Poplawski Smear Debunked: Cop Killer Held Opposing Views To Infowars

A vicious smear attack on Alex Jones and his websites launched by the ADL in the aftermath of the Pittsburgh police shootings which attempted to classify Infowars as an outlet for “hate speech” has been discredited after the ADL’s own website admitted that Richard Poplawski held views that opposed those of the Texas radio talk show host.
Stories claiming that Poplawski was influenced by Alex Jones, Infowars and Prison Planet originally appeared Sunday in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Raw Story. Neither of these news organizations attempted to speak with us before claiming the link and Raw Story later issued a retraction and removed us from their original piece altogether after we questioned the sloppy nature of their writer Muriel Kane’s hit piece.
The Raw Story piece now omits any mention of Prison Planet, Infowars or Alex Jones, stating, “Editor’s note: RAW STORY regrets an early version of this article was published without an editor’s approval. This article has been revised and edited.”
Liberal blogs and websites have grossly inflated the shootings out of context to claim that the tragic events were not as a result of a domestic dispute gone horribly awry, but as some kind of retribution launched deliberately by Poplawski borne out of his fierce support for the second amendment and interest in conspiracy websites. They have employed classic guilt-by-association tactics to attack gun rights activists in an attempt to discredit the very real agenda on behalf of the Obama administration to curtail the second amendment.
Forget the snarky blog entries at Little Green Footballs and Daily Kos — the attack against Alex Jones is now a main course diet for the Anti-Defamation League. “Web sites like the neo-Nazi Stormfront forums and the anti-government conspiracy Infowars site fueled [Richard Poplawski's] racist, anti-Semitic, and conspiratorial mindset,” the ADL claims in the white supremacy section of its website.
The ADL wrote the following about the Pittsburgh shooter and a post in the comment section of Infowars:
“One of Poplawski’s favorite places for such conspiracy theories was the Web site of the right-wing conspiracy radio talk show host Alex Jones. Poplawski visited the site, Infowars, frequently, shared links to it with others, and sometimes even posted to it. One of his frustrations with the site, though, was that it didn’t focus enough on the nefarious roles played by Jews in all these conspiracies. “For being such huge players in the endgame,” he observed in a March 29, 2009 posting to Infowars, “too many ‘infowarriors’ are surprisingly unfamiliar with the Zionists.” Another time he was more hopeful, noting that “racial awareness is on the rise among the young white population.”
A search of the comments section on Infowars, Prison Planet, and the Prison Planet forum produces zero matches for Poplawski’s handle, “Braced for Fate.” A search of his name also produces no results. However, a Google search of the quote used in the ADL article produces a comment posted to Infowars that matches the one in the ADL article under the handle “P O Status” with an email containing “Richp,” the name cited by the media.

The ADL claims Poplawski or somebody using his handle posted “frequently” on the Infowars comments. In fact, “P O Status” left three short posts, thus making him an infrequent commenter at best.
Comments on Infowars are open to the public and until very recently contained no restrictions and very little moderation. Considering this, it should be obvious to the ADL and others that Alex Jones and Infowars do not support the views expressed in all comments. Obviously, the ADL has an axe to grind and does not find it objectionable to lead its readers to unwarranted conclusions — that Alex Jones operates a racist and white supremacist website. Even a cursory examination of Alex Jones’ comments and those of the writers on his websites reveals the exact opposite — Alex Jones has on numerous occasions denounced racism.
Even if we are to take the ADL’s accusation at face value, despite it being backed up with no hard evidence whatsoever, the attachment to their own press release admits that the nature of Poplawski’s statements on our website comment boards was antagonistic towards Alex Jones, Infowars and Prison Planet for not subscribing to his warped political world view. How on earth can that be taken as meaning that Poplawski was influenced by Alex, Infowars or Prison Planet when Poplawski expressed his explicit disagreement with our political stance?
There’s no doubt that Poplawski was a neo-nazi and a white supremacist who held distasteful opinions. The fact that such views are a complete 180 from what we write about every day, and the fact that the ADL itself admits Poplawski expressed disagreement with our material, debunks the ridiculous notion that his shooting rampage was remotely influenced by anything he may have read on our websites.

