National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden handed in his application for “temporary asylum” to Russian authorities on Tuesday, citing reasons Moscow should grant the 30-year-old former security contractor protection.
He gave the application to a special Russian migration official in the transit zone of Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport, where he has been for more than three weeks, Anatoly Kucherena, a Kremlin-connected lawyer who is advising the U.S. fugitive, said in an interview on Rossiya-24 state television.
The lawyer said he spent hours at the airport late Monday and Tuesday helping Mr. Snowden prepare the 15-to-20 page application.
