A protest over the fatal shooting by a BART police officer of an unarmed man mushroomed into several hours of violence Wednesday night as demonstrators smashed storefronts and cars, set several cars ablaze and blocked streets in downtown Oakland.

The roving mob expressed fury at police and frustration over society’s racial injustice. Yet the demonstrators were often indiscriminate, frequently targeting the businesses and prized possessions of people of color.
They smashed a hair salon, a pharmacy and several restaurants. Police in riot gear tried to control the crowd, but some people retreated along 14th Street and bashed cars along the way.
The mob smashed the windows at Creative African Braids on 14th Street, and a woman walked out of the shop holding a baby in her arms.
“This is our business,” shouted Leemu Topka, the black owner of the salon she started four years ago. “This is our shop. This is what you call a protest?”
Wednesday night’s vandalism victims had nothing to do with the shooting death by a BART police officer of Oscar Grant on New Year’s Day – but that did little to sway the mob.

Unfortuantely, this is what they want us to do; to protest violently. I don’t know if there were any provocateurs involved but assuming there weren’t, people need to focus their anger in a proper way and at the proper outlets.
Maybe the killing of Grant by the BART officers will be the proverbial, “Straw that broke the camel’s back.” Maybe this will escalate into the event needed to bring the Northcom troops into action.

They would do better to get involved with the Campaign for Liberty, and actually work towards diminishing government power, since that is the issue here.

I live in the area. It seems that a few folks not connected with the demonstration started the violence. I am wondering if there were plants in the demonstrators to start violence so the police could arrest everyone. This is a predominantly black neighborhood and the Oakland police are not that bright. Maybe some other government group was planted in the crowd.

Yeah, why not take a lesson from the Icelanders, and run up on the police station and scream through bullhorns in their face. I think everyone would support that and a bigger crowd might assimilate if there were no collateral damage. If the cops responded disproportionately, that would draw the attention of even more people. If I were in San Francisco, I would march on the police station with San Franciscans. I would bring a camera with me too, so I could catch any police provocateurs pretending to be protesters on camera. Direct all the anger and frustration, and disgust directly on the police, and not on small businesses in the neighboring areas. C’mon people, how hard is it? Let’s do this properly

Why is it rioters always seem to take their revenge on the innocent? Seems to me it was the police that did this. Don’t give me that crap about the cops not being the problem; they each make decisions every day to do or not do something and enforcing the law has nothing to do with it. Just this week, I was invited to a ‘court’ on a warrant for my arrest for a traffic ticket. I wrote the Justice of the Peace a little notice and left it on his office door. I simply told him my right to life, liberty and persuit of happiness were not going to be taken with my consent. If he had the power to take my liberty without my consent, he also had the right to take my life, so he would have to do just that.
I did not go to the court, but they had Police officers there waiting for me with AR-15 rifles. So, he invited me into his private business, then has men with rifles there waiting for me?
Few have any idea how bad this country is, even fewer care to even look, they have their jobs, seek the god of federal reserve debt and consuming need to buy stuff. I can tell you this for sure, the local police here fear me, and that tells me I am doing something right!
Oh, I am still a free man today, they are like witches, they only have the power you give them!!

I always wonder why, when something like this happens, people go on a rampage trashing local businesses that had nothing to do with it. I mean, why don’t they throw Moltov cocktails into the front door of the police station? The police are obviously MURDERERS here and are CONSPIRING to cover it up.
I can only think of three reasons to explain this behavior:
1. The feds have provocateurs in the crowd.
2. Poor louts in society think that anyone who works for a living and has their own business is inherently evil because they are “rich” (LOL) and deserve to have their businesses destroyed at the first opportunity of social unrest.

