Ron Paul: Stimulus Packages Will Turn Recession Into A Depression

Texas Congressman Ron Paul has warned that passing the latest proposed economic stimulus package would be akin to pouring kerosene on an already raging fire.
Paul, who is also a member of the House Financial Services Committee, warned that such measures will cause a recession to turn into a full scale depression possibly worse than that of the 1930s.
During a Television interview with CNN, Paul explained why he believes stimulus funding is such a destructive policy.
“It’s because the government is spending it. If the people were spending it it would be fine, but the government never does anything productive. They have to take money from productive individuals and spend it in non productive ways, so it’s just digging a bigger hole, getting us into bigger debt, and that is the problem.” Paul said.
“This stimulus package is going to cost each and every American $6700 of more debt, so how can that be beneficial? If debt was the answer we would of never had a problem.”
“We are doing exactly what we did in the 1930s, we are taking a recession and working very hard to try and turn it into a depression.” The Congressman added.
“What we’re worried about right now, well certainly I am, is that it’s worse than the 30’s because we’re on the verge of destroying the dollar. So if you think the financial crisis is bad, and the financial system isn’t working, wait ’til you find out when the Dollar doesn’t work.”
The Congressman told viewers that only by liquidating debt, allowing the market to operate freely and allowing prices to come down will the problem be corrected.
Paul also spoke to those who have blamed the free market for the downturn and have suggested that deregulation is a primary cause of the financial crisis.
“We never had a hands off approach, that’s the fallacy, and as long as we believe that we will never correct our problem. If you blame Capitalism and free markets and sound money for this then we can’t win the intellectual fight.” Paul urged.
“If you want to regulate, regulate Government agencies, regulate the Treasury, regulate the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve has no oversight, they’re not even permitted to be audited by law, so that’s the kind of oversight we need. The Federal Reserve has committed trillions of dollars to individuals, corporations and banks, they don’t even have to tell us where it’s gone to.” he added.

The Congressman also appeared on MSNBC this morning to discuss the same issue.
One commentator suggested that Paul’s analysis was misguided because “The house is already on fire” and something must be done to put it out.
“You are correct, the house is on fire,” Paul fired back, “and you think you’re putting water on it, but I think you are pouring kerosene on it.” he added.
“We got into this mess by spending too much, borrowing too much and inflating too much. Government was too big and we had too many regulations. We had rejected the market economy for decades, we have rejected the notion of sound money for decades, and we got into a mess this way. So what is the proposal? Spend more money, borrow more money, print more money, regulate more, it makes no sense whatsoever.” Paul asserted.
The Congressman suggested that a more sound approach to the crisis would be to abolish income tax and business tax to get Americans spending, whilst simultaneously cutting overseas spending to cover revenue losses.
“But the problem is no one wants to cut the American Empire,” Paul explained.
“Even Obama’s administration wants to increase spending overseas and increase military spending. As long as you want to run the world empire at a trillion dollars a year, believe me you cannot solve this problem.” he added.

Am I the only one that noticed that Dr Paul got us all revved up, hooting and hollering, cheering him on. We made more noise and raised more money then all the rest then just at the last minute when we felt like all was not lost (poof) Dr. Paul was gone nobody knew where to go or what to do or who to vote for now. Why is it we are able to believe everything is staged in politics except for “Our” candidate? If the whole ordeal wasn’t a “psi op” it should have been. and if it wasn’t it will be next time. Its funny how much we love to be told what we want to hear. That’s the problem with an entertainment society where “fakeness” is the norm and denial comes in the can bottle or tap.

A couple of things:
First: Dr. Paul didn’t go anywhere, he’s still making the rounds on TV, and doing what he can, but the media largely ignores him.
Second: as for who to vote for, who should he have endorsed? McCain? We’re not going to be able to vote ourselves out of this mess as long as the RNC, DNC, and the media can hand pick the only “viable” candidates.
And Third: I’m not saying I agree, but even if Dr. Paul is a covert agent, I don’t care so long as he’s still saying the right things. I don’t think of him as a messiah, and if he changes his tune I’ll change my support for him. We have to stop making politics so much about the politicians, and start making it about the issues again. For now Dr. Paul is saying things that I agree with.