This is not the first time that the ADL has attempted to classify Alex Jones and his websites as “hate” material. Several years ago they attempted a similar stunt and were later forced to back down and retract their statements after Jones sent them a letter informing them of their slanderous accusations which were libel.
It is also noteworthy that clear evidence points to the ADL having had a significant influence in the writing of the controversial MIAC report, which equated Ron Paul supporters, libertarians and people who display political bumper stickers with domestic terrorists and hate groups. The report later had to be completely withdrawn after numerous different parties threatened lawsuits on the back of the report’s ludicrous assertions that third party political candidates Ron Paul, Bob Barr and Chuck Baldwin were somehow tied in with white supremacists and people like OKC bomber Timothy McVeigh and Olympic Park bomber Eric Rudolph.
Over at the Daily Kos site operated by the former Reaganite and documented wannabe CIA employee Markos Moulitsas Zuniga, the knives are coming out in a big way against Alex Jones. “In the end, I believe the mainstream media needs to press hard on people like Glenn Beck, Don Black (Stormfront) and Alex Jones (PrisonPlanet) to discuss how the poisonous environments they’ve created and the hate they spew fuel people like Richard Paplowski,” writes a contributor with the handle fcvaguy. “The mainstream media should also educate Americans about these hate sites, because my guess is most of America knows nothing about them.”
Prison Planet and Infowars, of course, are anything but hate sites as regular readers know. Daily Kos has long been in the business of such absurd political reductionism and guilt by association, even though Prison Planet and Infowars are not even remotely associated with Stormfront or its brand of racist ideology. In many ways, Daily Kos is a website peddling the worst kind of mean-spiritedness with its sharply divisive Democrat partisan politics.
We vehemently advise the Daily Kos, the ADL and the other blogs who have jumped on this fallacious and slanderous bandwagon in an attempt to smear Alex Jones, Infowars and Prison Planet to follow the example of Raw Story and issue retractions. Let it be on record that we are currently considering what further action to take should retractions not be forthcoming.

Infowars and PrisonPlanet have regular readers in Italy we know for sure. It is therefore clear that Alex Jones rants and rhetoric are directly responsible for the L’Aquila earthquake yesterday. If we don’t do something about these types of radio talk shows, more natural disasters of this nature will be sure to follow.

You have to take what you like and leave the rest. I don’t agree with Alex on everything, or I don’t always agree 100% with how he interprets particular documents, for example, but I do investigate things for myself.

Does it strike anyone else as odd that the ADL is able to attribute a post to Poplawski from a website that they do not own nor have access to the logs? They definitely know the legal grounds for libel, so they wouldn’t print such a statement unless they are positive it is Poplawski, which begs the question, how are they able to confirm this? Clearly they have access to information that can only be obtained pursuant to a court order (subpoena) issued in response to a petition from the district attorney’s office. In other words, somewhere the law is being broken with impunity, which is a clear sign that this is a state sponsored smear campaign with the ADL acting as an agent for the state.
AJ, you handled it perfectly today. Kurt, unless I’m mistaken, Poplawski would be the Pittsburgh shooter not “the Philly shooter.” Watson probably wrote that part, seeing how he is on the other side of the pond.

