Pelosi Backs Senate Amendment to Censor Talk Radio

Over the last week, the corporate media has subjected us to an incessant propaganda salvo directed against the Oxycotton-addled talk radio host Rush Limbaugh. Obviously, Limbaugh is an easy target, especially for Democrats brainwashed by the false left-right paradigm. However, the point of the orchestrated attack against Limbaugh is not the alleged unfairness of “conservative” talk radio or even Limbaugh’s rhetoric critical of Barack Obama, but rather it is a coordinated attack designed to set the stage for the “regulation” of free speech.

“Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told CNSNews.com on Thursday that she supports an amendment to a Senate bill that would force the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to ‘take actions to encourage and promote diversity in communication media ownership and to ensure that broadcast station licenses are used in the public interest.’”
On Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told CNSNews she supports an amendment to a Senate bill that would force the Federal Communications Commission to “take actions to encourage and promote diversity in communication media ownership and to ensure that broadcast station licenses are used in the public interest.”
House Conference Chairman Mike Pence, who is a former radio broadcaster, told CNSNews the amendment is a Trojan horse designed to restore the Fairness Doctrine, an FCC regulation dumped in 1987 that forced broadcasters to grant equal time to opposing points of view.
“Its clear to me that Democrats, having failed in their frontal assault on talk radio in America through the Fairness Doctrine, are now shifting strategy to a form of regulation that is essentially the Fairness Doctrine by stealth,” said Pence. The Senate amendment was attached to a bill granting Washington, D.C., a vote in the House of Representatives by Senate Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin. It was passed last Thursday in a vote along party lines.
“I support Mr. Durbin in most things,” averred Pelosi. “Diversity in media ownership is very, very, important.”
In response to the attachment of the “Durbin amendment,” Sen. Jim DeMint inserted an amendment banning the Fairness Doctrine to the same bill. It passed by a vote of 87-11 and will go to the House. Minority Leader John Boehner said he believes Republicans may be able to raise the votes to stop it.

Obama’s policy position reflects that of his transition leader John Podesta. Podesta’s Center for American Progress, described as a “liberal think-tank,” released a policy paper in 2007 entitled The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio. “Thanks in part to funding from benefactors such as billionaire George Soros, the Center for American Progress has become in just five years an intellectual wellspring for Democratic policy proposals, including many that are shaping the agenda of the new Obama administration,” writes Edwin Chen for Bloomberg. Apparently, Obama and his adopted “progressive” policy proposals are at odds with the First Amendment.
Of course, Rush Limbaugh’s EIB, Clear Channel, and Fox News will either pay to play or will hire a handful of token “progressives” in order to get around the new Fairness Doctrine, that is if it becomes law and the Supreme Court allows it to stand.
If the bill becomes law and stands, it will be the small guys forced out of business, not the large communications and entertainment corporations. But then it is the small guys posing a real threat to the establishment, not Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, or Michael “Savage” Weiner, who represent the fake opposition.

It is implying free speech will be challenged. The entire first ammendment is based on the concept of saying what you want, when you want and to whom you want regardless of the existance of an opposing view point. Now incase it didn’t occur to you, the fairness doctrine requires media outlets to deceminate the opposing viewpoint. If I want to do something that doesn’t encroach on someone elses right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and the government makes me do something else in order to exercise that right, then I am not free as defined by the constitution of the United States now, am I? This is really a simple matter and you for some reason do not get it. Somehow you are fooled into the appreciation of bad law. We can all appreciate laws that protect our freedoms under the constitution. To support laws that strangle that freedom is irresponsible to ones self and to society as a whole. I’m sorry to hear that you were censored on this site, that is a shame….. You seem to be upset about it…. why? You are here making a call for censorship of anyone that wants to make a point in the absence of opposition…. Ironic, isn’t it?

