Obama and his public relations team have made it appear that his trillion dollars in higher taxes will fall only on “the rich.” Obama stresses that his tax increase is only for the richest 5 percent of Americans while the other 95 percent receive a tax cut.

featured stories Obamas Attack on the Middle Class
Paulson featured stories Obamas Attack on the Middle Class
In 2005 Paulson was paid $38.3 million in salary, stock and options. That is 153 times the annual income of the “rich” $250,000 person.

The fact of the matter is that the income differences within the top
5% are far wider than the differences between the lower tax brackets and the “rich” American in the 96th percentile.

For Obama, being “rich” begins with $250,000 in annual income, the bottom rung of the top 5 percent. Compare this “rich” income to that of, for example, Hank Paulson, President George W. Bush’s Treasury Secretary when he was the head of Goldman Sachs.

In 2005 Paulson was paid $38.3 million in salary, stock and options. That is 153 times the annual income of the “rich” $250,000 person.

Despite his massive income, Paulson himself was not among the super rich of that year, when a dozen hedge fund operators made $1,000 million. The hedge fund honchos incomes were 26 times greater than Paulson’s and 4,000 times greater than the “rich” man’s or family’s $250,000.

For most Americans, a $250,000 income would be a godsend, but envy can make us blind. A $250,000 income is not one that will support a rich lifestyle. Moreover, many people prefer lesser incomes to the years of education, long work hours and stress of personal liability that are associated with many $250,000 incomes. In truth, those with $250,000 gross incomes have more in common with those at the lower end of the income distribution than with the rich. A $250,000 income is ten times greater than a $25,000 income, not hundreds or thousands of times greater. On an after-tax basis, the difference shrinks to about
    6 times.

The American tax code taxes the $250,000 income at the same rate as it taxes a $100,000,000 or higher income. On an after tax basis, after the federal government grabs 30% in income taxes and state government grabs 6%, the “rich” man or woman or family earning $250,000 has $160,000. In New York City, where there is a city income tax in addition to state and federal, this sum diminishes further. State sales taxes take another 6 or more percent of most consumption expenditures.

When all is said and done, the after-tax value of a $250,000 income in New York City is about $140,000.

Is this rich? It might be in a small town in Alabama, but not in New York City. The “rich” person or family won’t be purchasing a Manhattan apartment, much less a brownstone. They won’t be driving a luxury car. Indeed, they won’t be able to afford a parking garage for an economy car. If they fly anywhere, it won’t be in a first class seat.

For the most part, $250,000 incomes are located in large cities where the cost of living is high. For example, a husband and wife who are associates at major law firms, each of whom works 60 hour weeks and has no job security, earn $125,000 each. They might both have student loans to pay down. For the Obama administration to lump these people in with Hank Paulson or billionaire hedge fund operators is propagandistic.

featured stories Obamas Attack on the Middle Class
Obama featured stories Obamas Attack on the Middle Class

What is the difference between the $250,000 “rich” income and the $245,000 “non-rich” income? After Obama’s tax scheme goes into effect, the $245,000 income will benefit from a tax cut, and the $250,000 will have a tax increase. Will people in the 96th percentile ask for pay cuts that will drop them into the 95th percentile?

In America, the truly rich are those in the top 0.5% of the income distribution. These are the people with yachts, private airplanes, and who are still rich after they lose half their wealth in a stock market collapse caused by government policy that accommodated financial gangsters.

“Oh well, I was worth $600,000,000 last year and only $300,000,000 this year. Perhaps we should stop drinking $1,000 bottles of rare vintages and move down to $100 a bottle wines. Probably shouldn’t buy that new yacht or that villa in the south of France.”

The upper middle class with $250,000 gross incomes are major losers of the financial collapse. Many of the people in this income class are leveraged to the hilt in order to maintain appearances and can be swept away as easily as the very poor. But those who were frugal and invested for their future have lost 50% of their savings. These wiped out people are the ones who will bear the brunt of Obama’s tax increase.

If the tax rate on a multi-million dollar annual income goes up by 5 percentage points, the cutbacks won’t really affect the lifestyle. But for the $250,000 gross income group, it means no prospect of private schools and Ivy League education for the children, who will be attending state colleges with the rest of the non-rich.

