Editor’s note: How long before the drones are fitted with Hellfire missiles like they are in Afghanistan?

The image was taken from an unmanned aircraft more than three miles away.
A Predator B Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) has been temporarily based at Fort Drum since early June in an experiment by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office.
The Department of Homeland Security is using the extensive restricted air space over Fort Drum to test whether the drone could be a good fit along this stretch of the northern border.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has five of the aircraft but so far none of them based permanently in the Northeast.
The Predator will operate out of Fort Drum for about three weeks for testing and training, and to evaluate its use to law enforcement.

My daily doom, this is like the first real beginning of the future of war machines and armies of unmanned robots…this sort of thing was science fiction when I was a kid wonder what it’ll be like when I’m ancient, a terminator like future could really happen one day only they’d still be mostly contolled or orderd by people but with some autonomous functions like, sit motionless for days without sleep or food or water and sniper anything with an infared heat signature resembling a human that doesn’t have a “chip”.

If we have satellites for border surveillance, then why do we need drones? How much does it cost to maintain and operate one of these drones? What’s the payoff? It only pays off for defense contractors.
On a related note, why do we let defense contractors sell weapons systems in foreign markets? Wasn’t the R&D paid for by U.S. taxpayers? How does it improve our national security to distribute advanced weapons systems and technology throughout the world? It doesn’t.

I see these things flying over my house every morning, granted I live 4 miles from a major air national gaurd base. Also they have been incredibly active lately, running drills which envision events such as,………Mass casualty drills, Invasion by foreign entities, and natrual disasters.
These drills used to happen once a year now they are taking place every third sunday each month. The f*cking sirens wake me up, followed by inaudible speech over a p.a. system.

I am pretty sure i saw one of these 2 days ago near Chicago…it was white and flying right below some low clouds…i could hear the engines but it was really faint…much smaller than any airplane I’ve seen…and it definitely was no Cessna. That little sucker was fast though

Are any of you truly surprised by this? I, personally am not. I’ve had the growing fear that this country would be the instigator, and looser of, WW-III. Sad thing is, WW-III will include and or culminate in the second American civil war.
A massive, global war will be a great distraction for what is left of the American people while our government finishes eliminating our civil liberties. By the time enough people realize it and become “one voice,” there may not be enough left of America for us to call home.
Middle America still exists in name only. The economic depression will last for a long, long time. GPS in cars and cell phones was initiated for “our protection.” The spy drones are just a back-up plan with on the spot weapons to take us out in an instant if we are deamed to be a major threat. Once the “total controls infrastructure” is completely in place and we are comfortable with it, fear of revolt will be a very minor, or nonexistent, fear of the controling powers and open attacks on Americans, by Americans, will be so common place that the vast majority of our fellow countrymen wont even notice.
