Robert Baer: Iran strike would cause ’serious depression’

A former CIA agent and expert on Iran offered a grim assessment on Tuesday of American options in dealing with that nation, saying that "sanctions have failed," surgical strikes will lead to unacceptable retaliation against US interests, but a conventional war and invasion would "look like World War III."
Robert Baer is the author of a new book, The Devil We Know: Dealing with the New Iranian Superpower, which argues that Iran has already become the leading power in the Middle East and the United States has no choice but to negotiate with it.
"[The Iranians] called Bush’s bluff," Baer told Fox News’s Brian Kilmeade. "The Israelis are preparing for an attack. … Could be early first quarter of next year."
Baer said that Israel has been pressing the US for a go-ahead and support in bombing Iran’s nuclear facilities, but "Bush said no" to outgoing Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
"It cannot be a surgical strike," Baer explained, because "they are going to retaliate. They, the Iranians, are going to hit Saudi oil facilities, they’re going to hit tankers, they’re going to hit our troops in Iraq. … They’re going to take off 17 million barrels of oil a day in the Gulf."

"That’ll push us into a serious depression," Baer emphasized. "This is what Bush told Olmert. He said, ‘You do that and we’re going to feel it in Iraq and Afghanistan.’"
Baer explained further that "conventional war, we could destroy the country in a matter of minutes — but the point is, it’s going to look like World War III."
"I think we have to sit down and see if a deal can be cut," Baer concluded soberly, "because a big war, again, it would be nothing like Iraq."
An earlier book by Baer, See No Evil, was the basis for the movie Syriana, and George Clooney won an Oscar for playing a character based on the former agent.
The central argument of The Devil We Know is that "Iran, far from being a wild-eyed rogue state, is a rational actor — one skilled in the game of nations. … For U.S. policy makers, the choices have narrowed. … We might just find that in allying with Iran, we’ll have increased not just our own security but that of all Middle East nations."

So how exactly are we (the U.S) going to prevent Israel from attacking Iran? If Israel did attack it would start a war. Would we simply allow Israel to be wiped off the map? I know the scum in Washington spit swap with Israeli government goons, so I doubt we would just allow it to happen. Does the U.S have the ability to prevent Iran from making a move anyways?

I think pieces like this serve more as entertainment than real news and information.
This piece came originally from Fox News, then it was posted on Raw Story, and now it’s found it’s way to infowars.com. What was the term David Icke uses, “a nation of repeaters”? This stories offers no verification that what this clown says is fact. With that in mind, why selectively choose some mainstream articles to be copied and pasted, and dismissing many of the others? Are they not equally based on unverifiable information? Perhaps, I’m just overly critical, but I just don’t see the point to all this copy and paste. I could understand it if infowars was going to include their own perspectives on the story.

Have any of you even bothered to read any of David Icke’s books or watch any of his 7 hour presentations?
If not, I would dismiss him out-of-hand because that would be the height of ignorance. No one, expcept maybe our rulers, really know what is going on with this planet, where our species comes from or the true nature of reality…so I would bit your tongue before attempting to discredit anyone in the truth movemen. These people are football stars or action heroes. Take the info for what it’s worth and make up your own mind.

Iran would not be destroyed in a few minutes. It took the forces of the Coalition of the willing 5 weeks to break the Iraqi Military. George Bush was not going to support an Israeli strike on Iran since he knew that Russia and China would engaged in economic warfare against the west.

All right. Looking at things logically in the “war” for our minds, it seems that we are not growing fast enough in equivalent to “them” coming out with all these laws, rules, regulations, and upscaled brutality. There are still so many people to “wake up”, but I see there is one thing that will get the people to muster together to the point of believing people like this group who bravely met and had their “down with the regime” conference.
Most people say here and some have even called into Alex Jones’ radio show to say that they are having such a hard time getting others to believe the “truth” stories. Yes, many have “awakened”, but percentage-wise, it is small. There is only one thing that will snap all the nation’s people to finally “get it”, where people who are like this brave group and those handing out “truth” DVD’s or flyers, will be able to be listened to almost immediately. That one thing might happen in the next 40 days or maybe an additional 75 days or so. It was said here by others and has been spoken about for years, starting from the Clinton era before he left office.
The only thing that will snap the entire country into “awakefulness” or realization of the “truth”, is to have Marshal Law, to stop either the presidential election somehow or to stop the transfer of power over to the president elect. All other Constitutional laws have been broken by this regime and the people have accepted it, but it seems that they want to have the Constitutional election. So what we need is to have that Marshal Law which seems to be the only thing that the people are saying that they will accept for stopping an election by the Constitution.
If the election or transition of power is done, then I would tend to believe that we really are in trouble because no one would transfer power, which technically is the same thing as giving oneself up to the authorities for crimes committed, unless that person(s) was assured of a safe haven and if a safe haven is available, that means that whomever is taking over the power position would be condoning all crimes committed and therefore would be just as bad as this regime. That allowance of the transfer of power would then obviously be done for a facade, to help fool the people, making it look like “CHANGE” actually is happening, when it would not be.
MARSHAL LAW (or the stoppage of the presidential CHANGEover) IS OUR SAVIOR that will gather the people together in one fell swoop that is not happening now,