Obama is attacking the only income class that has any independence– the upper middle class professionals. The real rich are few in number and seldom present any opposition to government. Recently, the New York Times reported (March 23, 2009) that the 400 richest Americans’ “share of the nation’s total wealth has nearly doubled to more than 22 percent.” The average income of the 400 richest Americans is $263 million annually. That is 1,052 times the income of the “rich” $250,000 income.

What the Obama administration is really doing is taxing ordinary people in order to bail out the super rich. The 95% of Americans who get the tax cut will find that it is offset many times by the depreciation in the dollar and the raging inflation that will result from monetizing the multi-trillion dollar budget deficits made necessary by the bailouts of the banksters.

In the United States, government has become expert at manipulating both left-wing and right-wing ideologies. It keeps those on both ends of the spectrum set at each other’s throats in order to ensure the government’s continuing independence from accountability.

Historically, the definition of a free person is a person who owns his own labor. Serfs were not free, because they owed their feudal lords, the government of that time, a maximum of one-third of their labor. Nineteenth century slaves were not free, because their owners could expropriate 50% of their labor.

Today, no American is a free person. The lowest tax rate, not counting state income, property tax and sales tax, is 15% Social Security tax and 15% federal income tax. The “free American” starts off with a 30% tax rate, the position of a medieval serf.

In medieval Europe, when tax rates reached beyond 30%, serfs rebelled and killed their masters.

Obama first of all has to tax himself and his $700 billion in campaign money he got from shadowy donors each donating the max $2000. While Ron Paul’s average donation was $20 from people who had to cut that money out of their pennies, Obama was enjoying government paid for secret service protection squads as the “top tier” candidate (wink wink) and flying around the country in a Boeing 757 large passenger jet that not even *top* executives could afford ( http://www.moonbattery.com/arc.....kes_p.html ), preaching we need to cut back on our living standards to save the earth from deadly toxic satanic carbon dioxide.

Dr. Roberts powerfully tells it like it is yet again! No wonder the neocons aren’t assassinating Obama and/or crucifying him even worse than they already are about this “taxing of the rich”! All of “our” (the U.S.’s) Presidents / dictators lie, especially over the last several decades, and one expects them too, of course; but Obama takes the cake for lying and violating campaign promises as far as I’m concerned, much more so than Bubba Clinton. When are the Obama, literal worshipers like he’s a god going to wake up and stop defending this globalist, anti-Constitutional, anti-freedom, anti-Christian, pro-enslavement liar, if ever?! No wonder the Mayans and Nostradamus say the end is in 2012 (or the end of the end—since we’re in the worst of the beginning of the end right now, and have been in the beginning of the end for quite some time!! And the fact that Obama is NOT seeking the overturning of the unconstitutional “Patriot Act”, etc., is certainly a sign all hell is breaking loose, or is going to very soon, and that we are almost completely “done for”.

People who aren’t awake yet: U.S. presidents are just finite, errant human beings!! They aren’t gods, and they aren’t people we’re supposed to reverence and/or not criticize regardless of what they do or don’t do!! THEY are the traitors, NOT those who criticize these corporate lackeys and “financial gansters”; and the freedom of speech granted by God and the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution were inspired and put into place for the specific purpose of legalizing, encouraging AND MAKING IT A DUTY AND/OR RESPONSIBILITY TO CRITICIZE GOVERNMENT AND FOR THE PEOPLE TO BE AN ADDITIONAL CHECK AND BALANCE ON THE INNEVITABLE ABUSE(S) OF POWER THAT “PUBLIC SERVANTS” WILL INVARIABLY COMMIT, ESPECIALLY WHEN GOVERNMENT GETS AS HUGE AS THE U.S. GOVERNMENT IS TODAY (THE BIGGEST CORRUPT EMPIRACLE AND/OR IMPERIALISTIC GOVERNMENT IN THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF THE WORLD)!! God help us all if the abuses of power of this probably final U.S. president otherwise aren’t totally stopped post-haste!!

    7. Resistance Says:

My old boss was making 120K a year, single and lived the life of a rich person.

You’re so full of it. You really don’t know what a real rich person life is.

Being rich is having more than 2 houses in differents countries. Being rich means you can stop working for 10 years and still you’ll have plenty of money. Being rich means you have over 15 millions. Being rich means going in vacation whenever you fell like it wherever, for whatever period.

