Criminals beware: Allegheny County is planning to keep an electronic eye out for you.

County Emergency Services Chief Bob Full said Friday that $750,000 in a pending federal appropriations bill would help pay for as many as 40 remote-controlled cameras to watch for crimes and monitor emergencies.

“We want to keep (criminals) guessing, but we want them to also know that we are watching them in critical areas,” he said.

Cameras could be moved as needed and would be monitored and controlled from the department’s Point Breeze headquarters, Full said. Images could be relayed to police officers responding to an incident and shown on their in-car computers, he said.

The planned system will include 64 cameras the county already has, as well as 64 sensors that sniff the air for traces of chemicals and radioactive materials.

The closed-circuit wireless surveillance network could include microphones that detect the sound of a gunshot and alert dispatchers, said Sen. Arlen Specter. He said images caught by cameras would be an aid in prosecuting crimes.

Im from P-Burgh. It’s a Nazi/Nanny city and the same goes for the rest of the state. Why do you think we are spread out all over the country, it’s a police state there. If you know P-Burgh, you know they should have used this money for the 30 million potholes, or the garbage scattered about.

They have been killing the middle class for decades, your either really rich, really poor, or really far away starting a new life.

Hes very right about the state of things here. The Public is so ignorant and paranoid that they welcome tricknology such as this. Its such a small city with extreme,y rich people and very poor within three blocks of each other…The richest men in American history used to call this home and now their families do, with the sensitive goings on @ CMU and Univ. Pitt medicine…its easy to see why this is going to happen

    4. roaddog Says:

They ain’t watching criminals—They’re watching everybody.

    5. David Pk Says:

Chuck I noticed the obvious decline in infrastructure about 12 years ago in our state and city ( Tulsa ,Ok )
At first I thought it was our state government redirecting funds . Nothing new here , we have always had
a sad excuse for leadership here . But, as time went by and the deterioration was getting to the point of being ridiculous . I realized , they are buying time . Look up , rewilding , and deconstruction . They are letting America crumble on purpose . We are to become one great big game reserve . With what is left of us
crammed into police state work camps . I heard a Lakota Chief saying , in a speech, that soon the white Ameircans would be on reservations . He said that is what the New World Order was all about . Smart man,
he was right . ( speech was given in 1989 )

    9. blueberry jam Says:

      Chuck, solid point

they have enticed the whole thing by making surveillance profitable for the partnership between government and those who supply the equipment

and about the infrastrucutre – as increidble as it seems they are just allowing VAST swaths of pittsburgh to simply fade away

has anyone seen what detroit is going thru? it is breathtaking in its scope of urban decay – monumental porportions.

well, as more jobs go or are cut, it’s simply happening at this alarming rate – the deterioration of american blue collar cities

it is amazing that there is a budget for tv cameras and central surveillance command centers, but no money for the roads and other public projects

now it is always pertinent to mention that this info, the camera surveillance, the whole thing, is also piped out to other parties, to other departments, and yes to other nations

as this system is built, the weakness in society, or shall we say american resistence to tyranny, can be evaluated by really observing the habits of people. they will plot the public on their graphs

my fear is that thru surveillance attrition, many people will be removed from the neighborhoods for trivial violations of the law, but now that there is no 4th amendment – people are really at risk

and should i remind anyone or everyone that just because you perhaps lead a strict lifestyle, there has to be someone in your own family who will be caught in these dreadful dragnets

that’s what this is all leading to: a huge dragnet agaisnt the population of the united states

it is beyond shameful – we are actilng life the soviets and the german socialists who we fought agaisnt in the 2nd world war.

once this set-up is complete – the trap will be sprung on the public and many will be arrested.

all they have to do is to make criticism of the government illegal – call any talk whistleblowing or violation of some secrets laws.

again – how can it be that only this good website is on top of all o this. WHERE is the rest of the country?? don’t they feel it? where is their sense of patriotism?

they don’t wish to believe it… well, independent motivation of the american spirit is taking this on – it is still considered unfashionable to be really patriotic about the republic

the truth keeps chiming in – and this nation will realize that these issure are vastly important to the freedoms that they simply take for granted

smoking in your own car will be illegal, standing on one spot on the sidewalk for 10 minutes will be illegal, talking in public will be reprimanded

and everyone giggles now, but WHAT are the cameras for then? for the publics safety??

