Rahm Emanuel Wants “Compulsory Service” for Your Kids

Rep. Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, President-Elect Barack Obama’s choice for chief of staff in his incoming administration, is co-author of a book, The Plan: Big Ideas for America, that calls for, among other things, compulsory service for all Americans ages 18 to 25. The following excerpt is from pages 61-62 of the 2006 book:
It’s time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We propose universal civilian service for every young American. Under this plan, All Americans between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation and community service. …
Here’s how it would work. Young people will know that between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five, the nation will enlist them for three months of civilian service. They’ll be asked to report for three months of basic civil defense training in their state or community, where they will learn what to do in the event of biochemical, nuclear or conventional attack; how to assist others in an evacuation; how to respond when a levee breaks or we’re hit by a natural disaster. These young people will be available to address their communities’ most pressing needs.

Emanuel and co-author Bruce Reed insist "this is not a draft," but go on to write of young men and women, "the nation will enlist them for three months of civilian service." They also warn, "[s]ome Republicans will squeal about individual freedom," ruling out any likelihood that they would let people opt out of universal citizen service.
As chief of staff, Emanuel will not be in a position to directly introduce public policy, but his enthusiasm for compulsory service, combined with Barack Obama’s own plan to require high school students to perform 50 hours of government-approved service, suggest an unfortunate direction for the new administration.

I don’t really see whats too wrong with having a community group in case of a natural disaster, as people should help out the country in times of need. This is something Americans should know how to do, as many have no flippin’ clue what to do in case disaster struck. If this is mandatory training in rescue and medical training, then I can see no problem. But, if it turned into a snoop-squad, tattle tail police, a’la Stazi I would oppose it. I don’t particularly trust Emanuel as I have heard his policies are more towards the center.
Articles like this, and anything that shows who this man is are strongly encouraged, and we should be weary of drastic reforms. We shall just wait and see.

Great. National service SHOULD be required, because that will assure that voters will take a direct interest in what the government is doing, especially when it comes to war.
If we had a draft, I wonder if we would have ever invaded Iraq in the first place, and I guarantee you the protests would by now have ended the war. Funny how people take an interest when it’s THEIR kid that will have to go! The way things are now, only a small minority of the people have to sacrifice.
And we need the draft again — a fair draft that does not exempt the rich. The “all volunteer” military, where a large part of military ops and logistics are privatized, is a serious threat to our national security, and is also bankrupting the country.
Privatization of the military is a serious threat to our liberty because it SEPARATES the majority of the people from the military, and that is a REAL BAD idea. Everyone should have to sacrifice, and everyone should have a direct stake in what the government does. That way people will not only vote, but will demand accountability of the government.
Our military should be a PEOPLE’S military, not the government’s military, or some corporation’s military. Government of, by, and for the people applies to the military especially, because government is force and has the power to make war. The only way to assure a “people’s military” is by a universal draft.

Community service training should only be done at the local level. Furthermore, when citizens trust their government, then they are more willing to volunteer, without mandate, for service training that will help their community. When a government has to force its people to assist in times of crisis, then it’s the crisis and the government that should be questioned and not the loyalty of the citizens.

The “all volunteer” military is a conscious plan by the capitalist new world order to turn the military into a mercenary army that serves corporate interests and not the people. It benefits the contractors and corporations, not the people. It starts wars for profit, and not because they are just.
Once you separate the military from the people, you end up with dictatorship. Once you spearate the army troops from the majority of the people, then it will be a lot easier to convice the troops that “the people” are the enemy, and to pull the trigger on them.
This country started out with people’s militias, but now that we have a professional standing army, a universal draft is the only way to keep the military connected to the majority of the people.
Do you want the military to serve the elite, the corporations, or the people? The best way to make sure the people run the government, and not the other way around, is to not separate the army from the people.

