On Sunday, May
13, 2001, the Second Amendment Sisters (SAS) will hold a rally supporting
the basic human right of self-defense. The rally will be held from
5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the South steps of the Capitol in Austin.
"This year,
Texas is facing several house bills that will affect firearms owners
both in negative and positive ways," stated Melanie Cook, Second
Amendment Sisters Texas Coordinator.
One of these
bills involves the so-called "gun show loophole". and would require
lawful private sellers to find a licensed firearms dealer to run
a records check on would-be buyers, in order to sell their personal
firearms which, by the way, would have to be in the possession of
the dealer. If the sale is not completed, the dealer would then
be required to run an NICS check on you before returning your firearm.
On the flipside,
house bill 2656 would require officers in elementary schools to
teach students the NRA's Eddie Eagle Gun-safe accident prevention
program.
House Bill 2784,
another positive bill, would only allow reporting of weapons related
offenses by FHL holder (or violations of the Right to Carry law.)
This bill would make it impossible for the gun-control advocates
to confuse the public by using unfair and incorrect statistics.
The Second Amendment
Sisters are continuing to defend the basic human right of self-defense
by holding rallies in states across the country on this Mother’s
Day. Our forefathers fought for our rights, let's honor them by
defending those rights! Speakers will be telling their personal
stories of survival. There will also be speakers there with proven
statistics and facts you won’t want to miss.