Being rich is not having a BMW, a million dollar house and going in high class bars.

      The Saint Reply:

F*uck Money????? Try buying food, health care, gas, heat….without it.

    9. Der Kosmonaut Says:

Oh boy! What Republican drivel this is. Yes you are right $250,000 is not super rich but it sure as hell not poor. How many people make that much a year? That is still affluent. Criticizing a tax increase for people that make at least $250,000 is not going to win friends and influence people.

    10. Zammy Says:

Just do some math: $250000 now, ok, sounds like huge money. Now research a little and try to find real price inflation since 1969. Then ask some old folks how much a skilled employee earned in 1969. Ask them at what age they owned their first car, ask them how they paid for that cool sounding muffler they bolted on, ask them how many hours they worked, ask them how much hours they worked. Ask them how much spare time they had, and how soon they got promoted.
      THEN you will understand…

      dshaw Reply:

It’s all relative to the particular era. What are you talking about. a Coke cost a nickel back then, now it costs a dollar. So what? It’s all relative.

      Jim Reply:

My grandfather, who was a machinist all of his life raised 6 kids on his wages and my grandmother never worked. They always had a nice home and cars and never wanted for good food and nice clothes. My grandfather even owned a winter vacation home in Arizona as well as his family home in Chicago. Try doing that on a machinists wages today! It is not possible. The government has stolen our wealth through inflation over the years! It would easily take 250,000 earnings a year to accomplish what my grandfather did on a blue collar salary. My wife and I are struggling with a combined income of $90,000 per year and while that may seem alot to some, after getting raped in federal, SS, state, county, and real estate taxes there is not anywhere near that for us to live on. We own a modest three bedroom house, have one 10 year old car and one 5 year old car both which we own, no credit card debt, no luxury items like boats, motorcycles…etc and certainly we do not own a vacation home. I too am sick of working my butt off and having 30% of what we earn stolen from us!

Guest what, here in Mexico our Government is passing a bill to supress the legal procedures against all tax laws, so even when the tax laws are inconstitutional THE GOVERNMENT WON’T BE FORCED TO GIVE YOUR MONEY BACK!!! here in Mexico the tax laws are always against the Constitution, therefore, the lawyers win every time, since the government is so stupid that they cannot win, so, lets ban all the procedures! I bet this could be hilarious if it wasn’t real!

“For Obama, being ‘rich’ begins with $250,000 in annual income…”

With recent monumental increases in the money supply, I’d guess that $250,000 will be a very average income before too long.

“WE THE PEOPLE” must make ourselves heard! Over 90% of Americans did not want the first bail-out to take place back in 2008. Guess what? Our elected representatives ignored us. Over 90% of Americans do not want this bailout to go through. Guess what? Our leaders are ignoring us.

It’s high time to march en masse on D.C. This rep vs. dem paradigm keeps us from talking to each other and keeps us blind. We must start talking to one another as “WE THE PEOPLE”. A date should be set and every capable man and woman should take that day off from work and march! This can’t work unless it is done on a weekday that directly affects the pocketbooks of rich. All of the different groups should also come together on this day. We’ve been compartmentalized for far too long.

Why is no one questioning the billions that went to foreign banks in the bailouts? Why are we the tax-payers on the hook for those billions that went to foreign banks? WHERE’S THE ANGER AMERICA?

We need leaders who will put America first. Obviously, all reps and dems need to go. They’ve done nothing except screw this country for the last thirty years. We must stop the infighting amongst ourselves. This is not a dem vs. rep issue. It only keeps us separated.

The federal reserve is not a federal entity at all. It is an international conglomeration of bankers.

Ron Paul has suggested a simple, cost-effective way to immediately help our economy, the value of our dollar and our standard of living, by permanently eliminating all personal and business tax. Replace it with nothing– no flat tax, no VAT, no sales tax. It would push our federal budget all the way back to levels last seen in 1997. The rest of us are already living on less than we made a decade ago, why not the government?

By permanently canceling those taxes, we could also do away with the IRS and the Federal Reserve, saving billions. Imagine how efficient corporations could become if they could go back to building great products instead of basing every decision on how it will affect their tax liability.

We could save a trillion or more each year by recalling our troops from the 700 bases they occupy in 130 countries. WWII ended in 1945– maybe it’s time we let the Japanese and Germans to handle their own countries. Koreans too. Ditto the Middle East.

