Where has benevolence, charity, long-suffering, virtue, and the love of freedom gone? Has the love of idle pursuits replaced the love of true wisdom guided by an endless search for universal truth?

| Because of the Olympics, our thoughts are occupied by “weighty” matters like who will win the Ice Dancing gold medal or Short Track speed skating. | |
Will it really matter to our children if Kurt Warner, who recently retired from the NFL, will end up in the NFL Hall of Fame? Does it matter who won the Heisman trophy? Will our idols really be determined by a glorified talent show, American Idol?
So much of our modern society has been built up and maintained by common riff-raff. Decadence and deceit hold the day.
Just look at the example of the “son of a coal-miner” John Edwards. It was recently revealed how Senator Edwards possibly used donations from campaign supporters during his latest run for President of the United States to hide an affair with his videographer. All of his efforts to hide the affair were undertaken so the once “father of the year” award winner would not miss his opportunity at becoming the leader of the free world.
Too many of us are simply willing to just turn and look away when we are faced with such incompetence and blatant corruption. Just as many of us are unwilling to support those that oppose such individuals and who are willing to risk their reputations in the support of truth.
Because of the Olympics, the thoughts of some in our nation and the world are now occupied by “weighty” matters like who will win the Ice Dancing gold medal or who will win in Short Track speed skating. While the number of individuals that stand to gain from the fame and fortune derived from an Olympic success are minuscule, those that seek the enslavement and domination of the world go relatively unnoticed. These “silent assassins” as Nigel Farage recently called them in the European Parliament are purposely obscure figures. When the slovenly public, who have become too preoccupied with carnal endeavors, finally learn their names it will be too late. These seemingly unassuming bureaucrats will not win any gold medals for their technical and artistic ice dancing displays, but what they “win” will have far more permanent effects on our lives.
Against the backdrop of the Olympics, these individuals seek to take advantage of the current continuing economic crisis to subvert national sovereignty and replace national independence with a global ruling class who will “condescend” to govern our individual lives. Just within the last few months the citizens of Greece have discovered what it means to be a member of the grand European community. They will find that they will have become inhabitants of new European colonial “protectorate”. The resultant loans and reparations imposed on their country, which their all too willing politicians and oblivious public will readily accept, will doom their country to stagnation and decay.
The best thing that the people of Greece could do right now is to reject the European Union and adopt the economic policies of the “Austrian” school of economics exemplified in the writings of Ludwig Von Mises and F.A. Hayek. Will this move cause a lot of temporary pain? Of course it will. The withdrawal effects will be severe but hopefully relatively short lived.
What is the alternative?
If they determine to procrastinate their day of reckoning by deciding to accept billions in bailouts and endeavor to continue their reckless government and welfare spending they will become ever more dependent on their European counterparts. They will lose the will and power to resist any dictate from Brussels. In the end, Greece will follow the road of so many third-world countries before it. They will be forced to submit to whatever economic or political dictates their faceless masters determine as reasonable compensation for the continuance of loans. Whatever is left of their resources and industry will be pilfered. More importantly, whatever is left of their yearning for freedom will have been vanquished.
In the United States, we are heading down the same road. We are permitting ourselves to become entranced by filthy lucre that has been obtained by irrational spending and debt financing. Like the people of Greece, we have been seduced by the prospect of obtaining endless goods without having to pay for them or work for them. We are on the verge of permitting Washington bureaucrats to impose trillions in new debt obligations via the climate change and healthcare legislation. These obligations will benefit a tiny minority of the public while enriching and empowering an even more select group of administrators and government sponsored economic interests. The majority of Americans will be beaten down under the weight of caring for an ever expanding group of helpless and dependent government protectorates, namely, welfare recipients.
If we are unable to take the necessary steps to reverse the course by applying the same free market reforms that are so dearly needed in Greece, then our course will be sure. We will be forced to submit to a ‘benevolent’ supranational body in order that we might continue our co-dependence on government largesse. This submission will end the grand American experiment and suppress the spirit of 1776 into oblivion.
While some have already resigned themselves to the “inevitability” of government dominance, others are making strident efforts to reverse the course. Many of these individuals are active on the state and local level. A few, like Nigel Farage of the European Parliament, are mustering the courage to face down the “silent assassins” and expose them and their agenda to the whole of humanity. It is now up to us to determine their success or failure and to become active ourselves in the cause of freedom.