When Obama’s new chief of staff wants to take my children for unspecified government service, that’s a specific real issue. I actually wouldn’t mind something like this as long as I could decide the service – such as military training or church service. But turning my kids over to a communist like Obama is not gonna happen.
Like Dave, our children are becoming brainwashed into not thinking when they hear certain phrases like hope and change and tolerance and diversity. These terms mean exactly nothing. Take a term like frequency. By itself, it is neutral. Frequency in getting a pay check is good while frequency in getting a brain tumor would be bad. And that is exactly like change and diversity. Take a simple math problem 2+2 You can list diverse answers like 3 or 4 or 5, but only one is correct. (4 in case you’re an Obama believer) Change away from the Constitution is bad. Hope of taking my money and giving it to your supporters is bad for me. 40% of the people in the US don’t even pay income tax. In other words, 40% of the US people are too STUPID to feed themselves. But by all means, let’s be filled with hope and change and diversity and give obama a chance and be for the good and against the bad. (Did you notice how the previous sentence could be taken from any politicians speech and means exactly nothing?)

I don’t think a couple months of community service once in a lifetime is asking too much. Learning how to help others in an emergency and then giving back to the community you live in will give our young people the opportunity to add to America’s greatness in a personal way.
Our children live in a world filled with opportunities because they are citizens in our great nation, America. It is an honor to give back, a little, to make our nation even greater for three measly months of community service.

And I must say, this incredible (and I mean that in a literal sense, ie, not credible) overreaction to the election of Barack Obama is concerning. It’s truly like no one remembers where they live and how long this has been going on. And for those of you who dont know, its been going on since 1913.
But Barack Obama is not going to come to your house and make your kids join a garbage clean-up team. He’s not going to convert the country to Islam. He’s not going to take your guns. And he’s certainly going to be a lot more level-headed when it comes our only export, war.
Sure, he’s not going to address the Federal Reserve. And I understand that the tax brake for 95% of Americans is specifically to calm those who would actually benefit from a currency printed by our government. But I’ll tell ya, Barack Obama deserves to be President. He collected the money, he built the team, he organize his campaign, and he kicked ass. You got to give it him. By the way, he’s your President, and if you say, “No, he’s not,” you would be, well, incredible.
What I think people mean when they say, “Give him a chance,” is that we need to lighten up and try to live within a context of reality. Hunkering down in the wilderness is not an option for most. Most of you have children and older parents. They dont want to live in fear. Raise up and be strong. Be a leader instead of shrinking back in horror.

It’s easy to overreact to something like this, but let’s look at what he’s proposing:
1) Train every American to deal with potential catastrophe’s
2) Encourage young people to perform community service
That’s not a bad idea. The bad part is that this would be compulsory. I would like to see training programs available for students who want to learn how to respond in catastrophe’s. I would also like community service opportunities to be more organized and available for interested students. While we’re at it, I would like to see militia training available so that every American can handle a gun (I’m sure Obama doesn’t have this one in mind though).
But this is America. And in American you don’t tell me what to do. I tell you what I am willing to do. That is the most basic form of liberty. I’d like to ask everyone to see the merit in these ideas instead of just getting offended at everything. Recognize where he’s coming from but then point out the part that is offensive: “compulsory” service.
This is supposed to be a land of opportunity. Not a land of slavery.

Interesting. The new government sounds more dictatorial than the old. That or, they will be utilizing all of the Bush doctrine and presidential directives and signing statements.
Obama’s first goal should absolutely be to impeach bush, cheney and remove any of the laws bush put in place. If the corrupt judges won’t allow it, replace them like bush did.
As far as kids 18-25 doing service time, well, they are not kids, and as such, they have a right to their own decisions on whether or not to go. If made mandatory, the backlash would be incredibly harsh from the people. If they want a draft, that is one thing. But even then youngsters should not listen to the govt if and when they decide to illegally invade and take hostage other countries.
A true patriot knows when to say no and will do so no matter the consequences imposed by the corrupt.

