of reason, “just keep your mind on the money/the $ 4 000 carrot at the end of the tunnel, kids”. How corrupt is that? Are you so ethically bankrupt that you are willing to have your kids spy on your fellow citizens in exchange for some money?
You accuse us of looking at the world through a “hateful” lens, but you yourself are looking at the world through a “just gimme gimme, my kid will perform any job/service, no questions asked, just give me the money to pay for college” mercenary lens. Nobody is saying community service is a bad thing. The problem is introduced when government requires a free people to do something against their will. If you want your child to volunteer or join the military, you have the FREEDOM to do so. Of course parents should encourage their children to be active, educated and informed about society. That is part of the reason people come to this website. It is a source of information that they can not find anywhere else and allows them to make more informed decisions.
Obama fooled me once, when I thought he was an anti-war candidate. That was long ago and I will not be fooled by him again.

I was one of the first to see change.gov – and I pointed out several times the things they had on there. They included hidden text and hidden urls in their source code. It doesn’t surprise me much that Obama supporters now disapprove this as a hoax, they are beyond repair. I saw it with my own eyes, and that’s enough for me.

I have many mixed feelings. Yes I have read 1984, I understand “youth brigade” and “memory hole” and the Ministry of love and thought police. I dont think giving back to our country is a bad idea. Not at all. Do you people realize the sacrifices made by your families during WWII. People from that time are proud for what they did. Im not saying it should be mandatory but why not give back. A little benevolence has never hurt anyone. It is sad that no one will do it and complains at the thought of it. No just sit back and reap benefits and dont worry about the poor, homeless, sick and handicapped. It is like my 9 year old not wanting to walk around my neighborhood and pick up trash. He doesnt want to but isnt it for the best. So Im mixed. I think it is a good idea to give back but it should be our choice. To bad most of you are to lazy to choose

Community Service is a good thing. Every step of the way in the Boy scouts the boys have to do so many hours of community service. For the Citizenship in the Community badge they must do 8 hrs of community service. For each rank they have to do so many hours of community service. I think there is a difference in how it is “mandated”. Obama’s “mandate” is different than the “mandate” the boy scouts use. You can stay in the boy scouts if you choose not to do the community service, you just won’t get certain badges, or advance in rank. But you can still stay in and do lots of other things. Obama’s is you do it or else kind of thing.

Time will tell if this is just a smokescreen or a genuine reversal of a policy that reeked of an unconstutional smell. Unfortunately, I believe it is the former, however, in an effort to be positive I will say that free thinking protests such as some of those on this site and others had an impact.
As the old saying goes: “Action speaks louder than words.” This is a reaffirmation of the principles of free individuals acting in unison to take non-violent action against the NWO. True, it is only a small victory but a victory nonetheless. Don’t let this lull you into a false sense of security. Continual action is required until the NWO becomes impatient and uses violence to enforce its’ policies. Once that occurs, as it already has in many past instances, we must respond with non-violence, that is the only way to bring about a serious reevaluation of the NWO’s activities. Not, it is important to remember by the elites, but by the rank and file; the police officer, the soldier, the administrator, the clerk and so on those who keep the NWO machine working.
When they begin to doubt, the whole structure begins to weaken. I know many, if not most of you, are angry and fearful. These emotions often make people resort to violence. Don’t fall for that trap! The NWO is expecting you to respond this way it is the only way they can justify their control. Do the research see for yourself how non-violent movements have successfully torn down seemingly indestructible systems.
Non-violence blunts the policeman’s baton, jams the soldiers rifle, frustrates the administrator and bores the clerk to sleep. One relatively recent example in the U.S. is the Civil Rights Movement. Without getting lost in the rights and wrongs of particular leaders or policies that movement created, generally speaking, the non-violent approach forced the NWO to eventually open the door to non-Whites even though then, much more than now, there was a strong racist element within the NWO.
An entire way of thinking was changed. Yes it took decades and still there are remnants of it today but it worked. Regretably, the NWO was able to turn this loss into a victory by enticing those who were once refused entry into their world with a sampling of its’ riches and power.

Here in Germany we basically have to do military service or community service which is actually working in retirement homes, hospitals, working with disabled people, kids from the projects and this kind of things. That is my understanding of community service, which i think is a good thing.
So i dont see how #27 NOPE goes from that to “have your kids spy on your fellow citizens in exchange for some money”. That is ridiculous. I would also rather see it as a motivation.

Your situation is unique. European nations as a whole have some form of “national service” usually related to military duties. However, the U.S. was founded much more on the principle of individual freedom. The U.S. Constitution is being systematically destroyed. It would be akin to the German Constiution being taken apart piece by piece all under the watchful eyes of the NWO (New World Order).
In addition, I believe you fail to realize, the long-term implications of such “service”. Have you ever heard of the saying: “no good deed goes unpunished.”? This “community service” holds out the promise of a paltry $4,000 towards a college education which generally costs $20,000 or more at a decent institution, further trapping people into more debt. Also, this service would prevent people (mostly young), from directing their energies towards actions against the NWO and promote the idea of citizens serving the State when it is supposed to be the exact opposite!
I realize helping elderly people in hospitals gives one the sense of fulfillment but the NWO uses this genuine feeling against you by implementing plans tied into this service that are anything but fulfilling. I recommend you research the many documentaries of the NWO on Google or YouTube there you’ll find the reasons why so many people doubt the sincerity of this and other “good deeds”.

