The Irish voted ‘No’ in referendum, shooting down the Lisbon treaty, but many fear that the EU will press on and either ignore the vote, or find alternate routes to affirm the concentration of power.
Police and security kept free speech at bay during a visit by Sarkozy where a number of vocal Irish came to defend their constitution and assert their independence apart from the EU.

Something very striking about the 2nd vid is that there are many over age 40 out in the streets. It’s actually well balanced – you know you have a growing revolution when graybeards take to the streets. I love it. I wish we saw more of this here in the states.

Get a grip, people. Ireland–as in the Republic of Ireland–was a total economic disaster area up until the time they got the big cash injections from the EU so that it would make the Republic of Ireland less of a daunting proposition for integration with the UK funded North, and anyone with any skills emigrated as quickly as possible to the UK and the US. The Irish demand a social contract socioeconomic model which they have absolutely no way to fund without the EU, so Ireland needs the EU a lot more than the EU needs Ireland.

I’ve read the EU constitution and the Lisbon Treaty. Not fun reading, to be sure, but they are there to be read by the democrats who demand the right to run others’ lives and for others to run theirs. EU commissioner Charlie McCreevy, finds John Gresham more rewarding, since his quality of life is assured already, even if Ireland is in or out of the EU.

The thing here is not who wants to hammer it through but that the agreement with Brussels and EU parliament. Now that agreement states that if one member country does not vote for the treaty then THAT TREATY IS NULL AND VOID! The Irish whether they need the EU or not voted NO! So, that should be that in a democratic way of thinking but me thinks it will not be that way for long??

I just feel bad that my country ( Portugal ) has several people in the government that has been attending Bilderberg Group for some years especially Pinto Balsemão which is the half owner of Portugal’s media. While I also hate that the treaty offering came from Portugal PM Jose Socrates and named Lisbon treaty is just outrageous. We portugueses are just doomed just like the rest of EU countries that signed for this stupid treaty. The last time I looked, Sarkozy is not stopping the proud French from working more than 35 hours a week, is not stopping them from demanding wildly generous retirement packages consistent with the steam locomotive engineers of the 1950’s, is not stopping them from declining an air-ambulance for a sprained ankle, etc., etc. In other words, the proud French are about as sincere as their Irish ‘no’ counterparts who queue up for the EU handouts and the possibility to overrule a national court ruling at the European Court, if a ruling does not go their Human Rights’ way.