Peaceful protests are never heard about accept for a line or 2, generally in local news. Violent protests, as you guys like to refer to them as (which I disagree and dont see corp. property destruction as violent), is heard around the world. Dont agree with taking it out on the family stores of course, but McDonalds…who really cares. Anyhow, thats just my opinion on this issue. I do agree with most of the things and views of the people who frequent this site but this is something we disagree on. I’m a Deputy in Texas, and I cant begin to tell you how sick it made me feel when I saw a video of a Bart Police Officer murdering the man in custody. He should be charged with Capital Murder, and the Officer that stood by and did nothing should also be charged! They are a disgrace to the badge and our proffesion! To the family of the man who was murdered I speak for a few of the Deputies. We hope justice will prevail, and all of you will be in our prayers. If your going to protest, which you should do then I suggest that before you go that you have a group inside the group to one go after the people that are creating property damage. You can buy zip ties like the police have at any hardware store. Have the group tackle the jerk and then cuff him to a light pole for the cops to pick up later. Two, when you see the cops rush the crowd and grab someone to take back across the police line then that same group needs to use there tactics on them and rush the cops. Stick together. There counting on you not to. Cuff them to a light pole too. And don’t forget to strip off his riot gear and use it for you own protection. Fight back. But use you head. Remember that they don’t have a problem killing you.

My posts don’t seem to go through these days so I will give this a shot…Rioting over such careless and negligent acts of hate that are displayed are not going to do anything but give the government a reason to have the military occupy your town. There are ways to take action legally and peacefully against the crooked city cops of Oakland as well as Bay Area Rapid Transit. This is just stirring up trouble and giving the government exactly what they want in order to keep us controlled. Up in my town, we had a riot of sorts right before halloween that started when the cops broke up a frat party. The masses started text messaging all of their friends–telling them to come take part in it and whatnot. Conveniently, it was right before the election where there was a ridiculous bill on the ballot that if it passed, it would grant “law enforcement” even more money in a town that has no crime short of tweaker b.s. and an occasional riot involving drunk 20 year olds.

The outrage must be focused on the ones that did it. The ones that make excuses for that cop and the ones that were there need to be dealt with also. I seemed to have touched a nerve. Stereotypes are based on at least some fact. LA, Watts, the South, Chicago. Minorities riot with no real game plan. They burn their own houses (actually tax payer owned) their own businesses (the news article). All that they understand is violence. Their heroes are gunned down violently, Tu Pac, and other Gangsta Rappers. It is not always The Man keeping them down. Stand up against all violence. Not just the Police but amongst each other. It was not cops and white men that killed all the young blacks in Chicago earlier this year. It was other blacks. Don’t try to push the blame off on anyone else. I made an observation.
The other day my friend and I had a discussion on how we found out about infowars dot com. He said he saw “INFOWARS.COM” ON his $ PAPER MONEY written on both sides. The letters were written on the edges (the empty spaces) as to not deface the paper money, yet prominent enough to get the person to check it out. Incidentally I found out about this site by “INFOWARS.COM” ON my £ PAPER MONEY!

Its extremely sad how Oscar Grant was shot inside the subway.
From what I’ve been seeing from a San Francisco Chronicle, a lot of people are saying this man was a criminal and that he held multiple accounts of crimes against him. They say who cares and that its “too bad” that he died from a cop.
Remember when he said he had a 4-year old daughter and that he meant no harm.
I’m not sure whether I misunderstood the whole situation but what started the whole problem? What did Oscar do to get his attention of the police and to get him killed? Why?
And a quote from the SFChronicle notes that Michael Crook said this after joining a Facebook group called “Justice for Oscar”:
“This was a justified shooting, and even if the officer was in error, another ape is off the streets. … This is just another family of black monkeys wanting a payday.”
Fucking bullshit! Excuse me for getting furious at this but was that an excuse to say he was demanding money for an accused multiple child family? These “rioters” had the balls to get off their asses and make a scene.. this is good. But it wasn’t nearly enough. If your gonna go, you need to go all the way. The people are paralyzed with fear. fear of what? being locked up? possibly dying? They are going to kill us or lock us up or both eventually anyway. The time to make a stand is NOW!
