Ontario residents won’t be able to sell their houses or condos without first getting a home energy audit – which now costs about $300 – under the proposed new Green Energy Act.
That’s one of several measures in the legislation unveiled by Energy Minister George Smitherman to boost incentives for electricity conservation and encourage renewable sources of energy.
The legislation was applauded by environmentalists as ambitious, although the David Suzuki Foundation says its green intent is undermined by government plans to build a new nuclear power plant at Darlington.
But critics fear the energy audits and Smitherman’s estimated 1 per cent rise in household electricity bills as a result of the law will pinch pocketbooks as the recession deepens.
“It’ll be used to beat down the seller of a home,” Progressive Conservative MPP and energy critic John Yakabuski warned of the audit, which would put detailed information on a home’s energy efficiency into the hands of buyers.
Toronto homeowners are already concerned about the impact the city’s new land transfer tax – in addition to the provincial one – is having on sales and prices. Both taxes add up to thousands of dollars even on cheaper houses.

This makes me wonder, can they STOP you from selling your home privately? For instance, if I had a home in Ontario and REFUSED to pay this fee, what can they do about it? Bitch and cry?
Also, I agree with the comments on the posted website in that builders should be FORCED to comply with this law in all new/renos. Why should I buy a new home, only to have to make the changes.
Plus, why wouldn’t they just tie this into home inspections which occurs before a buyer signs the dotted line… The inspector is already there. What does it take to look at your furnace and put a check mark?

Money grab, that’s all it is. Well also to control more of your life.
For those who don’t know, Ontario has a Liberal government, which is sort of similar to the Democrats in the United States – they are for more interference in peoples’ lives and higher taxes and fees.

Carbon TAX!

They want people to get used to this kind of thing. Today it is for “green” tomorrow you will be obligated to house immigrants in your house for a sum of money !!!

“They”-the new world order, are trying to systematically un-ravel the world economies & thus take over nations without firing a shot. As a result they are “backdooring” these take overs so that the general public, most of whom are still asleep, will not see them coming, until it’s too late! While we who have woken up, have a duty & responsibility to be prepared( food, water, gold, silver, guns, ammo etc..), we need to “fight fire with fire”. The new world order knows if they can control the worlds’ economies & financial structures they’re hitting us where it hurts most.If we stop paying them, THEY GO BROKE!!If we STOP PLAYING THEIR GAME by creating a FINANCIAL REVOLT; i.e., stop paying income tax, property taxes if it is inevitable that many if not most will be losing our homes, why not stop paying mortgages? What will they do…kick us out of our homes? I’ve heard currently, it takes close to 2 years to complete the foreclosure process because of “system overload”. Imagine how long it would take if MILLIONS MORE hit the system at one time!! If we can unite in our participation of the freezing up of THEIR FINANCES, this would put a HUGE strain on their system! We need to come together! UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL! BEAT THEM AT THEIR OWN GAME!!

Take off the tinfoil hats for a few minutes.
Lots of houses can benefit from this type of work no matter what you political stripe, whether you believe in the NWO or global warming.
I bought a big old house and did alot of this work myself. I cut the heating bills by $5000 a year!
I now have the warmest old house for miles.
Many of the problems were very simple and could be fixed with small investments. $40 worth of $4 a tube draft-stop caulking made an incredible difference. I think my entire budget for the improvements, including new insulation, was $5000, spent over 3 years.
Every time I found a large, obvious problem (like no no insulation or warm air leaking into a roof space) I asked myself “why didn’t the previous owner fix this?”
I find leaky toilet seals and ask myself “why didn’t the previous owner fix this?” A $6 seal saves at least $60 per year.
The answer is many people are stupid, lazy, or don’t know anything about houses.
An energy audit helps address this problem, it shows new owners the best way to upgrade their houses.
In my case it makes my house easier to sell and more valuble. I would pass the audit with flying colors and show I deserved a better price because the house was cheaper to heat.
I theory, I could resist the NWO better because I better survive the economic crisis with lower heating bills. I last longer and stay warmer when they cut the power off.
I drive down my road and see houses in -40 with no snow on the roof.
My farmer common sense says how stupid can people be? Do they want to throw away their money every year?
An energy audit helps address this problem. $300 pays for itself very quickly, most likely in the first winter. Lots of people get them done without governmnet encouragment, just for the annual savings in heating bills.
It’s very little money compared to the price of the house or even one year of Ontario heating bills.

Yeah, I’m with you calm reason. Since it’s too late to hold builders and developers accountable, people should be forced to pay a penalty for being lazy. That may be the only thing that gets some people conserving-which is by far more efficient than ANY green technology.
There are way bigger fish to fry, such as the SPP and Codex Alimentarius.

I never did like paying my mortgage or taxes anyway… We need to set up a centralized site and make it known for stuff like this to get more people in otherwise its a waste to talk about what should be done and having no action.
I am ready to fight.

February 25th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
when you sell a home here in UK (say it “uck”) you have to ‘pay for’ a Home Information Pack – yet more hidden fascist taxation on the cost of living.
Why do you need a HIP?
A HIP is a set of documents that provides the buyer with key information on the property and must be provided by the seller or the seller’s agent. It is a legal requirement to have a HIP and you can’t market your property without one.
The HIP lets buyers see important information about the property at the start of the process, free of charge. This means there is less chance of buyers becoming aware of any surprises at the end of the process. The HIP can help reduce delays and extra expense to the buyer and seller.

Not to get ‘Off Topic’ here, but let’s have a Contest. Only one Rule, in order to Play,ok, If you know my country by my previous posts, dont play.
I heat my house with an outside coal furnace. The hot glycol is pumped into the house and shop to heat the Buildings.