Finally, wean the millions of people who have learned to depend on govt handouts like SS onto he private sector. Eliminate the US Department of Health, and with it, the huge overhead associated with insurance paperwork.

Unfortunately, none of these ideas will be implemented because the plan calls for destruction of our way of life, not its salvation. The decisions are being made far above the head of Obama or any of the other idiots who think they are rich and/or important– they’re not. They are tools being used against us, and when their usefulness has passed, they will be discarded.

Meanwhile, the only people truly “rich” will be those who hold clear title to their homes and land, enough supplies to be independent from the supply grid, and have ample means to defend it.

Since the creation of the Federal Reserve, middle and working-class Americans have been victimized by a boom-and-bust monetary policy. In addition, most Americans have suffered a steadily eroding purchasing power because of the Federal Reserve’s inflationary policies. This represents a real, if hidden, tax imposed on the American people.

From the Great Depression, to the stagflation of the seventies, to the burst of the dotcom bubble…, every economic downturn suffered by the country over the last 80 years can be traced to Federal Reserve policy. The Fed has followed a consistent policy of flooding the economy with easy money, leading to a misallocation of resources and an artificial “boom” followed by a recession or depression when the Fed-created bubble bursts.

One small note on taxation. Think of taxes and then most importantly the “deductions.” These “deductions” are arranged in a simliar fashion as a inverted pyramid. At the very bottom you have the first block, let’s say 1. If you are poor and single you have 1 deduction. But as you move up the pyramid, making more money, you have many more blocks to play with, and more deductions. Virtually every bill passed through Congress, has special tax provisions included. This gives those that have friends in high places more deductions still, deductions that only they can use. So many in the very top 1%, with the help of a corrupt Congressman, and a smart and very expensive tax attorney, they create “shelters” and no longer pay anywhere near the top tax rate. But more likely in the 10-20% category.
I apologize for the poor description of the actual process, but if you do remember the inverted pyramid you will understand the point.
Personally I favor a national sales tax, with absolutely NO deductions for anything. The more you spend the more you pay. If you allow even 1 deduction for anything, the greediest corporations and individuals will be back on Capital Hill and we will be back right where we are now.
To rid ourselves of a corrupt Congress I strongly urge all readers, to support term limits on Congress. No more than 8 years. Same as the President. Get rid of the career politicians (criminals) and their special interest buddies that have sold out you, your family and your country.

Once again Paul Craig Roberts call it as it is. Also I read Jello Biafra’s open letter to Obama, the man is sounding more like he is on our side. Now of course some of his view points are a little left leaning and there is no way you an agree with someone 100% so lets be realistic about it. The thing that annoys me about people like Jello and even Henry Rollins is they are still stuck in the left right paradigm but with obama and the democrat dominated congress voted in they are of not slowing realizing that we are getting screwed from both sides of the if the political spectrum.

Hell, I would not be lost at all. An income tax return done on a postcard, hmmm? As long as no sensitive information was on it like your ssn, go for it. Those are good percentages too, the government would have to learn to live within its means, just like the regular folks. It would be about time.

It is irresponsible to rail into tax rates without mentioning the caveat that NO ONE pays the full percentage. Arguably, the higher the tax rate, the lower the effective percentage of that rate becomes. For example, those in the 30% tax bracket pay an average of less than 30% of that 30% because of loopholes. Those in the 15% bracket have many less deductions and are not afforded (or don’t have $$$$tax consultants) and on average pay 70% of that 15%.

No wonder this country is so screwed up. People believe political corruption means that a handful of senators partake in paedophilic actions and fraternize with interns. People believe “science” is exclusive to what is said on the discovery channel.

Guys, I know it sounds hypocritical, but we need to step it up. Stop immortalizing our oppressors. Stop cringing everytime you hear of Lenin’s masoleum, every time your read an article about government surveillance. They’re human, and you have to realize half of this shit they’re intimidating us with is just failsafes. They don’t need microchips, or satellites, or even the corporate media to control us. We can fight them, because the point of no return is further down the road.

A definition of ‘rich’ would be…
When the assets you currently have on hand can sustain your future lifestyle until you die, i.e., your assets are working instead of you.

