Old Farmers Almanac: Global cooling may be underway

DUBLIN, N.H. — The Old Farmer’s Almanac is going further out on a limb than usual this year, not only forecasting a cooler winter, but looking ahead decades to suggest we are in for global cooling, not warming.
Based on the same time-honored, complex calculations it uses to predict weather, the Almanac hits the newsstands on Tuesday saying a study of solar activity and corresponding records on ocean temperatures and climate point to a cooler, not warmer, climate, for perhaps the next half century.
“We at the Almanac are among those who believe that sunspot cycles and their effects on oceans correlate with climate changes,” writes meteorologist and climatologist Joseph D’Aleo. “Studying these and other factor suggests that cold, not warm, climate may be our future.”

It remains to be seen, said Editor-in-Chief Jud Hale, whether the human impact on global temperatures will cancel out or override any cooling trend.
“We say that if human beings were not contributing to global warming, it would become real cold in the next 50 years,” Hale said.
For the near future, the Almanac predicts most of the country will be colder than normal in the coming winter, with heavy snow from the Ozarks into southern New England. Snow also is forecast for northern Texas, with a warmer than usual winter in the northern Plains.
Almanac believers will prepare for a hot summer in much of the nation’s midsection, continuing drought conditions there and wild fire conditions in parts of California, with a cooler-than-normal season elsewhere. They’ll also keep the car packed for the 2009 hurricane season, as the Alamanac predicts an active one, especially in Florida.
But Editor Janice Stillman said it’s the winter foreasts that attract the most attention, especially this year, with much higher heating prices.
So, in line with the weather and economy forecasts, the Almanac includes information on using wood for heat: the best wood, how to build a fire in a fireplace, whether to use a wood stove and how to stay warm — all winter — with a single log.
Here’s the secret, popularized in 1777: Throw a log out an upstairs window, dash down the stairs and outside, retrieve the log, dash upstairs, throw the log out the window and so on.
“Do that until you work up a sweat and you’ll be warm all winter,” said Stillman.
Last year, the Almanac correctly predicted “above-normal” snowfall in the Northeast — an understatement — and below-normal snowfall in the mid-Atlantic states.
New Hampshire, home of the Almanac, saw the most snow in 134 years and missed an all-time record by 2.6 inches.
Established in 1792, the Old Farmer’s Almanac is North America’s oldest continuously published periodical. The little yellow magazine still comes with the hole in the corner so it can hang in outhouses.
Boasting 18.5 million readers, this year’s edition contains traditional tips on gardening and astronomical information and tide charts so accurate the government considered banning them during World War II, fearing they would help German spies.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac is not to be confused with the Maine-based Farmer’s Almanac, published “only” since 1818.
The 217th edition also predicts social trends such as sofas that measure body temperature, shopping carts that sound an alarm when filled with too much junk food and closet shelves and hangers that talk to give advice on matching shirts and ties.
“I would really hate that,” Hale said. “What do you mean these don’t match? Of course they match! You kidding me? Pink goes perfectly well with yellow,” he joked.

And it has been my experience that the Farmer’s Almanac has a better hit-to-miss ratio than the weatherman on TV. The Farmer’s Almanac hits about 55-60% of the time, and I don’t trust the weatherman to tell me what it’s going to do tomorrow. We make a mistake in not remembering the common knowledge of the old timers. There is often a lot of truth to some of the old folk tales and sayings.

Yeah right the Arctic is an island for the first time in recorded history. The oceans are cooler because the ice sheets have melted. Drop an ice cube in hot water, when it melt the water is cooler. Put your hand above the hot water. Feel that warm? Now drop an ice cube in there let it melt and put your hand over it again, it’s cool. How do you explain those dead zones in the ocean? The sahara desert growing in size and causing erratic weather patterns? THe massive species die offs for the last thirty years. The amphibians and reptiles the most sensitive are dying at unprecedented rates. Christ even the trees are moving to higher elevation. I have to admit you guys really sound like idiots, denying that their isn’t a problem with the biosphere. Elevationally sensitive trees don’t die off because of a David Rockefeller think tank. Whole niches and habitats don’t dry up and die because everything is honky dory. I’ve done field research myself, and have read alot of other local studies. Air pollution and ocean pollution is heating the planet. Period.
With that said the Farmer’s Almanac is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I use it every year to plant my vegetables and to predict the first frost, even when to plan my fishing trips. Uncanny how accurate they always are. They are predicting a cold winter for the Mid Atlantic. That much you got right. But the rest is junk science propaganda for the energy mafia, to justify their further raping of the earth. Jones isn’t your daddy a oil man? Huh I suspect a little bias?

Here it explicitly states that God creates evil as well as makes peace. Considering that since the invention of man-made religions there has always existed war, it appears that God likes war more than peace.

