This will probably not turn out to be the reconstruction of the new Republic or anything equally pleasant. Unfortuantely, When our country falls we will probably be absorbed into a global and “more secure” structure. We need to focus on reality and realize that America’s days of freedom and being an independant republic are largely over. you haven’t heard my argument yet, my argument is the things Jesus said and did in those books. All of those things which are evil about religion is the OPPOSITE to what Jesus says and does in those books. He did not want that. “Screwed” is a relative term. You, Tina, don’t have to be as screwed as many if you recognize the writing on the wall and prepare for it. Protect your dollars before they become worthless. Get any of your money you have invested in stocks, money markets, IRA’s and such out of those sinking ships and into something more secure. Heck, there is a lot of merit to the opinion that money shouldn’t even be kept in banks right now. One overdraft charge, along with all the typical banking fees can wipe out any pittance of an interest most banks offer. I would certainly NOT advise keeping a interest-earning checking account. Money transferred in and out of these non-interest bearing accounts are not reported to the feds (at least they are not supposed to), so it may provide a layer of privacy not otherwise provided.
If you’re looking at precious metals, I personally like silver better than gold because it won’t be confiscated by the government (at least, it would be historically unprecedented and hugely untenable), but owning both is not a bad idea idea.
You have an advantage over most because you are aware of, and accept the fact that the economy is in an engineered depression. Use that information and knowledge to your advantage. Hopefully, you and your loved ones will be on the “more comfortable” end of the “screwed” spectrum when things hit bottom.

In my understanding we have the ability to prepare for what we know. Such as survival. We need food, water, shelter, air, clothing, tools, and firearms as a bonus. Beyond these necessities, NOBODY here can tell anyone how to lay out their finances. If it were as simple as you have stated, we would’nt even have a problem. I have no idea what will work in the coming times to secure your wealth so I won’t act as if I do. I do have a couple of questions for you. When IT happens, do you honestly think you will be able to get away with your backpack full of gold, silver, food, water and guns? A new system will mean new laws forced down your throat. How far do you think you will be able to drive your vehilce to get away from the the house to house sweeps? You may make it to the nearest checkpoint and game over. You could’nt possibly think you will be ok if you hunker down at home. My point is you can’t prepare for the unknown. You can only prep for what you know.

Its hard to predict what the future depression is going to be like, but I’ve heard the stories from my parents and aunts/uncles who grew up during the last deppression, and they stressed that barter was the key to getting by. My grandfather was a stonemason and he would do work for the local dairy farmers for milk, butter, cheese, etc. Knowing some useful skills or having items that can be bartered can be as good as gold.
