Senator Gordon Smith’s company accused of hiring illegals

Oregon Senator Gordon Smith is accused of hiring illegal immigrants to work at his company Smith Frozen Foods in Eastern Oregon.

The senator and his wife, own the business in Weston.

Smith denied all the charges Wednesday afternoon, made by the newspaper Willamette Week. Smith says that the claims are nothing more than baseless hearsay.

Reporter Beth Slovic says she talked to tax accountants and a public defender, who confirmed that some employees at the business are undocumented workers.

Smith has said in the past that the U.S. should crack down on illegal aliens.
