Russia May Sell Advanced Air Defense System to Iran

Russia may proceed with plans to sell advanced S-300 air defense systems to Iran under a secret contract believed to have been signed in 2005, a Russian analyst said on Monday.
Commenting on an article in the Sunday Telegraph newspaper saying Russia is using the plans as a bargaining chip in its standoff with America, Ruslan Pukhov, director of Moscow-based Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, said: “In the current situation, when the U.S. and the West in general are stubbornly gearing toward a confrontation with Russia after the events in South Ossetia, the implementation of a lucrative contract on the deliveries of S-300 [air defense systems] to Iran looks like a logical step.”
The U.S. and Israel were alarmed by media reports, which started circulating as early as 2005, on the possible delivery of S-300 surface-to-air missiles to Iran, as these systems could greatly improve Iranian defenses against any air strike on its strategically important sites, including nuclear facilities.
The advanced version of the S-300 missile system, called S-300PMU1 (SA-20 Gargoyle), has a range of over 150 kilometers (over 100 miles) and can intercept ballistic missiles and aircraft at low and high altitudes, making the system an effective tool for warding off possible air strikes.

The issue was again raised in December last year when Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said Russia had agreed to deliver to Iran an unspecified number of advanced S-300 air defense complexes under a previously signed contract.
However, Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation said the issue of the delivery of S-300 air defense missile systems to Iran was not a subject of current or past negotiations.
Israeli defense sources, however, said in July that Iran was expected to take delivery of Russian S-300 air defense systems by the end of 2008.
Pukhov said: “This may be true. While Russia and the West were on good terms, the contract could have been ‘frozen’ for the time being. But now may be the perfect time to move forward with the fulfillment of the S-300 contract.”
According to the Russian analyst, S-300 missiles and previously delivered Tor-M1 missiles would help Iran build a strong network of long- and medium-range ‘defensive rings’ to thwart any attempts to destroy key nuclear facilities in the country.
Moscow supplied Iran with 29 Tor-M1 air defense missile systems in late January under a $700-million contract signed in late 2005. Russia has also trained Iranian Tor-M1 specialists, including radar operators and crew commanders.
“Anyone attempting to threaten Iran with aerial bombardment would have to consider the possibility of strong and effective resistance,” the expert said.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi denied on Monday reports that Tehran had bought S-300 air defense systems from Russia.
“Our missile and technical capability completely depends on the efforts of Iranian scientists,” he said.

I hope Russia gets those systems to Iran soon. Can’t have Israel and the US taking out Iran when it is a key player in beating back US ‘national profiling’. If they’re a middle-eastern country, they must be making nukes! The EU report even said that Iran was only enriching uranium to 3.7 percent, but the US is still perpetuating the lie that Iran is trying to make nukes, which requires around 90%.

Two Points: First the Soviet S-300 air defense missile is a piece of latest technology s---. The turd of a missile is useless in a real fight. The screaming telephone pole will run it’s nose cone up its own ass. Trust me on that one.
Secondly, let Iran build all of the nukes they want. Who are we to say they can’t build nukes? Now the real problem for Tehran is if they allow one or two of those crowd pleasers to find there way to American soil. That blunder will be a bit of problem for Iranians once the atomic signature is traced to Tehran. Without delay the US response will be anything but pretty unless you’re a couple of hundred miles away watching the fireworks.
The end result is the oil supply drops off and gas prices skyrocket like the several dozen mushroom clouds over Iran and the world situation goes in the frigin toilet. The Soviets will have to respond to save face and we have a global fireworks show of monumental proportions! Hey I am up for it! Why not I tired of the bulls--- and cowardice. Lets get it over with once and for all! Folks you got nothing fear for if are afraid than you already dead! Spit in to the eye of terror and terror will fall like a house of cards.

I’d say the most important thing people can do right now is warn their friends and family – no matter how cretinous – that the next terror attack will be blamed on Iran and an attack will be launched. #18 thanks for your post on the end of the world. Probably my biggest pet peeve is when I try to tell people about what is going on and they say well you know the world is going to end. It stops there they turn belly up, do nothing to defend themselves and wait for God to save them!!! I have always said the end of the world will be man made for someone else’s gain.

Have to agrtee with Sherlock, and have been telling all that religion is a creation of the Illumanati and used against them to keep them in line by fear and guilt, and wow they even wrote parts of their plan in their holy books, to keep all in fear, and give you someting to fear like the devil.
Religion is used to control groups of people, and the fun part is that the really faithful will take all the s--- in the world, because they will get to heaven for being good, and that is great for the Illumanati, because if you are willing to submit to a fictionary charactor, well it will be easy to get you to bend to them.
I wish we could have freedom from religion here, that would be nice.

David, I don’t need proof from you and I have no proof to offer. I never ask anyone to prove god’s existance to me and I never try to disprove anyone’s god. I simply acknowlege that I have no idea what happens when we die. As an atheist, my goal is to cherish this experience called life. I’ve studied natural sciences extensively and agree that both matter and energy exist quite possibly forever. So everything we are has always existed and always will in some form or another. In other words, it’s all going to be OK, kind of like before you were born. I become very angry with those who believe in doomsday myths. Before 1945, it wasn’t a problem. Now that nukes have entered the scene, the term self-fulfilling prophecy comes to mind. Is religion a product of the NWO? Who cares? They can certainly use your silly bible as a playbook. You already believe the end is coming, so they’ll scorch a third of the earth. Of course, religious types will be right there to say, “see, the Lord is coming.”