I would not consider an income someone earns as the definition of ‘rich’. The reason would be that even a guy making 5 million a year can buy enough junk to be ‘poor’. There are many ‘rich’ but actually ‘poor’ people walking around.

OK…So I just visited a website after Googling the phrase that people are saying won’t post. I found an article that links the phrase with Blackwater that was posted back in Oct 07. What amazed me, besides the information in the article, were the posts found at the bottom. No bickering, no SPAM, no name calling, well thought out arguments that stayed on topic, VERY few swears, correct grammar and spelling, no Bible quotes, and an overall sense that people were their to work together to achieve a common goal. There are a only a few Infowars posters that follow that criteria and I just wanted to thank you. So…thank you.

    54. George Orwell Says:

Don’t be so quick to call another “rich” based off an income amount. You are falling for the “evil rich” envy mentality of the Obamabots. I make $100K per year and I will tell you I am far from rich. To get to that income level I had to borrow and work my way through a masters degree and have to put in 50 to 60 hour weeks. Finding that 100K salary forced me to move into an area with a very high cost of living. $100K doesn’t go far.

My wife and I share a single car (a Kia…not a Lexus), rarely go out to eat (been 3 times this year), and rent an apartment (houses in this area cost $700K for a townhome….can’t afford that). At the end of the month if we have $100 left over to save it is a small miracle. I lived a richer lifestyle on $60K back in GA. To meet that lifestyle here it would take a $250K income. I should have stayed in GA….. Median income here is $106K so I am slightly below the halfway point. I would call that middle class.

What I am saying friend is that it is all relative. It is easy to see someone making more than you and let envy take over. But without knowing all the details, you can’t make that judgement.

      Cheers,
      GO

    56. josh Says:

$250,000 is still middle class. Who cares? $160k after taxes for $250k sound about right, actually. I almost pay that many taxes now and I make a fraction of $250k. At this income level, there’s play both ways with salary. Loosing $5-10k isn’t that big of a deal. Also, as for the NYC estimate, who pre-budgets their sales taxes into their take-home salary? The top 0.5% has business ventures and assets and will be taxed on these things. They will still be paying far higher taxes than anyone making 250k. Just not at a federal payroll level.

    57. Jason Sieckmann Says:

There should be a single tax, on annual income, that the citizen has to pay to the government directly; that is lower than 10%. It doesn’t take a genius to develop the tax code. It doesn’t take a huge military to keep us safe; just nukes. People on welfare intentionally work less hours to make sure they stay on welfare; we should give them a leg up and just tax them less.

    58. stephan Says:

Well what an i say? Of course Obama is the modern age tyrant. It does not matter whether you are a Republican or Democratic, the bottom line is that both sides have been orchestrated in order to bring fourth a solution.
The solution is already organised before a major crisis or attack occurs. This is done in order to bring fourth a reaction by the deceived public, which then need guidance by the UN (funded by David Rockerfella). The solution is to bring fourth a global unity, which meant to sound good for the deceived public, and Obama is going to push the propaganda in order to do so.

We are clearly entering the fourth reich, and the return of NAzi Germany. This time round will be a global tragedy, and i can deffinately see WW3 approaching.
Politics is like a game of chess, becasue it has all been planned out. They need our ignorance to excel in their tyrannical behaviours.

Who do you think sponsors Al-quedea and the Talliban terrorist organisation? Well first of all they are sponsored and funded by the Pakistani ISI. The Pakistani ISI ties along with British intelligence, as well as the CIA. Whom alls serve under the same controlling ellite.

So you really tell me who the real terrorists are?

PEOPLE PLEASE SNAP OUT OFF THE HYPNOTIZING STATE OF MIND! PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE IS ALL AROUND US. It only takes critical thinking people to start making changes, we can all make these changes. Maybe these highly educated corporate slaves will learn to be themselves & stop keeping up appearances to impress other people. Maybe they’ll stop trading time for money & start using leverage. Maybe they’ll stop trying to look rich & start trying to be wealthy. And maybe they’ll stop investing in what the government tells them to invest in! Maybe they’ll read Rich Dad & learn a lot.

Rich Dad always says your home is NOT an asset, 401Ks are the RISKIEST investment, and savers are LOSERS because of inflation. (Incidentally he’s never done better, because he predicted this depression & business in booming since now suddenly everyone wants a financial education!)