I wonder why there are so many atheist posting on this web site? Haven’t you anything better to do with your time than criticize someone else’s faith? Hey if there is no God whats your point? Go out and get laid or something. Aren’t there any good books to read? Any decent movies you haven’t seen? The whole world is out there just waiting for you, go for it. The possibilities are endless. What is the point of trying to explain a Christian world-view when it is put aside before a word is read HillBilly?
There are Christians on here who do make a huge mess of the Bible and take it out of context making themselves and everyone else out to be total idiots. I’m sorry about that, but to dismiss us all out of hand with the type of language most of you do is absolutely sick and demeaning. There’s simply no excuse for it.
You want to know why there is suffering in the world, or why God allows it to exist? Because He created all of us with free will and He wanted relationship with us all. That can’t happen with something that has no choice and so we have the option to reject God and the Commandments which most of Western Society’s laws are based upon. This causes chaos and suffering. God didn’t give us Commandments to hem us in but to protect us from pain and suffering.
No one would argue that “Thou Shalt Not Kill.” is something that should be ignored, and they certainly wouldn’t argue that God just said that to keep us from having fun like so many uneducated athiests assume is the sole purpose of religion. No one would argue that treating their parents with respect and love will lead to a bad end in life. No one in their right mind would argue that stealing is a good way to make a living (government and federal reserve leaders being the obvious exception). Unfortunately we’ve come to the point where salivating over someone else’s wife is pretty much the norm, but can anyone argue that it helps to foster a good relationship with the spouse they either do have or will eventually? No. Science has always held independently of religion that monogamy is the healthy way to go. Odd that all the Commandments make sense and seem to follow a design set forth to protect people from the consequences of bad decisions. What I’m getting at is God, or the concept of God as conceived in the Bible is inherently good because of the demonstrated character based on the content of the scriptures – if you actually take the time to study what they are saying. I certaintly can’t say that most of the “Christians” on here have. The main problem is that there are too many people that quote the Bible in the context of only one subject: destruction and death, while totally ignoring the main purpose of it which is reconciliation between mankind and God first, then mankind towards each other. The Jesus haters think Christians are high and mighty bigots. That’s the opposite of the Gospel message. If Jesus lived – all sorts of evidence there from independent historians of the period apart from the Biblical record – and if he was was who he says he was – then saying there is only one way to God isn’t a message of condemnation but of truth and an attempt to help you find your purpose as you were created to live it. Its an act of kindness and the ultimate act of brutality to sit and silently watch anyone live ignorant of that ultimate redemption if in fact heaven and hell are realities.
The message of the Bible is love. Love is described as self-sacrificing – and that to the logical extreme of actually putting yourself in harms way in order to save others. (Read 1st Corinthians chapter 13) That ideal has been lost on this generation and that is why the athiests look at Christians as hypocrits and deride “Jebus.” And just so you know, you’re not mocking us when you do that.
Frankly, it saddens me to see people try to reach out to people who hold so much animosity towards any beliefs in God whatsoever. You want to believe such tripe movies that suggest all Gods are derived from ancient Egyptian paganism, no one will convince you to actually study the evidence to the contrary. And frankly I see both sides as lazy.
Answer me this: Why does God put up with people who mock Him and blame Him for their own mistakes, who constantly look for any excuse to chastize those who love them enough to actually try and tell them about God’s love (regardless of how poorly they communicate)? Does it make you more righteous than I to put me and others down because you simply hate the concept of moral absolutes and accountability? Because if you really look at why you dislike religion I would put all my money on that being the basic thesis of your world view.
All the evidence – once you look at it and don’t simply dismiss the evidence you don’t like – points in the direction that evolution is impossible because biological systems are ireducibly complex – something which Darwin admitted would make his theory absolutely worthless – and yet you cling to it like a religion that is no different from worshipping Horus or Isis and turn around and mock Jesus as some fantasy when Josephus and others of the contemporary time attest to his existence. Luke is considered by unbiased scholars regardless of religious affiliation to be one of the foremost historical biographers in the history of the world and you mock him like some fool who just dropped acid and had a bad trip.
I have no respect for either the Bible thumpers who can’t seem to get the concept of “Speaking the truth in Love” or the athiets who have no concept of intellectual honesty.

As one who went to a Christian school my whole life and church 3 times a week until I was 18, I very much value (and am secretly proud of) my knowledge of the Bible.
I liked just about all of what you said until your bit about evolution. Sure, Darwin knew his “theory” was vulnerable and hard to defend. Darwin also admitted before he died that there is no real evidence to support any of it. He also admitted that he believed in God.
For millennia, it was the norm for Christianity (and other religions) to fight against science, BECAUSE IT REMOVES THE NEED FOR FAITH. Belief based on FACT rather than feeling.
But evolution is not impossible. It is real. You have simply been made to understand that word itself in the Christian manner.

Think about your own evolution. If all peoples of the Earth came from the family of Noah (as the Christian establishment would have you believe) then how do we end up with peoples of different colors, appearance, and cultures? That would be EVOLUTION.