Just a word or two to clarify what really happened in the Ron Paul Candidacy: He didn’t get people revved up and simply leave them with no where to go. It is a fact that the man has demonstrated over and over again FOR DECADES that he is credible and trustworthy. One didn’t have to look far to see where one might go after his run was sabotaged and ignored byt he media generally. If, as most people, one came to know of Dr. Paul and his tireless devotion to the truth and Constitution through word of mouth and or the internet, then it is entirely likely that one would have the curiosity and SELF DETERMINATION to muster the answer to the question: What do we do now?…. You should really do some actually scientific research on haarp rather than listening to the articles talking of danger. Regardless of anything they’re trying to do, most of the things you mentioned are science fiction. We’re nowhere near being able to control the mind indirectly with energy waves. The only effective method so far is drugs and hypnotic therapies. We have no form of weather control. We can do things that have an effect, like nuclear weapons, pollution, or chemical spraying, but we have no control over it, and we definitely have no way of controlling it using radio waves. Same with earthquakes. The only things we have powerful enough to effect tectonics plates is a nuclear weapon, and even then it would have to be buried miles underground on a fault line. Even if they really are trying to control the Northern Lights and the ionic field they’re in, it’s no real danger to us. There’s more energy released in a single bolt of lightning than there is in the entire field at any given moment.
I’m not knocking your opinion. Maybe they are trying to turn us all into zombies, but the science just doesn’t back it up. It’ll be decades, or even centuries before the technology exists for that. Anything they attempt would be a shot in the dark, like that horrible movie, “The Core,” where they trying to control earthquakes and end up disrupting the flow of magma.

An interesting exercise in reverse psychology, given the reaction; I’ll join in as well! Or, perhaps you do genuinely believe that Dr. Paul is a fraud and a functionary for an ‘illuminati agenda.’ In that case, you might consider the logic of the man, not his handshake. I suppose anything is possible, but if there is justifiable paranoia, it is far more likely to have a credible basis in financial derivatives as an intentional virus and a repeat of the opulent greed which caused the fall of the Roman Empire, than in the prospect that this man has any ambitions of world domination. Quite the opposite seems far more likely, if you’re the betting type. The ‘illuminati’ and such, are their own worst enemies, as their earthly wisdom is great enough to manipulate huge resources, but they lack humility – that code of spiritual attitude and comprehension that would free them from limited, mortal premises that they will, in the end, burn themselves, and all who are foolish enough to follow, within.

While Ron Paul does speak obvious truths, he does have ties to Freemasonry. His wife is an Eastern Star and his children are Rainbow Girls. His father was a Freemason and he is part of the John Birch Society. That being said, I dont have a problem supporting the man because for most of his carrer he has been saying things that I agree with. People should simply support him as long as he is expressing views that are similar to your own. If he begins to take his movement in an undesirable direction just stop supporting him. I believe the problem is everyone wants a leader when everyone here needs to try and be leaders.

Actually I disagree, MSNBC is apart of NBC. They always bring Ron Paul in there and try to pin him as a “wack job”. They never agree with him and his personal opinions about our failing government. I appreciate the journalism on this site, it is much needed. I also love this site because you post pretty much anything on here, and it is the only site that allows no censorship. which is great. As opposition to the new global movement, we must ask ourselves What can we do? I think our greatest attribute to society is our ability to voice the other side of the story. Let us be educated though and know all aspects to what we are preaching before we run our mouthes to everyone. This takes away from our reputation and our reputation is our power. Here is my opinion, Free masons recruit the better of society and the ones who have suceeded. As they continue to succeed so does their reputation. Eventually but rarely they will have enough influence to run for office. AS they spend time in office they become under the influence of those that run the worlds affairs. So it is my theory that the Freemasons, skull and bones are only a “minor league” to the Major league. They just sift through so many candidates and choose those with the highest credentials. Lobbyist are the ones that have the “NWO’s” will.

They need someone to articulate a different opinion. Had he not run for pres in 2008 and 1988 he would not be on the air (CNN, PMSNBC, etc) so his voice is counted on to get his views and those of his supporters.

I think the media has Ron Paul for two reasons.

I too am of Native American decent, Warrior at heart and ready to fight along with anyone else that is ready to say enough is enough. This is one of the few times that I agree with Ron Paul is that the more you spend the bigger the hole and how right he is about that one. I know that Ron Paul isn’t made to be president because he has no personality for the job but he is good at economy and should be an advisor along with Lyndon Larouche who is an economist. The only way that things will become better is to allow prices to fall whether housing, clothing, food, etc. everything must come down sooner or later and they cannot remain high or the situation will become a great deal worse and there will be no jobs around for people and then what is going to happen a burden of debt for many generations to come. The woman who was interviewing Ron Paul wondered if we should go back to the standard of living of the 1960’s and oh she hit a wonderful nerve in me – yes if there was a time tunnel I would literally jump into that time tunnel and go back to the good days of the 50’s and 60’s era without a flinch – I am dead serious. I don’t care for the life of today compared to the past – I live in the past and I miss it badly. Young people today don’t know what I am talking about because they didn’t live through those days but I remember as a 58 year old woman – yes there were problems but not like today.