none of the video footage of 911, none of it has really ever been shown, and now they want more cameras?

well guess what – when the government attacks the public the cameras become useful to see WHO WERE THE WITNESSES, then to go chasing them and remove eye-witness johnny come lately’s

they can go say… ‘there were 9 people on this street corner when governent contractor mercenaries attacked a local fire department’ then they can remove them quickly

      people giggle

but WHY do you think Ben Franklin created the overwhelmingly better fire brigades in his day 232 years ago when they had a type of fire department

AND THE ANSWER IS THIS AMERICA ___________________________________ !!!

Before they sent in the Hessians to go after any pockets of group resistence in the original 13 states, they would send agents to burn down buildings and cause chaos and havoc in the coloinies.

Benjamin Franklin, being among many things, understood that the new americans NEEDED a fire brigade to fight fire fast OR the infrastructure of the fledling independent nation would be burned by the British Crown – and leave municipalities wihtout a base to work from.

Now we have cameras everywhere – those cameras are there to cover up the crimes. If there’s a witness – he can be hunted down and removed from appearing at trial.

more and more the plot to undermind and hurt our beautiful country becomes clearer and clearer.

God bless America – God Bless America – God Bless America

    17. lonefrog Says:

Thank you Anna for that wonderful insight, but it has to be tiring for you to pretend to be somebody else all the time.

You do realize, that when your masters have no further use for you, they are going to close the door and leave you out in the cold. Then you will have no one to turn to.

Chances are you won’t even understand what happened.

      Maybe Jesus will save you.

      Somehow, I even doubt that.

    21. Dee Jay Says:

Should at least be able to save some money; could get rid of about half the cops as they wouldn’t be needed anymore. Cameras doing their job for them. Anna, #11, why don’t you go home? We don’t need you here! I think you are out to rile people; don’t you think there is enough stress in our lives without listening to your b******t?

    22. Dee Jay Says:

Geeze, they make it sound like they are just doing surveillance on the bad guys??? I wonder how they can pull that one off???

    23. Don in DE Says:

#11, Anna. That is hilarious, except for that little burn in the back of my mind that makes me afraid you may actually believe what you say. I hope for our sake that you are just misplaced in time, maybe you would have been happier in Soviet Russia or Hitler’s Germany.
Are you sure you aren’t Michelle Obama using an alias?
This is just more “it’s for your own good and protection” as it slowly chips away at what little “privacy” we may actually still have. The facists like “Anna” that get off on power trips while they hold everything you do and say under their magnifying glass of suspicion and approval.
I hope that “live and let live” is not a relic of the past that seems to be under attack like so many of my values and beliefs of what America is supposed to stand for and that I might live out the rest of my life not worrying if some impotent, self righteous weasel will be monitoring and reporting evrything I do or say to the Gestapo.
Thomas Jefferson is a personal hero of mine and I worry these days that he must be spinning in his grave. The men who built this country such as Washington, Jefferson and Patrick Henry, to name a few, must surely be weeping for what our country has become.
Live free or die my friends

    24. Don in DE Says:

omg, Anna. just think about this as you sit at your computer drooling on yourself because of the frontal lobotomy you have obviously had.

to my knowledge, a video surveillance system has NEVER prevented a crime. just as the police rarely actually prevent a crime, they spend most of their time responding to crimes that have already happend and shaking down citizens writing tickets.

take the time to understand what things really mean before you parrot what your overlords want you to believe.
look up the definition of surveillance and this is what you find:
watch kept over a person, group, etc., especially over a suspect, prisoner, or the like

nowhwere does any definition say anything about protecting, preventing or any other warm and fuzzy word that should make us feel glad that our “protectors” are watching.

what a poor, lost soul. Just living your life wishing for others to take care of you and never having an independent thought. don’t forget to wipe the drool from your chin

    25. ajdc Says:

to anna, and idiots like anna.
i hope you realize you are contradicting your own beliefs. if you allow surveillance cameras and SPIES to be in and around public areas, your freedoms are being taken away from you because you are being recorded and accounted for. then, you give the “losers” a big fact full of proof. so, that means you loose. read up!

