Greece has been in turmoil for 11 days. The mood seems to have turned “pre-insurrectionary” in parts of Athens – to borrow from the Marxist handbook.

This is a foretaste of what the world may face as the “crisis of capitalism” – another Marxist phase making a comeback – starts to turn two hundred million lives upside down.
We are advancing to the political stage of this global train wreck. Regimes are being tested. Those relying on perma-boom to mask a lack of democratic or ancestral legitimacy may try to gain time by the usual methods: trade barriers, sabre-rattling, and barbed wire.
Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the head of the International Monetary Fund, is worried enough to ditch a half-century of IMF orthodoxy, calling for a fiscal boost worth 2pc of world GDP to “prevent global depression”.
“If we are not able to do that, then social unrest may happen in many countries, including advanced economies. We are facing an unprecedented decline in output. All around the planet, the people have reacted with feelings going from surprise to anger, and from anger to fear,” he said.
Russia has begun to shut down trade as it adjusts to the shock of Urals oil below $40 a barrel. It has imposed import tariffs of 30pc on cars, 15pc on farm kit, and 95pc on poultry (above quota levels). “It is possible during the financial crisis to support domestic producers by raising customs duties,” said Premier Vladimir Putin.

The US is yet to commence understanding what is truly going on leave alone a revolution. Self defense is self defense, but I just don’t see the logical progression from breaking up the place to eating regularly. Rather than depending on the government to provide work for him, by redistributing his wealth into subsidized welfare for big business, the individual might make work for himself.

So much for Global this Global that. I think protectionism is good. A more localized economy is a more sustainable economy, especially for us small folks, so are localized agriculture and local produce markets.

In California, a new law has passed regarding the new metered parking fees.
1. The parking meters now accept credit cards, lol.
2. Parking is now one dollar an hour it was twety-five CENTS.
3. In high traffic areas like the Wilshire corridor, Hollywood or the downtown area parking is now FOUR dollars an hour and the free parking after six P.M., has been extended to eight P.M..
In Los Angeles the population density is high, it is bursting at its seams and nearly everyone drives.
Attempting to find parking close to colleges, medical centers or businesses that help the poor/elderly and disabled was a problem before the new law and the parking lots with there fees that are ususally unreasonable become full quickly.
We can bet the politicans are going to funnell those fees in offshore bank accounts and to further their opulent lifestyles it will not be used to help the city or its citizens.
Slowly but surely like the ‘frog sitting in water that is gradually reaching its boiling point’ they intend to strip all of us of our means to live.

I’m an American living in South Korea right now and find it disturbing that by 2010 they are going to be thumb scanning every foreigner entering the country.