But how do you explain how our government was able to identify the “terrorist” and how they were funded so quickly.
Most governments have no idea who owe they money. If they did, they would place a lien on their property and have a Sheriff sale to collect the amount due. But the government is not efficient at much, so they don’t respond well to anything.

I am not on topic there needs to be some where you can comment on todays show.
I wanted to try and answer the question that Alex didn’t ,only trying to help.
The reason that the building of cities ,high ways and survalence aperatus dose not conflict with elitist plans to depopulate the world by 80% is that it gives the people something to do in the meantime whilst there being exterminated .
These building projects and cultural changes are created by the byrocarasy of the people it is systemic and ulrelated to the elite .The elite do not care what the people do as long as they dont have to do any work ,the humans can do what ever they convince themselves to do .You could equally say for exsample why create a fascist orwellian state if your going to get ride of everyone anyway.We are doing it to ourselves ,what destinguishes them from us is that they know this and understand it and we dont.

Ron Paul is trying to give these people the answer but they are not willing to accept what he has to say. What he is saying is there is no easy way out of this situation. I am in total agreement with Ron, quit spending all this money overseas on the infastructure of other countries and put a majority of that money we save there towards our deficit. Let the states repair their own bridges and roads. Get rid of the income tax, let people keep their own money and spend it the way they see fit. Usually the most simple answer is the correct one. I suggest that everyone begin stocking up on food, water and other supplies to sustain themselves and their families. It is going to be a very rough ride. I think the republicans picked up the wrong canidate for this last election. We are heading for trouble.

Ron Paul’s father was a mason and a lot of the business people join the masons and eastern star as a means to uplift their business in the community. The problem is that they don’t know what the masons are all about until they get up higher in the levels and find out that they are honoring the devil. I can see that Ron Paul is a mason himself or was one. They are all lap dogs to the elite and if they do anything other than that they would be assassinated just like JFK and his brother Robert and others. Ron Paul is intelligent and knows economy but he isn’t completely right. This man lacks the personality to be president and will never see it. This man is in his 70’s and will be way too old in 2012 to be a candidate. You young people don’t realize that as we get older we don’t function the same as the young people. I am a 58 year old woman and sure don’t feel like a 20 year old that’s for sure but I think that I do more than a lot of young people because I am used to harder times and try to keep up my energy but as I go I will lack a lot of energy. There are a lot of things that I disagree with Ron Paul more than I can quote here and I know very well that he isn’t made to lead but to advise.
It is up to young people to turn things around and that is to make businesses just like Gerald Celente is talking about to defeat those banksters and globalists. Take back our world from these no good for nothings. Immigrants have always done this even till today and I see how proud he is of his parents and people like them. It takes a great deal more than education and many come over who can barely read or write but they have the ambition and the drive to get ahead and I have seen that happen. Education today means very little and practically nothing since the system is all wrong and so many come out unable to read, write and be able to spell. Many cannot do simple math. A lot of it is a big waste of money and time.

What I see is evidence that some of these journalists were paying much more attention to the Revolution than we thought and now might be more relunctant than to just brush off his ideas. You know what pisses me off? People whine about how they need an answer to the problem, so you tell them about the Fed scam and how pre-emptive war actually creates the problem. Then you explain that Obama’s doing nothing about these issues, and proceed to brief them on Ron Paul’s policies (but you may have to explain WHO he is, b/c they only watch the Boob Box). You make a compelling argument, and the people you’re talking to seem to understand, but they still can’t except it! they want Obama so bad, and they’re problems solved for them quickly so they don’t have to face the consequences of their apathy. When the government runs a deficit, say of, 400 billion dollars, the bank tells the Treasury to print 400 billion dollars in Federal Reserve Notes. (cash) The FED pays the treasury 230 dollars for every 10,000 notes printed, no matter what the denomination. This pays for the ink, paper and labor.
In addition, the Federal Reserve must secure a pledge of collateral to the face value of the notes. The pledge is by Congress to the Federal Reserve Bank, and the collateral which congress pledges is the land, assets, and the labor of the American people.

