Paul: Bill to tax bonuses an ‘outrage’ and unconstitutional

Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) yet again went against the grain in Congress when he stood up in the House and argued against a proposal that would tax 90 percent of AIG executive bonuses, saying that it was a “disgrace,” a “distraction” and an “outrage” that undermined the Constitution.
“I rise in opposition to this rule and the bill because of the problem — because of the lack of need for this and the disgrace that this has brought upon us,” Paul said. “Yesterday, for instance, the Federal Reserve met and they came out and they announced that they would create new money to the tune of $1.25 trillion.”
Paul, a dark horse Republican candidate for president in 2008 who still enjoys considerable popularity with a base of hardcore supporters, noted that the value of the dollar went down significantly after that announcement by the Fed.
“Today…on emergency legislation, we’re going to deal with $165 million of bonuses, which obviously shouldn’t have never been given, but who’s responsible for this?” Paul said. “It’s the Congress and the president who signed this [$787 billion stimulus bill that allowed the bonuses to go forward]. So this is a distraction, this is an outrage.”

“So everybody can go home that voted for this bill, say, ‘Look, I’m clamping [down] on this $165 million but I don’t care about the previous $5 trillion the Fed created and the $1.25 trillion they created yesterday,’” he said. “Think of the loss of purchasing power in less than 24 hours.”
Paul urged his House members to support his bill, H.R. 1207, which would change the way the Federal Reserve is audited.
“Let’s quit appropriating funds in an unconstitutional manner. Let’s quit bankrupting this country,” Paul said. “The Fed is not even required to answer any questions. So it’s about time we have an open book about the Federal Reserve and solve some of these problems.”
House passes tax bill Thursday afternoon
Despite the protestations of Paul and a few others, the House voted overwhelmingly to pass the bonus tax legislation Thursday afternoon.
Roll Call reports the vote was 328-93 to impose a 90 percent tax on employee bonuses at companies that received federal bailout funds.
“While the vote was bipartisan, the GOP was split on the bill, with Minority Leader John Boehner (Ohio) voting against it and Minority Whip Eric Cantor (Va.) voting in favor of it,” reported Roll Call.
Correction: This article has been updated to correct a misstatement about which bill the amendment that excluded executive bonuses agreed to before February was attached to. An earlier version stated that it was the March omnibus spending bill.

We are SO FORTUNATE to have him representing us! His voting record speaks for itself. He has never voted for anything un-Constitutional. I f I understand it correctly…income taxes, as from these bonuses, actually go to the IMF to cover the interest on the debt. Is that correct? So neither the people of this union nor congress would ever see a cent of it anyway. I guess since the IMF employs the secretary of the US treasury, someone in the illegitimate government would see some benefit from it.

This article says the bill passed to tax 90%.
Supposedly after the vote, close to 100 votes changed back to “Nay”.
This bill was NOT passed.
I agree with Ron Paul this bill is a distraction and that taxing is a Fed trick.
So I am now understanding his POV.
But we should take all the money we can get back from them. Maybe taxing them is wrong since fed taxes are not legal in first place and if we tax them 90% it is illegal.
But any other method to get money back to taxpayer should not be rejected.

I completely disagree with the bonuses, but this is ridiculous. Its absolutely unconstitutional.
This is also quite dangerous, because it sets the precedent that government can void private contracts at any time and pass retroactive, ex post facto laws whenever they want.
I don’t think most of them know what impact this could have on future events and circumstances.
But then again, they’re just trying to keep the pressure off of themselves for their own gigantic fuck-up. They’re the ones ultimately to blame, not AIG.

Now it’s safe for people like CIA NOC Radio talk show host, JFK assassination author (apologist) Thom Hartman over at “AIR AMERICA” to openly espouse Ron Pauls idea that the Fed Reserve is bad and that it’s a scam. Prior to the financial collapse, Thom referred to Ron Paul as and extremist who would be really bad for our country. Even Thoms friends and family have joked about Thoms employment for the CIA and NSA which he openly admits.
He had some contracts with them at one point. He helped them with marketing (spin) and openly admits that. He’s a neuro-linguistic programming expert as well. The man is a master of the art of BS and is an admitted member of the SDS that has links to the Weathermen and SDL which are/were likely run by the FBI.
So, expect a lot of mainstream media people to start calling for the end of the Fed with a call for the creation of a World Super Fed. This is the financial Pearl Harbor that they needed, planned and created.