Since so many people want to know what to do, when is the gunfighting going to start, or just claim what they would do if such and such a situation ever happened to them or one of their own, maybe all those capable should find out where Alex Jones, Ron Paul, Jessie Ventura, and many of the other patriots who Alex has interviewed are and follow them around all day long giving them body guard services.
Now, obviously the enemy will eventually start something that will start a shoot out, but the defense will obviously be a glorious one that will go down in history as the first shot of the real revolution, the day when the battle cry started from the masses, not just the few. The enemy of course has the high tech weapondry and the tanks and aircraft, but it will be an organized effort on the part of the ones who are serious and capable of doing something for the first time as the question constantly arises about everyone organizing somehow to do something useful for the cause of stopping this police state we are now in.
Ones like Alex, Dr. Paul, and Jessie Ventura are alone in a sense. They are lone wolves. They are loners. They are the ones who are presently out on the front line. So why not start an organized effort yourselves to be with those loners on the front line while you can? Go help those on the front line already, bodily help that is, not just writing here or buying some of their books. Physically they have no protection, even if they have private body guards. Those who are capable of doing what I just suggested now become publically involved and the front liners are the ones who need it most giving them the backing they need for their very lives that they do not have presently. Hmmm, how do they plan on paying for this load? “Mandatory Volunteerism” is not cheap and tax payers need jobs. Just the thought of a battalion of junior eco nazis parading around town makes me laugh me arse off. It does have a positive side though, maybe my lil sis can score me a case or two of M-16s. They do this in dicatorships all the time. When I taught English in Uzbekistan in Peace Corps my school (and all schools really) had “army classes”. It was just like PE, Music, and Art. The kids received varying degrees of military training on the playground, running laps, swinging across the monkey-bars, doing push-ups and pull-ups, and learning to shoot. They didn’t use real guns of course–nobody in the country was allowed to own one. Instead they used this pea-shooter type of weapon.
The army teacher was a really nice guy– just somebody that was part of the system. But I remember finding it disturbing that they put kids through this and made me happy that I grew up in the USA. We can’t let ourselves sink to that.

The most recognized problem with the ingestion of too much fluoride is dental fluorosis. This condition is characterized by the failure of tooth enamel to crystallize properly in permanent teeth. Dr. William Marcus, believes that a study conducted by Battelle for the National Toxicology Program on the toxicology of fluoride shows that there were dose-related increases in bone cancer in male rats. Dr. Marcus also questions the removal by peer reviewers of cancers at other sites in the rats as well. Especially worrisome to Dr. Marcus is the fact that that levels of fluoride that caused the cancers in the rats were lower than those seen in humans who ingested lower amounts, but for a longer period. These levels are generated because fluoride is accumulated in the body and is not secreted.

The skill set mentioned in the article can/should be covered by a normal school curiculum. He’s missing the point, though, that for the training to be effective, everybody should take home a fully automatic assault rifle with sufficient ammo upon completion (Swiss model).
So, what are the things Rahmi boy might have in mind that are different from a course in a school like environment?
My guess is:
- Forced vaccinations
- “Exercises” incl. marching, sleep deprivation and following senseless commands to put people in the mode of “taking it”
- Propagandization
- Extraction of information about family and friends by embedded snitches
- Recruitment of new snitches
- Teaching kids that the collective is powerful
- Having squads whose services can be sold for payoffs to the “community leaders”
- Getting kids used to the idea of being away from home and ripping the family apart.
- Have people sign some legalese that makes them conscripts for life
- Make kids go through biowarfare “drills” in order to test stuff on them
- Expand the service duration over time, so that the general productivity will be lower and the American economy is further weakened.
- Get kids away from learning to make them dependent on government handouts.
- Worsen current problems a la FEMA and similar agencies:
New Orleans scenario: There are criminals looting the hood. – Let’s take all guns from law abiding citizens to prevent problems with that. Translated to compulsory service that means: The economy is bad. – Let’s take workers out of the workforce that could invent things to improve the economy, give them brooms and send them to the woods.
Most people know about most of the points above and nobody is going to buy it anyway, so it could just be a provocation to stir up dissent.
