Oklahoma City Bombing Witness Linked to CIA
September 1, 2009
Additional information on the OKC bombing disclosed in Salt Lake City attorney Jesse Trentadue’s lawsuit against the government reveals a role played by the CIA. Trentadue has filed FOIA requests as part of an investigation into the death of his brother while in federal custody.

In response to Trentadue’s FOIA request, the CIA filed what is known as a Vaughn Index, a summary of withheld classified information. The index reveals a CIA connection to events following the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
The Vaughn Index reveals that a potential witness in the Oklahoma City Bombing trial was associated with the CIA. The document describes “contacts between the CIA and the potential witness,” and also contains information on “the location of a covert CIA facility,” according to Intelwire. Mention of the covert CIA facility is mentioned in a cable sent on the day of the OKC bombing.
In addition, the document mentions a CIA cryptogram, CIA intelligence limitations and capabilities, and CIA records searches related to Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols.
The index also mentions U.S. citizens who allegedly attended a PAIC (Popular Arab Islamic Conference) in Sudan. “The annual Sudan-based conference was known as a nexus for Islamic terrorist leaders including Al Qaeda members,” J.M. Berger writes for Intelwire.
Following the OKC attack, multiple reports surfaced reporting Arabs at the scene of the bombing with Timothy McVeigh. This is information is unconfirmed, however, due to the fact surveillance tapes of the bombing were withheld under national security.
[efoods]In the days following the bombing, the FBI shifted blame to the American militia movement. On April 21, lead FBI investigator at Waco, Clinton Van Zandt of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit, told other agents to look for a “white male… with military experience and… a member of some militia group… angry for what happened at Ruby Ridge and Waco,” according to Douglas O. Linder, author of The Oklahoma City Bombing & The Trial of Timothy McVeigh.
In 2004, Intelwire published information claiming an al-Qaeda link to the OKC bombing. “New information, reported for the first time by INTELWIRE, provides a fully documented record of al Qaeda’s efforts to recruit U.S. veterans as terrorist operatives at critical moments in the Oklahoma City timeline,” Berger wrote in December, 2004. Berger claims John Doe 2 may have been Jose Padilla, the Hispanic American supposedly recruited as an al-Qaeda operative in early 1993 and subsequently arrested an accused of plotting a dirty bomb attack.
Al-Qaeda is a documented CIA asset created in collaboration with Pakistan’s ISI.
Evidence uncovered by Jesse Trentadue, however, points to FBI involvement in the bombing, not al-Qaeda or shady Arab terrorists. “During the process of his lawsuit, Trentadue was able to receive documents with names blacked out that show the FBI’s OKC bombing informants were conducting armed robberies with Timothy McVeigh in order to fund the construction of the fertilizer bomb used in the attack on the federal building,” Paul Joseph Watson and Alex Jones wrote on February 22, 2007. “The documents also show that McVeigh called Elohim City two days before the bombing asking for help. Four months before the bombing, an FBI informant told his superiors of the attack plan and said that the Alfred P. Murrah building had been scouted.”
In 2004, a declassified FBI memo obtained by an Oklahoma newspaper revealed the existence of a Southern Poverty Law Center informant connected to the Elohim City operation. “References to an informant working for the SPLC at Elohim City on the eve of the Oklahoma City bombing raises serious questions as to what the SPLC might know about McVeigh’s activities during the final hours before the fuse was lit in Oklahoma City – but which the SPLC has failed to disclose publicly, the newspaper reported.
Additional FOIA documents establish the fact the FBI was working with the SPLC. An unclassified copy of a memorandum marked “From the Director of the FBI” contains several references to an FBI undercover operation at Elohim City before the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building and also mentions the SPLC informant.
“If I told you what we were doing there, I would have to kill you,” Morris Dees of the Southern Poverty Law Center told reporters.
The SPLC has played an instrumental role in attempting to link the militia movement to domestic terrorist activities.
The CIA connection to the OKC trial is not definitive evidence that the agency was involved in the attack. However, it further undermines the official story and also raises questions about CIA domestic operations that are illegal under its charter.
Since at least the 1960s, the CIA has created liaisons with local police departments and trained special intelligence units to carry out “black bag” jobs against official enemies, specifically under Operation CHAOS.
