Media picks up story, ignores thousands of racist tweets from Obama supporters

A story about a Chicago shopkeeper who was labeled a racist simply for posting signs in his store window critical of Barack Obama has garnered widespread media attention while thousands of racial Twitter messages posted by Obama supporters continue to be ignored by the mainstream press.
Sam Wolfson, owner of the String-a-Strand bead shop on North Lincoln Avenue, posted hand-written messages criticizing Obama for bowing to the king of Saudi Arabia as well as his infamous “you didn’t build that” comment.
In response, a vandal scrawled the word “racist” on the shop window in red lipstick.
“To say I’m racist because I do not like this president, that’s wrong. I voted for him the first time,” Wolfson told NBC Chicago. “I voted for him, but I feel he did not do the country justice.”
The notion that criticizing or merely refusing to vote for Obama is a racist act has become increasingly prevalent in the last few months, most recently after the debate on Tuesday night when MSNBC host Chris Matthews accused Romney voters of being fueled by “racial hatred.”
Back in August, Matthews’ MSNBC colleague Lawrence O’Donnell claimed that Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell’s joke that Obama played too much golf was a racist jibe.
Last year, MSNBC regular Richard Wolffe mused that Republican opposition to Obama making a speech on a date that clashed with a presidential debate was down to “the color of his skin”.
During a panel discussion on MSNBC, participant Touré Neblett claimed that using the word “angry” in a negative context when criticizing Obama was also racist.
MSNBC also ludicrously accused the Associated Press of indulging in racism by accurately transcribing an Obama speech in front of the Congressional Black Caucus.
After the Associated Press correctly transcribed Obama’s dropped g’s, MSNBC aired a debate segment asking whether the decision not to “clean up” Obama’s words was “racist”.
Back during the Obama Joker poster era, when depictions of the President as the fictional character out of Batman were deemed racist by the establishment media despite identical images being produced of Bush as the Joker for years before, MSNBC host Carlos Watson insinuated that calling Obama a “socialist” was secret code for a racist slur.
In a segment on Hardball, Chris Matthews and his guests also attempted to claim that merely using the word “Chicago” to describe the President’s roots was a racist slur.
Aside from NBC Chicago, CBS News also picked up the story about the “racist” shopkeeper as well as WBBM Newsradio.
However, those same news outlets were not interested in thousands of tweets from Obama supporters in which they labeled Mitt Romney and his supporters “cracker,” “honky,” along with other racial slurs.
Nor were they interested in a similar-sized deluge of online posts from Obama supporters threatening to riot and assassinate Mitt Romney if Obama lost the election.
When a few old white guys hung empty chairs in their gardens in reference to Clint Eastwood’s RNC speech, it became a national news story. But in the aftermath of thousands of Obama supporters expressing their intention to cause mayhem and racial violence if Obama loses, the silence from the corporate media has been deafening.
