Russia may sell more air defense systems to Iran

Russia is negotiating the delivery of more air defense systems to Iran despite Western demands for a halt in sales to Tehran over its refusal to stop uranium enrichment, the head of Russia’s arms exporter said Thursday.
“Contacts between our countries [on delivery of air defense systems] are continuing and we do not see any reason to suspend them,” Rosoboronexport General Director Anatoly Isaikin told reporters at the Africa Aerospace & Defence-2008 (AAD-2008) exhibition near Cape Town in South Africa.
The official reiterated that deliveries of Russian anti-aircraft weaponry to Iran were aimed exclusively at increasing its air defense capability and were not subject to international restrictions.

Iran recently took delivery of 29 Russian-made Tor-M1 air defense missile systems under a $700-million contract signed in late 2005. Russia has also trained Iranian Tor-M1 specialists, including radar operators and crew commanders.
The U.S. and Israel, which have consistently refused to rule out the possibility of military action against Iran, were alarmed by media reports, which started circulating as early as 2005, on the possible delivery of S-300 surface-to-air missiles to Iran, as these systems could greatly improve Iranian defenses against any air strike on its strategically important sites, including nuclear facilities.
The advanced version of the S-300 missile system, called S-300PMU1 (SA-20 Gargoyle), has a range of over 150 kilometers (over 100 miles) and can intercept ballistic missiles and aircraft at low and high altitudes, making the system an effective tool for warding off possible air strikes.
The Islamic Republic has conducted several high-profile war games this year, including a three-day series of Air Force and missile defense exercises on September 15-18, while promising swift retaliation in the event of any act of aggression against the country.
Iran is currently under three sets of relatively mild UN Security Council sanctions for defying demands to halt uranium enrichment, which it says it needs purely for electricity generation despite Western accusations that the program is geared toward weapon production.

It’s not the system that matters, it’s the people operating the system that matters. Iraq had Soviet air defense missiles and radars before the first Gulf war, but it didn’t really help them much. The US Air Force and Navy are so much more advanced not just in equipment, but also in training. This was proven again when NATO bombed the Serbs. They (the Serbs) were operating Soviet missiles and radars, and using Soviet designed tactics, and they had no chance. Sure, the Russian missiles are an improved and more modern design, but the USAF and Navy have also improved and come up with better tactics. I’m not for bombing the Iranians, but these missiles mean nothing.

hmmm explain to us then rick, why 2 su27’s recently buzzed a US battle ship
using what the russians claim to be a plasma cloaking system.
the us ship did not pick them up on any radar, until the 2 russian planes, decloaked for a couple of seconds directly above the battle ship, then re-cloaked and disapeared from US radar and tracking
sounds just a tad more advanced then the stealth fighter that relies on an unstable airframe, and geometrical shaped fusilage to defy radar
ill take the plasma cloaking any day of the week lol

Really, then how do you explain they (the Serbs) shooting down 5 NATO jets including the vaunted F-117A stealth fighter? How many military targets did NATO hit during that campaign. All we saw were bridges, trains and the Chinese embassy on fire. NATO did not hurt the Serb military whatsoever. You’re sadly mis-informed.

The S-300PMU1 (SA-20 Gargoyle) export version the Iranians are getting is superior to the U.S. patriot missile defense system. It can track 36 simultaneous targets up to a distance of 150 km including stealth aircraft. The system has anti-jamming measures and can down incoming missiles (such as tomahawks) with altitudes as low as 10 meters. Even the U.S. and Isreali defense planners have said it would make life miserable for an aerial attack. So Rick, the missiles do mean something if it makes the zio-warhawks think twice.

Anything that gets up Bush & the neocon noses is fine by me, I also think that if America was stupid enough to trust Israel (The real terrorist state) with nuclear weapons, then I see no reason why anyone can’t sell nuclear weapons to Iran…
The Russians are right to break these unlawful sanctions imposed by the NAZI cockroach leaders of the west, Iran should up all orders for missile defence and Russia should be happy to supply, lets hope more countries bust these illegal sanctions on Iran, why should a broken and bust nation like America have any say in this worlds business at all.

In 2005 Iran signed a secret contract with Russia to buy 1000 Billion of Australia Uranium. Russia and Iran have a dream of Using the Australian Uranium to strike and evaporate the 29 USA Bases here in Australia with ICBMs. Iran does not care if Australia become dust because 97% of the Australians are Infidels.
