Joseph Swink, a 22-year-old college junior studying accounting, was on the way home from an internship at Edward Jones in St. Ann, Missouri when he was in a car accident. As his car began filling with smoke, Swink started to run from the crash site. Suddenly, he was tackled and arrested by police officers. Swink was badly injured.
St. Ann police have apologized and said it was a case of mistaken identity. The officers were in pursuit of a suspect wanted for 17 warrants. The suspect’s car clipped Swink’s car, and both vehicles crashed.
From local Fox news:
St. Ann Police Chief Aaron Jimenez said, “Most of the time when you see that you know this is the bad guy. He’s running. Unfortunately, he was a citizen.”
Swink was totally innocent. It turns out he was running from his car because it was filling with smoke.
