A Philadelphia police officer was shot and seriously wounded in an ambush-style attack while sitting in his patrol car, city officials said early on Friday.
The shooter, who has been arrested, fired about 13 shots into the window of the officer’s car, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross told reporters. He walked toward the car as he fired, eventually getting close enough to reach in the window.
The motive for the attack was not immediately clear, officials said.
The 33-year-old officer, identified by media as Jesse Hartnett, was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital. Hospital officials were not immediately able to provide detail on his condition on Friday.