Ron Paul speaks a common sense truth. It is hard to accept that we must suffer to make things better but the reality is we must. Suffer now or suffer worse latter is the choice we have been given. I have not been affected directly financially by this…yet. I am sure this will occur eventually and I dread it terribly but unless I magically become wealthy, and I won’t, then this is my lot in all of this. The only thing that gives me hope is that out of this may arise our opportunity to take back our monetary system and restore our rights once and for all. I hope that the tons of needless, unconstitutional, and destructive laws are repealed because they cannot be funded. I hope the drug laws are crushed like prohibition of alcohol was because the only way to beat the drug cartels is to underbid them but that too would require the removal of our politicians on the cartels payroll and the dismantling of the federal drug forces which also profit from them. I hope no one can afford to install any more surveillance cameras and I hope people begin to destroy the ones that are left since they will not be able to afford to replace them. I hope the private prison industry goes bankrupt and the cost of housing non violent drug offenders breaks state economies. I hope the people who were so quick to believe in and vote for their “tough on crime” politicians remember they supported and abetted their own financial ruin and loss of their own liberties. I hope Verichip implants all our politicians so we know were they are. I hope Nancy Pelosi makes Harry Reid use those condoms. God help us if they should have a child. Finally, I hope we all make it through this intact and as bloodless as possible.

Putting conspiracies aside, I have no doubt that President Obama truly wants to try and turn our country around but in listening to thedebate in congress today about the latest stimulus package where all of these construction type jobs are going to be created, two thoughts came to mind:
1-How many out of work Americans will qualify for these construction jobs? For example, I just don’t see a former IT person getting hired to operate a backhoe or other heavy equipment, or a warehouse worker suddenly qualifying for a steel workers job as a welder.
2-I don’t want to sound racist here but this is a legitimate question and concern. Whose to say that the construction companies that get federal or state contracts for the future work won’t be driven by greed and hire illegal immigrants or pay low wages?

I don’t claim to be any economics expert but it seems to me that if the government were to cut each American household a $10,000.00 or $20,000.00 check out of all this bail out money, we the consumers would stimulate the economy a lot more then bailing out banks, insurance companies and Wall Street.
I have yet to hear a politician from either party answer this question. I thought I’d finally hear a politician respond on CSPAN this morining when an angry women from Flint, Michigan asked the democratic congressman why the government doesn’t do what I mentioned in the above paragraph. The bastard yipped and yapped about the first bail out and blah, blah, blah never did answer the callers question and then had the balls to suggest that maybe congress needs to get input from people like the caller, he got input and he danced around the question. By the way, Ron Paul is dead wrong about regulation. All of the deregulation by the republicans over the years is partially to blame for the mess we are in. He is correct about more regulation and accountability on Wall street, the Federal Reserve and the Treasury department.
What I fear is that the republicans are more worried about getting back the majority in both the house and senate beginning in the 2010 mid-term elections and trying to get the presidency back in 2012. If this happens I’m afraid they will finally get ride of healthcare, unions and social security.

- The man has been in Washington for 30 years. He knows damn well eveything that’s going on. He’s not idiot (unlike many of you reading this). He is, in fact, brilliant.
Do you see any other Congressman going even as far as he does? No. Ron Paul has entire backyard full of useless firewood. But rather than burn it all up in one speech, he throws a small log on the fire whenever he thinks he can garnish some attention by doing so. Sorry, but Paul’s plan is the Austrian School plan, which would allow for the very sort of severe money supply contraction that caused the Great Depression.
Such a contraction would inevitably result in a chain reaction of bankruptcies and foreclosures far above the current rate, and hence in a massive transfer of wealth into the coffers of the very criminal bankers who caused this mess in the first place by loaning out countless billions of dollars they didn’t even have.
Austrian School cranks like to call this parasitic wealth transfer a market-based “correction,” when in reality it is nothing more than a fraud-based LOOTING.