It sure looks like the posting spaces on this site are under intense spiritual attack and delusion. You get the occasional person who says enough already, stay on topic, and take the spiritual discussions elsewhere. Then you see what I think are the intentionally deluded who post more Luciferian or Atheist material followed by many people who selectively quote the Bible out of context.
Maybe it is a reflection of the times we are in. Funny though, when I go to Raw Story and look up comments on a specific story, I hardly ever see any of this. The last post is curious. Person says

I am a man of peace, at peace inside and with the world. If people want todestroy themselves, well there is nothing I can do about that. I can only work on survival: Me, my wife and my dogs. I listen to Alex Jones (and others) and prepare as best I can. I talk to people some, but mostly I keep my mouth shut. I cannot prevent a single person from destroying themselves, let alone 6 billion. I’m just not that big. I reach out and touch those close to me, any who will listen. If the door is closed, I leave them be.
But, hey, I’m with you in one aspect. I totally disagree with people who hand-pick wrathful scripture and paste it carte blanche all over anonymous message boards. It is the worst way to witness the Good News. Compassion, peace, goodwill, peace of mind – these are things that are attractive. Keep in mind, you have one book to back you up. Science has millions of books and a little thing called evidence. Physical tangible proof that your wrong. The bible has no physical tangible proof of anything.
The flood was no big deal, spring floods hit that area constantly and there’s tons of stories of different people having taken a boat to survive it (not just Noah). The ark story is just laughable (it’s highly doubtful that not only could he not fit all the animals on the boat, but he’d have to carefully and meticulously place them everywhere throughout the world. Evolution, fossils, carbon dating, the dinosaurs and DNA have grossly disproven Genesis (try proving evolution wrong for being just a theory. Scientific progress doesn’t come from miracles.
The best difference between a scientist and a christian? A scientist is happy when their proven wrong, because that means he’s come closer to the truth. Christians just get angry and defensive.

As of 12-21-2012 the Earth & our whole solar system will be entering the Galactic rift. It is a center point in our Galaxy. It loaded with cosmic dust, asteroids, planetary bodies, etc. Gravity is very strong there and as we approach it, the force of the Rift pull on our Solar system, which in turn causes planets to heat up. The heat may be because the planets inner lava spinning faster due outer gravity forces tugging on it. It is a fact that most of our planets that we can detect the conditions of, are all going through a global warming process, with man and pollution on them.
As we approach it, in comparison: it is like slowly moving your finger towards a lite candle. The heat gets hotter the closer you get to touching the flame.
Out solar system passes through the Galactic Rift ever 26,000 years. Polar flips take place when this happens, and the evidence is over whelming. When lava rises to the surface in places like the North pole, the slowly hardens/freezes, it takes the magnetic alignment of the pole at that time. If is a North pole, it has a north pole alignment, if it is a south pole, it takes a south pole alignment.
Many rock hills, mountains and piles of rock have been checked by scientist in the Northern regions to find out that many have a south pole alignment, and that when they were formed, the poles were southern. This trade off of poles happens every 26,000 years. At the point when we are half way from the Rift, or half way to the Rift, the middle, Earths Ice Ages begins to end. As we start moving towards the Rift, warming starts again. When we pass through it, Colling starts again.

Sunray, I agree about Christians practicing what they preach. What most people fail to understand is that “saying” you’re “Christian” is a meaningless practice. Simply spouting scripture does not make one reborn. Those who truly reflect the Spirit of God are few. Very few.
Keep in mind Science has proclaimed the following things:

There are millions of examples. Yes, yes, science is “self correcting,” but so is the liar. Get caught in a lie? Change your story! And therein lies the Bible’s strength. It has never changed, not in thousands of years.

Someone got ripped off? My guess there was a man or two involved. Somebody put poison in your drinking water? Probably a well-meaning scientist or politician. Got raped in prison? Was it the broomstick? Naw, a man.

Science is self correcting not because it lies, but because new evidence is always coming out. Science takes pride in the fact that it doesn’t have all the answers. Science, such as lif, is ever changing.
Most of those huge errors your talking about came before alot of the modern technology we have today.
There’s nothing random about evolution. It’s called natural selection. It makes 10x more sense than any god story I’ve heard.

I believe this way more then gore. The planet has been around for millions of years and has had multiple ice ages. Whats our 40 years of computer weather data compared to millions of years of history. Global weather patterns are part of natural cycles. Granted we should start looking into alternative fuels for less dependency on foreign oil but that has nothing to do with global warming. Also we still don’t utilize the best power in existence so far, Nuclear. Japan uses only nuclear power and hasn’t had any incident. You would think if any culture should be scared of nuclear energy it would be the Japanese but they are not.

Then 2nd Peter 3:9 The lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Ask yourself, where are you going when you die? You better be sure, cause it will be for a long time. Evolution says you die, and nothing happens.
