Obama administration officials used a White House roundtable and Democratic forum with South Texas law enforcement officers Wednesday to refute Republican claims that Mexican drug cartels have turned the U.S.-Mexico border region into a war zone.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said collaboration between federal, state and local law enforcement agencies is working to keep border communities safe, while facilitating commerce.
“Protecting communities along our borders is vital to our homeland security, as well as economic prosperity,” Napolitano said.
