THE US Senate confirmed Porter Goss, 65, as head of the Central Intelligence Agency yesterday.
The Florida representative and former House Intelligence Committee chairman will take over from George Tenet.
Mr Goss was a spy for more than 10 years before entering Congress.
Supporters said Mr Goss's background makes him perfect to rebuild the troubled agency, which was criticised over the failure to head off the September 11 attacks and the information used to justify the Iraq war.
Opponents say Mr Goss is too closely connected to the intelligence establishment and the Bush Administration. - AFP