    26. knight Says:

All i can say is public cameras and remote cameras in public places are public and we the public,we the people have the right to view those public cameras no matter what kind of camera it is.

    27. TIME FOR 1776 Says:

Anna belongs to the group that EAT their own!

    28. Bob Says:

Remember people, YOU are the criminals they want to watch. DO NOT think otherwise. And if your argument is, “I am a law-abiding citizen. I have nothing to fear.” That is NOW, wait until they change a law which you feel is fundamental to your life, liberty and pursuit of happiness!

Just wait morons. Wait until they outlaw the Bible as hate-speech. Wait until they outlaw all gun ownership. Wait until any disagreement with official government policy is outlawed by a trade agreement, over which you had no say, but which your local police enforce. Then YOU will be the criminal if you engage in any of those activities.

    29. David Pk Says:

c’mon guys skip this anna character ,it’s a waste of time . Get used to ignoring the posts that look like
that and babble on and on about Jew this and Jew that . They really have nothing else to say .

I knew an Alex Jones guy, he was on and on with Jesus this and that and the government is gonna kill us. He was also very violent, had homosexual tendencies and was a major drug abuser.

A lot of this the government is after you stuff has to do with blame-shifting and feelings of guilt.

You folks should get a life and leave government to those best suited to handle it.

This is why leaders are selected – can’t just let any moron into office

go tell yo momma people – and Michelle Malkin is freakin gorgeous!!!!! WOOOOOHOOOO

    32. Monica Says:

Cameras have not been approved for the areas that I live and work in and won’t be.
Residents will never allow it. They will be stationed in areas populated with various forms of lowlife where there is regular crime. The city council is bragging that they stood up to Homeland Security and only allowed cameras in crime areas and they will only be general purpose, not able to focus in on individuals and footage will only be stored for 5 days then erased. I’m not able to come up with much of a reaction to this because it’s not going to affect me personally and where it is being activated there are large segments of crazy and/or criminal people who do need to be watched.
There’s an increasing problem in those areas with unemployed poor using hardcore drugs and freaking out and a large elderly population they can easily prey on if not monitored.
Also lots of drug-related drive-by shootings on a daily basis.
But I think the cameras will be useless – criminals know how to cover their faces.
Here in Pittsburgh there are just a few decent areas to live then the rest is an excursion into
inbred post-industrial lower echelons of the gene pool – I don’t go there and don’t care what
they do there. There are large segments of the populace in those areas who make Eugenics seem
like not such a bad idea after all. I don’t have any clue as to how the law should deal with them.
But I do know they won’t try it here. This is yuppieland and residents are very radical and
quick to litigate. Homeland Security will never make headway here.

    33. Betsy Says:

I don’t want a society filled with cameras watching the citizenry. If we can’t resist the use of cameras, let’s put them in meaningful places like international corporate board rooms, Council on Foreign Affairs meetings, on Wall Street, or in World Banking institutions, at gatherings of congressional lobbyists, inside White House closed meetings, at headquarters of Homeland Security and inside the Pentagon. Oh, yes, we should have some portable ones for the SPP , CIA and Bohemian Grove frolickers. If we used cameras in a meaningful way to watch these and many other groups who actually need watching, they might be appropriate and worth the expenditure.

But, since I am fundamentally against the “big brother” camera mentality, it would not be appropriate to subject these or other groups to monitoring. Better to skip the cameras and promote ethical and moral leadership.

    34. Jay Says:

I live in Pittsburgh and didn’t even know this was going on. Might have to organize something if we can.

Anyone who lives in Pittsburgh and may not have noticed all the cameras, one, wake up! Two, they are pretty easy to spot. They first went up at least 6 months ago in East Liberty. A notoriously “dark” area of the city. The next place I noticed them was in my neighborhood, Bloomfield. There is at least 30 of them on a short stretch of Liberty Ave. Look for the tag that says, “Oil War,” and look up. They are easy to spot. The white cameras against the brick buildings… you’d be surprised as to how many people don’t notice though. My friends and I already have a plan to get rid of them…