Also, if these were truly jpg “screenshots”, it would have captured not only the date at the top of the screen (conveniently left out, of course) but also small items such as the orange colored bar right above “agenda”.

hi CW, maybe you are right and that is the one of the main cultural differences between the states and europe. Being build up one these “rights of the individual” was the right way for your founding fathers and is still valid to a large degree. Nonetheless, as much as i love having my individual freedoms at one point or another you have to realize that you live in a society, which means that the strong should look after the weak and might help from time to time. ok just my two cent from over the sea.

Your sentiments are obviously sincere and I believe many in the world see it that way but unfortunately, the NWO does not. You mentioned “the strong should look after the weak” I ask you, Who is strong? and Who is weak?.
Having read, wrote and researched this issue for several years I can tell you that the strong are the NWO but it is a strength born of hatred and cynicism.The weak are those that benefit the least from this global structure roughly 90% of the world’s population.
If you were to add most people in the west, their governments and a handful of people in developing countries one could say that on one level they benefit, particularly in material possessions which is not freedom so much as corporatism. Yet, even this “benefit” is being eroded. Cost of living increases, crushing individual debt, massive outsourcing of jobs, excessive taxation just to name a few are significantly lowering the standard of living in the “prosperous” west.
This is one of the core elements of NWO beliefs; a stark indifference to the plight of the individual and a cruel contempt for the “masses”. True strength is expressed in compassion, honesty, justice and care. Qualities that are not viewed as strengths by the NWO, on the contrary, they are viewed as weaknesses.
I applaud your desire to help the weak but I am afraid if the NWO isn’t stopped we will all be “the weak”.

I think its a great idea to have young people serve their country and actually learn really good values. Young people today, not all but most, are very self centered. In other countries around the world its mandatory for the youth to serve their country, it should be done here as well. Maybe they could stop watching that MTV crap and actually do some good for other people. I don’t see how this is a bad idea. I would like to see kids doing good for others and themselves rather than selling and using drugs.

although I do not support a required service to a civilian security force (whatever THAT turns out to be), I really don’t see anything at all wrong with mandatory community service for students (of any age). Its actually a great way for the young to get more involved with their community’s and to help them realize that WE ARE A WORLD COMMUNITY!! We should be doing things for others on a regular basis for no reason other than the fact you are HELPING OTHERS. It is our disconnection to each other and nature that is helping the NWO succeed with their plans. A global community IS what the world needs, just not the corporate money making one that they want. I think you all need to give Obama a chance before you judge him. You do all realize that he has probably had no say whatsoever in what goes out to the People in his name. Once this happens they move into set up more legislation and pass more laws in the meantime the people are unemployed, homeless, hungry and poor so what happens when that happens, riots, stealing,killings and so on. Complete chaos and devastation amongst us. How do you protect yourself from this PLOY? Go and buy food stock up on everything you think you will need in order to survive and take your money from the GO and hide it. It will come down to the survival of the informed and the ones who are not ignorant okay. The ones relying On Obama and the Congress to get us out of this mess will not make it. The only ones to get us out of this mess is the American people. Protect yourself and America from this okay. Just stock up on food before it’s too late. They WANT US TO SUFFER. They want chaos in order to invoke their next attack on us which is MARTIAL LAW. Our right to bare arms taken away for sure. They need a plan in order to pass such laws so it is coming to this. Wake up and do no let the GO do this to American and the people. That is precisely why OBAMA wants to have a civilian military force as big and powerful as the Governments. If enough people become aware of this to prepare themselves family and friends to get stored up on emergency supplies most importantly food. The G wouldn’t know what happened to their plan because all of America will know about this prepared for this and no CHAOS for them to invoke more laws on us. Americans can beat the G at their own game and that is to become aware, prepare and start making the necessary steps to protect yourself and the ones you love and enough love and support that when this happens we will all be calm, no fighting,no killing and every one can help one another out in this horrendous act set forth by the secret sector and the G. What would the G be able to do if their plan failed them. Wake up America. Pass it along to everyone to prepare for this and not to react. If you don’t react the G can’t enforce their commie laws. They can’t have their martial law and civilian troops upon us to invade our homes, arrest us , kill us, detain us and take away our rights our children from us our property, savings, our life as it was, is and should be plus our freedom to live and our constitutional rights set forth by our founding fathers. If we don’t stand up and so NO, what are they going to make us do next? Please my fellow Americans don’t fall into this trap! They will try convince you this is the right thing to do because it will benefit the community, but all your doing is turning over your rights! You may laugh but we are heading towards a dictatorship. The people as supposed to control the government not the other way.