I understand why Alex wants to distance himself from stormfront but for the record, this murderer posted one time on stormfront and why this site wants to lambaste stormfront is beyond me. There are over 50 thousand people a day who come to stormfront and yes, it is obvious that Alex is not a White Nationalist but just like the ADL is lying about info wars, why not do enough research on the fact that many of the post on this site would not be permitted on Stormfront.
You are not allowed to make any threats or suggest any violence, that goes for everyone. I know of a person who had over 5,000 post on stormfront that was banned for life because he broke the rules and that is just one of very many.
Is infowars saying that if you go to stormfront not to come to this site? I don’t understand, this is not what I would do but this is not my site. I like Alex and believe in many of the things he says. he probably saved my daughters life by all of the advice I got on this site about vaccines and so much more.
I don’t mind Alex defending himself but I just would not take the bait and use this time to say, we are not like stormfront. He is not a troll and he makes a good point. I didn’t get the sense that AJ was dumping on Stormfront, but maybe I’m not as sensitive to criticism of the site. I have never been to the site. While I am sure Infowars shares many of the same concerns as Stormfront, the issue of White Nationalism is not one of them, and that is the issue the media was focusing on. Has immigration contributed to the destruction of our culture? Indirectly, maybe. The greater destruction stems from political groups pushing “political correctness.” I can remember the exact point in time where I noticed that newscasters were no longer wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. All of sudden it became Happy Holidays. That still pisses me off.
The fact is, when you emigrate to another country you are making a choice to live there, which means you should respect the country’s culture and adapt to it. You shouldn’t demand that the culture adapt to you. We can’t say immigrants have done this. Most immigrants, like the Japanese for example (no I’m not asian) went out of their way to become as American as possible, which is what made their internment that much more unjust. Special interest groups are to blame for the destruction of our culture, and I agree that Zionists have contributed greatly to that destruction. That is not racist. The racists are the Zionists.

Being in Pittsburgh, I was horrified at the low journalistic integrity that Mr. Roddy, often enjoyable, showed. I mean, they still haven’t pinned down why he was discharged from the military, how/why he left high school, or his employment, etc. But his political views, and who is responsible for them? I don’t know why they all bothered. It’s clearly all based on logical fallacies. In particular I think false cause. They are trying to say that because this nut killed people and was interested in conspiracy theories, that people who are into conspiracy theories will kill people. We know this is a false smear just by looking at the statistics, quite large numbers of the population believe in some conspiracy theory or another, and they live perfectly happy lives and never harm anyone.
This guy was just a nut plain and simple.
I think a big reason for their attacks at the moment, is because people like O’Rly, Beck, and others have been considering the idea that maybe global currency or eroding national sovereignty aren’t so wacky anymore, with the outcomes of the G20, and some policies of Obama. It smacks of desperate attempts to smear anyone seen as right wing and opposed to the New Boss by any means necessary.
If the ADL just did their job, which apparently is;
“fights anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry, defends democratic ideals and protects civil rights for all.”
there would hardly be any conflict between them and people like Jones. Jones is against racism (The Libertarian streak in him wants everyone to be free), he’s completely for civil rights (The defense of the constitution). The only bone of contention I would think is that Jones would point out that the USA technically is not a Democracy, it’s a Republic, but that’s a political point that people can debate.
Conspiracy theorists may look a little odd to people who don’t accept those views, but they are no more dangerous a section of society than anyone else. I see more racism on almost any youtube video than on Jone’s sites, and when it does appear it’s just the occasional comment that usually gets shot down pretty quick. This is no different to any website really, if you have an open comments policy, you will get the occasional person expressing very distasteful views. It’s the internet, get over it, there are some losers on it from time to time, on all sites. Within the framework of free speech, you just have to try and convince them they are wrong when they do crop up.
Big thumbs down to the ADL on this one, get back to your stated goals and stop this political sniping.

