Believe it or not, there are some New Yorkers who actually support the police.

That became clear Friday, when dozens of pro-police protesters faced off at City Hall with anti-cop demonstrators, wearing “I CAN breathe” T-shirts that put a more positive spin on the chant taken from suffocated police suspect Eric Garner’s last words, according to the New York Observer.

Even though Police Commissioner Bill Bratton predicted a low pro-cop turnout and police supporters were clearly outnumbered, those who turned out to defend police officers made their presence and sentiments known.

“You deserve to be strangled!” one anti-cop agitator shouted, according to the New York Post. “You’re defending murderers!”

A cop supporter responded heartily, saying, “Go home to your mother’s basement and play Xbox!”

The two sides chanted varying mantras — “NYPD, thank you for protecting me,” from police supporters and, of course, “I can’t breathe,” from the usual suspects.

One moment of solidarity did arise when a police supporter started a “de Blasio sucks” chant – a knock on the city mayor — that drew in both sides.

There’s something everyone can agree on.
