Shooting of Prominent IMF Economist Baffles Police

Ashoka Mody has been identified in an email to his fellow employees at the International Monetary Fund as the man shot Thursday night around 7:30 in his Bethesda garage in the 6800 block of Millwood Road.
Mody is currently the assistant director in the European department and an expert in economic development and international finance.
He is also known in his Kenwood Park community as a good neighbor, and those who live near him are stunned that he would be the target of a gunman.
Police say the 54-year-old remains in critical condition after he was shot in his garage Thursday night, before he even had a chance to get out of his vehicle.

First, why do you guys always use such weird handles? If you want to make anonymous jabs, couldn’t you at least use a more sensible name? Second, the percentage of commenters to listeners is probably 10,000 to 1. I mean, really, most of the finks commenting here don’t even listen to Alex’s show. They’re just here to rant, because that’s what their mommies and daddies always did. They don’t know anything different. They’ve never been part of any solution, so the only thing they can do is drool on anyone trying to make a stand.

I’ve done a little googling on this guy and from what I’ve seen, his papers on economy and government seem to favor toward free market principles rather than government control.
Seems interesting. I’m going to dig a little deeper on this, see if their are any red flags that might pop up.
It seems fairly obvious just from the article that this was a hit. Doesn’t look like a robbery gone wrong, or some kind of disagreement.
It wouldn’t surprise me at all either way if it were a government hit or some fringe loon.
Masked guy kills him in his garage before he could get out of his car. He was probably being tailed from work or somewhere, and the gunman followed him home and killed him there.

It looks like he was in an important position in the World Bank. Involved in the finance structuring of specific projects. Something about Project Finance where he deals with assessing debt risks and such of projects.
I’m no expert, but it sounds to me like he would be in the position to know something somebody might not have wanted him to know. Maybe he followed the money on some kind of government project, didn’t like what he say, and threatened to say something.
This is speculation, of course. But it wouldn’t surprise me at all if this were the case. I’m going to keep researching this guy.

Some people are saying “maybe he was a whistle blower”, I say yah right. None of these people have shown any backbone, any desire to do right, they would only blow the whistle if it benefited them directly. I’m with the people saying SCREW HIM! The less of these bastards walking the earth the better.
