An Oregon police chief has retired after a colleague claimed he replied to an accusation of racism by dancing around the room, beating his chest and making animal noises in a monkey impersonation.

Former Clatskanie Police Chief Marvin Hoover was placed on paid administrative leave in early August due to the incident but on Friday it was announced he will step down from the force.


In complaint papers, officers allege he put on the racist display when they attempted to consult him on the arrest of black woman who was threatening to file a discrimination lawsuit.

Clatskanie Police Officer D. Alex Stone is the cop who first highlighted the racist remarks in a complaint to the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.