I wouldn’t bite the hands that sustain the system you’ve grown accustomed to using. Your eyes may be opening, but don’t undervalue the ones that have been sustaining the lies upon lies upon lies upon lies. It’s a daunting act to sustain lies for generations upon generations. What I would do is to understand what you are perceiving the enemy to be. Once you do, you will see yourself standing in front of YOU. The formula is perfect, but most don’t know what order to mix the ingredients. Every element in the formula is critical and the order is crucial. The ingredients to these agreements are real, but the taxpayers response to them are not healthy and would be based on their misperceptions triggered by insideous mindtricks.
Listen people. The bankers would love to acquire the abandoned collateral. It’s truly up to you. Eventually these obligations will be over. My guess is that it will be sooner than later.

Think about it folks. They pay taxes on money that they take from us. Who do you think is getting the tax money that there going to pay. They are. Make this check payable to the FEDARAL RESERVE. They still end up with the money. WHAT THE f@#$. Does that sound right to you. If not then being that your already on the computer go and send you congress men and rep’s a letter telling them that you want your damn money back.
With all the money that congress is handing out each and every American would get well over $100,000. That’s kids included. So if you have a family of three. You would get over $300,000.
THATS WHY I CALL THIS A HISEST.

I know how to fix the problem. If you want to give your guy a 1 million dollar bonus, just really give him a 10 million dollar bonus, and then after taxes, he’ll still get his mill ! LOL Im sure some lawyer somewhere will figure out a way around this. Surely this bill is just for show. I hope im wrong but…

The federal reserve only provides a service. I wouldn’t necessarily blame them. If it wasn’t for the federal reserve, we would not be the country we are today. Blame who you want or blame the agreement. I know the truth. Do you blame your mortgage company for supplying loans or your utility company for providing you service? Apparently people want something for nothing. You think taxes pay the bills, when in fact they can’t. I feel for the one’s that don’t study up on the truth behind this fiasco. I really do.

This is the most Asnine Bill ive ever heard of! So if even an executive who does great, and makes changes to the company, and helps it to make profit, and to turn thinks around is awarded a 10,000 dollar bonus, he now gets to pay Uncle Same 9000 of it !
This may do nothing more than steer away the top talent at all of these Govt bailed out institutions!
And when all the new Grads come in with no experience, and sweep up the job and these companies fail, and the Govt doesnt get back there money, then its really gunna hit the fan. But maybe thats what theyre trying to do. MAKE them Fail ! Then the taxpayers will really be screwed when the Chinese come to collect.
Am I on to something here, or am i just a little peeved and need to take a breather lul.

The United States of America has, on a per capita basis, the biggest bunch of dumb fucks to ever occupy any one country at any one time. What makes this statistical anomaly even more amazing is that it has been around for over two hundred years! A totally clueless population with an arrogance matched only by its own ignorance. I don’t care what their contracts state! Their business, in essence, FAILED! AIG certainly wasn’t throwing a hissey bitch-fit when the taxpayers came to their rescue! The government got involved and the taxpayers got screwed! I think their contracts should be “null and void” in regards to their bonuses, because I’m certain there was no clause in the contracts stating that “in the event of a taxpayers’ bailout as the result of massive retardation and incompetence on the part of AIG executives, the massively retarded and incompetent AIG execs would still get their bonuses.” They ran their company into the ground! While I agree with Ron Paul insofar as it being unconstitutional for the goverment to interfere with these bonuses, sadly the government IS involved. AIG can’t have their cake and eat it, too! Their business (and jobs) were spared, now they have to pay up. It’s that simple.

Does anyone remember Hillary saying she was going to “take the profits of oil company’s” Guess she got her way, just with another group of company’s. Who’s next? Farms? Grocery stores? You and me? The power to “tax away” your money is a bad thing on soooooo many levels, no matter what the reason for doing it. The precedent is dangerous in a precedent ruled judiciary system. Remember everyone, they consider your earnings income, just like the bonuses….. even though it is really personal property…. hmmmm, maybe next is a personal property tax to discourage barter and trade….. This is baaaaad news folks….

All that needs to be done is to file a lawsuit that states that nothing of value was provided by the bonus takers in return for their bonuses. The fundamental rule of contracts is that there must always be a trade of something of value by the contracting parties. The contracts should therefore be null and void.