The facts have to take a back seat, even though the Fairness Doctrine actually undoes the existing censorship, ie., that imposed by MONOPOLY CAPITALISM. Even Alex has enough sense and enough class to decry monopoly capitalism (which is the natural end result of UNREGULATED capitalism).
You see, censorship is only bad if GOVERNMENT does it. If the “free” (snicker-snicker) market censors political speech, well, “that means — it is NOT illegal”, to paraphrase Nixon. And no bleeding heart populists better try to mess with the MONOPOLY!

sir, apparently you are not a programmer. If you were you would understand that the software that you are using to post these replies is an off the shelf package that Alex and god-knows-how many other sites use (pretty nice too; definitely above average. I really like it and appreciate their having installed it — probably expensive but, hey, I subscribe!) AND that obviously the programmer, rightly, recognized that there needs to be a limit to the depth of Parent/Child window depth, because each successive child window has to be smaller and narrower. If it were allowed to go on infinitely, #1, they would become too narrow, and more importantly, #2, the amount of resources the program uses (each iteration is an instance of a class which loops back on itself, and has to allocate memory for the whole class, allocation being a tricky task in a case like this because it has to operate on a variety of platforms.
Just use the last available “Reply” button and don’t worry about it. Nobody is censoring you, in this case, although I’ve seen it happen. But not in this thread.

On looking again, I see that your Jim Jones reference wasn’t to me but to the site and the article, and the essentially lockstep response from the peanut gallery. I apologize for my misdirection. Maybe you’re not so far off as I thought!
But about the REPLY button, it’s really just a compromise in the software, and a good one I think, for what it provides. We can still specify our comments to the intended recipient by addressing his/her timestamp as I have done above, removing the ambiguity.
As to the wisdom of setting this relatively shallow Parent-window/Child-window maximum depth, compare this method with Huffington Post. A thread this size over there would be broken up over 8 – 10 pages, each one you have to load separately, and do your Ctrl-F search. It’s a royal pain. But, you have essentially unlimited depth of stacks.
This is way better. I can load the page once, put my username in the field at the foot of the page, double click it to select the string, hit Ctrl-F, which in Firefox automatically loads the selection, and then just click “Previous” to jump to each of my posts in the thread from the bottom up, with each scrolled to the top of the screen (instead of the bottom if I searched “Next”, ie., down.)
This commenting software is far superior to HuffPo’s for ease of use, quickness, never crashes — five stars, Alex! It is very classy, as are all of the new site features (sites — PrisonPlanet too) AND the snazzy new studio looks totally awesome — just superb.
Too bad the spelling, grammar, logical processing, and general workmanly scholarship in the posts is so sub-basement. The cultural and political one-sidedness could be really not much of an issue if only communication in English were possible.

You people have no clue about the “Fairness Doctrine” you are being brainwashed by those who oppose it. What the “Fairness Doctrine” suggests is more equal time to opposing views on OUR PUBLIC AIRWAVES.
There is nothing wrong with the citizens of our country being able to hear both sides of a political view on AM radio stations instead of only being able to hear one side which at times gives a distorted view or bald face lies to further their propaganda.
My guess is that is AM radio was dominated by progressive radio shows those on the right like Rush Limbaugh would be all for the “Fairness Doctrine”
As it sits now AM radio is full of radio hosts who promote “big business”, hate and the lies to continue the propaganda of the right wing extremists in the republican party and to also push the agenda of big business in our country over we the people/the American worker.

You argue that the doctrine would not impede members of the media’s ability to say what they want, but it does in fact force outlets to provide another viewpoint. It would be similar to you being told you can say what you believe, as long as you say what I believe too. I’m begining to see what’s going on here as I read through alot of these posts though. Since your views aren’t on AM radio, you are calling on the government to “level the playing field.” It is this selfish view point that has allowed the government to fool you into handing over your god given rights in return for the fulfillment of your own desires. Wake up! If you think the fairness doctrine is either the beginning or the end of the control the government wants to have over the citizens of this country, you are in for a rude awakening.

Firefox still has Google Search embedded into it. I use Firefox, but made MSN my home page and do my searches through them. Google stores all searches indefinitely and i wouldn’t be surprised that they share that information with the government either now or in the future.
Your right in not trusting Google. I probably shouldn’t trust any of em, but from what i understand MSN doesn’t store info forever like Google.

