The Senate voted Thursday to preserve language banning taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood in a bill gutting Obamacare.
The Senate voted Thursday nearly along party lines, 54-46, to defeat an amendment sponsored by Sens. Patty Murray, D-Wash., and Ron Wyden, D-Ore. The vote means the Senate bill will retain language blocking federal funding for Planned Parenthood, which provides healthcare and abortion services.
The provision to strip out tax dollars for the organization was championed by Republicans after a series of videos was released that depicted Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue.
The language in the Obamacare bill calls for redirecting the tax money to other women’s’ health programs.
