The driver of the train that crashed in northern Spain, killing 78 people, will appear before a judge on Sunday on suspicion of manslaughter.
Francisco Jose Garzón Amo, 52, was at the controls when the train slammed into a concrete wall as it approached Santiago de Compostela. He reportedly shouted moments before the crash “I’m at 190 (kmph) and we’re going to derail!”
The driver has not yet given a reason for the excess speed, and it is not clear why the train was travelling at double the speed limit.