Look, Ron Paul does say good things from time to time, but this time he is incorrect. Free flowing market capitalism is a recipe for disaster. In the end, corporations are only out for one thing, increase shareholder profits. The recession is inevitably going to become a depression. What we are seeing now is a ripple effect from deregulating the banking/housing/communications/insurance industries 4-6 years ago. The recession really began roughly five years ago but everyone was in denial. Now that the meltdown is undeniable, the only thing left to deny is the looming depression. Take it from someone at the bottom of the chain, a recent college graduate barely making mininimum wage, the depression is inevitable. Such things move in cycles. The decisions being made right now won’t have a noticeable effect for at least two years, but four is more realistic. To be clear, this stimulus package is not another bailout for a specific sector of society, which I agree were bad ideas albeit ideas from the bush regime. This has been confirmed based on the way the money is being used to give banking executives giant bonuses and to use the banks now partly owned by the government to buy out the banks that didn’t get in on the bailout.
The stimulus package alone will not save us but I do believe it will create more jobs.
What should be on Obama’s agenda is pushing for fair treatment of workers in 3rd world countries so they don’t come to the US thinking of how great it is to be making $5 an hour for a job Americans would be getting paid 3x as much. If they were receiving a fair wage in their own country they wouldn’t be coming here en mass. Right now Americans have to compete with what’s practically slave labor in China and Indonesia. Beyond that, they should consider tax penalties for outsourcing jobs that can be done in the US and tax breaks for employers that only hire American citizens. The only thing I can guarantee is that things will get worse before they get better. Whether things ever improve in this nation is nevertheless uncertain.

I echo the sentiments of a couple different posters when I say Ron Paul was truly the candidate who directly represented “we the people.” Dare I say that his C4L website has really turned into more of an advertising machine, soliciting donations, and merely providing a forum for like-minded individuals. I say this because I joined C4L shortly after its inception. An individual is rendered powerless against mob rule, and it’s my opinion that Ron Paul’s objective was to send a message…and send it he did.

If the Federal Reserve “IS NOT A FEDERAL INSTITUTION” with proper government oversight (Which it is not) WHAT IN THE HELL ARE THEY DOING WITH EVEN ONE TAX PAYER DOLLAR! If you guys doubt Dr. Paul and think he is a CIA agent look at his voting record in congress. Actions always speak louder than words, and it is clear you haven’t done your homework. He is the real deal. Some people believe all we need is 10% of congress to vote like Dr. Paul (constitutionally) and this whole mess would start to turn around. Forget about the president and senators they are a lost cause and the media will always hand pick who they want. If you really want to change this country focus on getting honest congress people elected and we win Period! Also it is vitally important to protest your reps when they betray you. Send emails, call them up, and expose them to everyone you know for what they truly are. Last do what Alex is doing and help people wake up to this false left/right paradigm. you build roads with taxes because everyone should have access to land. you redistribute land and natural resource, not labor and capital wealth. though i would argue that redistributing excessive capital is a good thing because excessive capital is as dangerous as government. but you have to do it in an equal and fair way and not scare away the capital.

As a friend of mine wrote recently: Ron Paul is idiotic when it comes to economics …
1) do nothing = retarded
2) “exactly the same as the 1930’s” = yeah right, we *wish* it’d be!
3) stimulus package will produce another Great Depression = ridiculous … this
won’t cause it, but doing nothing sure as hell would (this will merely line the
pockets of the CEO’s and keep corporations from having to go bankrupt or out of
business, hardly much of a ‘help’ to the millions struggling, but not the ’cause’ of
the next Depression)
4) government isn’t “productive” = most ignorant comment I’ve ever heard, production
conversely almost completely *depends* on governmental support and corporate welfare
5) “we never had a hand’s off approach” = ummm, what was 1999 and the Bush
continuation? Regulation and oversight was slashed to shreds, and they want LESS? They’re
f**king nuts.
6) regulate the Feds = WHO? Corporations? Ron Paul?! I’d say workers and consumers would
be a great regulatory source, but Ron Paul doesn’t think in these terms.
7) “best regulation is through the free market” = ummm, the free market doesn’t and
hardly surprising that Ron Paul gets air play on this topic and Dennis Kucinich
never will exist, as it can’t survive on its own, it’d self destruct almost
instantly (and almost already has!)

I’ve seen a few Alex Jones videos and there is some worthwhile stuff in there –
so I come on the website for a quick look at an article on recession and the blogs read like a picnic in the park between Black Power and the Klu Klux Klan – but probably with a lot less intelligence.
Everybody shooting their mouth off at everybody else about nothing. I’ve got ask you Alex – you’re out there trying to save the world and telling people to buy food etc – But is it really worth saving? Take a look at what your own website has become. Not your fault, I know.
But if this is an example of the human race – then the Illuminati plan to reduce world population to half a billion [aka Georgia Guidestones], might be a good thing. Maybe they should take it a step further and wipe out the lot.

The thing to realize in an economic downturn is that prices actually drop. Food, clothing and shelter become cheap. It’s a lot easier to be poor in bad economic times than it is in good times. People hunker down, become more real, and actually get to know their neighbors. You might gain a temporary roommate – you might just buy someone a beer – but everything gets slower and more immediate.