If it does become law, I wonder if they will hold themselves to that standard as well. Something like this could slow the upstart of more progressive broadcasts if they as well are required to provide an opposing viewpoint. Besides, lets think about this. All Alex has to do is have me on his show everyday playing devils advocate. He can make a point, I’ll chime in with a counterpoint (even though we agree…. SHHHH). actually since GCN is a licensed sevice they will be able to take it off the air further Dems are pushing to bring the internet under fcc control as well under the guise that it is a broadcast meduim as well and websites will have to be licensed as well and come under the same doctrine. os they would be able to take it out even though it would be a subscription service. The dems entirely plan to cease contol of the internet since the bilderbergers called tha patriot movement it’s gravest threat and the internet the meduim upon which it thrives.
I would say by 2010 plan on not having internet sites Like AJ etc.

Not really the subject of the Thread, but all men are imperfect beings, and i cant see the church that was built on St. Peter, who was ordained by the Lord, as being a vessel of Satan, (”Matthew chapter 16, verses 17-19″). To continue this off-topic thread….
Christ’s church (ie – the body of Christ) was to be built upon Peter. Our Lord never mentioned the word or term Catholic. So when you say “I can’t see the church that was built on St. Peter… as being a vessel of Satan.”, you incorrectly associate the Catholic Church with the original foundation and intent of the Christ’s Church. Once the “Catholic” church became THE church, all bets were off… Man (and Satan) had spoiled the soup. It might be safe to say that Our Lord didn’t have the Holy Roman Catholic Church in mind when he set his foundation upon Peter…

I am for this amendment to diversify talk radio, hear me out. If they put a person on Alex’s show from the opposite perspective, it would have to be someone who is for global government, for a new world order, and believes in global warming, believes in the official story of 9/11, etc. And this would further illustrate how broke the other side really is. Alex would humiliate him or her on a daily basis, which would prove our points even more forcefully. I’m speaking tongue and check but i am just trying to say that you can use their attempts to silence as a benefit.

He has earned a place among such great scholars as Chossudovsky, Engdahl, William Pepper, such unstoppable investigators as Palast and Madsen, Rivero and Griffin and Marrs (both of them!)
And he has won a notable hill all his own, in the unprecedented broad sweep of his historical vision.

If I turn on a station that plays Rap and I dont’t like that kind of music do I have the right to have them play an equal amount of Classical music? Or do I do the intelligent thing by changing the station without denying the rights of others?

I suggest you give Pelosi a rain of phone calls, emails, letters, faxs and jam her lines of communication. Obviously she has other interests in mind and not the American people. The more they PUSH people to the brink, dont they realize People will PUSH back. It’s a matter what is America’s breaking point. I enjoyed reading your post. I think we probably agree on the fundamental issues here, probably much more so than it seems. I just want to throw out there that I do not consider myself on who is on the right. I am a constitutionalist and I view all matters such as this with the constitution in mind. I do not agree that business should be allowed to grow unregulated into these mega corporations. This of course plays into the fact that we now have a government that dubs business “to big to fail.” If allowed to fail these businesses become the ultimate example of how business is regulated in a true free market system, but that of course is another discussion all together. I still do not and will not agree with the principals involved in the government stepping in and requiring two points of view though. Let’s face it, talk radio only represents a small portion of the available media when you consider printed media, television and of course the internet. What we are talking about here is small potatoes when you step back and look at the whole picture, but that’s how we loose our liberties, one small potatoe at a time. It’s been a pleasure and I certainly look forward to hashing out more issues with you in the future.

Wolves cleanse the herd, unless they are too many, and devour it. This is apparently what happened when mankind appeared in North America. Within what is the blink of an eye in geological terms, they devoured all the megafauna on the continent.
(Did you mean “principles”, ie., fundamental concepts, or “principals”, key players? I assume the former.) I will not defend the Fairness Doctrine as the perfect solution, but will you allow that the oligopoly of media that has developed is a dreadful threat to liberty? Isn’t that what you’re afraid of — that getting even worse?
I think you are understating the effect of Limbaugh over the course of his career by a large measure. I really believe the political transformation that he generated was dramatically effective in the birth of that “Contract with America” revolution, that Air America would have matched and overmatched, but for the lack of plutocrat backing, such that they couldn’t command enough stations. Again, this is a boundary condition, vis-á-vis the outside money being bigger than the market, dislocating and distorting and disconnecting the normal natural processes, by which the free market would indeed work but for that.
I’m not sure what you’re calling a small potato (did you study spelling with Dan Quayle? heh), but surely it can’t be the subject of mass communication’s effect on control of government. That’s right up at the top in my view.