AJ forms an opinion based upon the best information available, just like the rest of us. A police officer has submitted a sworn affidavit detailing the events that is attached to and serves as the basis for the criminal complaint filed against Poplawski. It’s approximately 12 pages long. AJ’s opinion is based upon witness statements of the event. For now that is the best information available. I hear what you are saying. I was saying the same thing in the forums on Sunday morning. We know more now. Although we do not know for certain, it appears the officers may never have drawn their weapons. Both of the officers responding to the call had no more than two years of experience. It also appears, based upon the affidavit, that Poplawski may not have been wearing the vest during the initial encounter, despite media reports to the contrary.
I would like to hear the 911 call. Did the operator ask if the subject was armed or dangerous? What did the mother say? What did the officers know walking into this encounter? I’m not a police officer, but it sounds like the officers may not have been cautious enough, which means they most likely did not enter with intentions of being aggressive and hostile. Sadly, this may be where their lack of experience cost them their lives. These officers didn’t have the benefit of a seasoned veteran who has learned from his mistakes and the mistakes of others. Unfortunately, law enforcement is an occupation where the littlest of mistakes can cost you your life. We should all remember this the next time we encounter the police before we criticize them for being unfriendly or seemingly hostile. Until they can size up a situation, they must treat any initial encounter as potentially deadly, especially a domestic disturbance call.
I think the mother has an enormous amount blame in this matter. She requested police assistance and asked them to enter her home to extricate her son. I guarantee at no time did she advise the officers that Poplawski was armed and potentially dangerous. You have to remember, this was a decent neighborhood where supposedly “cops and firemen lived.” The officers’ guard would have been understandably somewhat down. Again, a situation where the wisdom of a seasoned veteran may have made a difference. The police are going to study this event and use it as a training tool for cadets.
You are correct in your sentiment, though. This event changes nothing. We have serious trust issues in this country, which no doubt was a contributing factor to this tragedy.

I listen to AJ on a fairly regular basis, and I’ve never heard Alex talk about the so-called “no-planers”, except maybe once or twice, and that was in reference to it being a possible psy-op to discredit true conspiracy(ies).

I’ve commented more in the last two days than I have over the last two years. (I live in Pittsburgh, so this hit literally “close to home.”) I’ve had comments “lost”, but I don’t feel its censorship in a bad way. Maybe its just system errors, as it happens on many sites sometimes. (Hit submit at the same time twenty others did, causing overload???) They would need a group of people speedreading, and speed-judging, comments round the clock for it to work that way. Its probably some commercial program that scans for certain words, groups of words, or phrases, that are flagged. Infowars would do good to tell us how this occurs or provide a list of what is “unacceptable” to quell contempt. My “lost” comments were innocent enough, as I don’t speak, or type, distastefully as a general rule. Programs, as far as I know, aren’t very good at judging context.

Alex Jones’s site is full of hate and full of haters. I really think it should be shut down. It’s riotous and has no place in American society. No one man should have this much control over what morons like the people who come here think. AJ provides NO proof.. just opinion.. just like every other opinion in the world. The idiots who come here aren’t smart enough to determine the fine line between conspiracy theory and fact. AJ is a business man who is in this to make MONEY! You probably wont see this because his illuminatti are hard at work to make sure YOU dont and if you do.. it’s just another way he will spin it. This guy is dangerous as hell to our country! And frankly.. if you believe him.. so are you. I’m not on the side of racist, sexist, undereducated, self loathing, big mouthed, under-informed losers! The world may not be perfect but it certainly isn’t over. Get some fresh air people. Meet your neighbors. Take a walk to vent your frustrations.

This is a perfect time to point out that …. (TO THE PEOPLE OF THE INTERNET) … News is all fabricated in some ways…. let me show you:
Big media: Will only play articles that will be known to have rating, for example O.J Simpson, Parris Hilton… and all the other dribble in between
Alex Jones: Will only show articles that further make his point known, are they 100%? Likely not, which is why Alex himself says that you need to look into it for yourself.
Just like everything, it’s all a sad sad business where accuracy takes a back seat to ratings. But I will say this, Alex is WAY more accurate then 99.9999% of all big media, but Alex is none the less still media trying to make his point known.
Case in point: If this “revolution” turns out, and we win!!! It’s over, (we won whatever it is that we are really trying to achieve!!) do you REALLY think it would benefit Alex to promote that? No he would try to find faults in every system (it’s what makes us better) but he would still be (to the people that won the revolution) a “hater” because he doesn’t agree with your point of view.
That is really (I think) where the problem lies, when people don’t listen to the other person that is making them “look bad”, as opposed to hearing what they have to say and taking points from their rhetoric and trying to improve, SHEEP WE ARE NOT ALL THE BEST, WE ALL FALL TO MISTAKES! It is how we build off those mistakes that makes us better! Learn, Grow, Lead!
Enough ranting from me……