Speaking of radio, there’s a radio station in Missouri, KUPH (aka “The Fox 96.9″) which has recently ratcheted up the government propaganda. Along with “the best music from the 80s, 90s, and today”, they are heavily promoting selective service. During every commercial break, there is at least one ad about selective service, about the things one might miss out on by not registering, and of course reminding us that “it’s the law”. As a rule, from 100% – 80% of any given group of people, will let the other 20% do ALL the work. So, 80% of the population (264,000,000) would be sheep but, 20% would be hardcore patriots…shoot first and keep shooting! Now, of the 20% (66,000,000) let’s be really conservative and say 50% of those were “taking their time” getting mad enough to rebel: that leaves 33,000,000 ready to act, pissed off American citizens.
As I see the numbers, a “Minuteman Army of irregulars” ready to defend their families, country, and futures…could defeat you idiots even if you threw a biological attack at us. I would hope that American Troops would mutiny and fight along side the American Public especially if they knew bio weapons were in the attack plans. Remember, you can’t forget your families are in amongst us, too! And if foreign troops are brought in to suppress us…good luck with that, too.
As for me, 33 million is a bigger number than 5 million (troops, police, foreign troops). And we will fight with intelligence and allegiance to the Constitution of this Country! God open your eyes, that one day I may see you in heaven. Read the Word of

You may NOT have tomorrow! For death comes when we least expect it! Make sure
you are saved TODAY! The Bible condemns the rich, the wealthy, those who take
advantage of the poor, so it CANNOT have been made up by the elite. Because the
Word clearly CONDEMNS people such as those! Read the Word for yourself and see
that the claims are true!!!
I am a Christian, and STILL struggle with sin. Many so called Christians are
arrogant and hypocritical and think they have it all together. It is my desire
to do RIGHT as a Christian but will falter just like anyone else.

I am a Republican that has stuck his neck out his for you. I have spoken out loud in supporting your efforts to save our nations. I have condemned all those that have stated for you to fail. They do not realize that if you fail, our nation fails. Once the pillar of strength and respect, our nation will be owned by those that loaned us money. If you fail, people will fail. No jobs. No living wage. No families.
Mr. President, I ask of you to please cut the strings. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are the puppet masters and they are pulling all the strings and you are the puppet. During your campaign you stated that you would go line by line and get rid of spending that is useless, yet you have allowed the puppet masters to waste valuable money on items and issues that have nothing to do with helping the nation and the people. If you were going to spent all of that money, instead of giving it to the puppet masters and their friends, you should have put your foot down and told them that the trillions of dollars would go directly to the people. You could have easily gave $40,000.00 to married tax paying people, and $20,000.00 to single tax paying people, and yes, to those of us making under $250,000.00. We in the middle class would trickle up the money, as we would get caught up with our bills and especially our mortgages, and then would have money to spend, and by spending we create confidence, and with confidence we create a stronger nation.
Mr. President, I know you want what is best. You have two beautiful daughters, as I have two beautiful sons, and many others in the middle class have beautiful children as well. We all want our children to have a better future, without fear of economic collapse, or even foreign takeover, and that could happen if nations decide to cash in their treasury notes.

f--- Pelosi. She is a criminal. Everyone, talk to friends that are active duty military. Remind them about what they have sworn to protect, (against all enemies “foreign or domestic”). Remind them that the Constitution is the “fabric” that keeps our country together, and they have to protect it. Also remind them, that it is their duty to not follow orders that they strongly feels is not a legal order. Hopefully, they will come to see, that as a military member, their duty is first to protecting the U.S. Constitution.
