Congress has quietly used fiscal 2008 legislation on military construction to signal that it plans on a long-term military presence in Afghanistan.

In the recently approved supplemental funding bill for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, legislators approved construction of a $62 million ammunition storage facility at Afghanistan’s Bagram Air Base, where 12 planned “igloos” will support Army and Air Force needs.

“As a forward operating site, Bagram must be able to provide for a long term, steady state presence which is able to surge to meet theater contingency requirements,” the Army said in requesting the money.

When he initially sought the funds last year, Adm. William J. Fallon, then commander of U.S. Central Command, described Bagram as “the centerpiece for the CENTCOM Master Plan for future access to and operations in Central Asia.”

In another sign that U.S. troops will be there a long time, the Army requested, and Congress provided, $41 million for a 30-megawatt power plant at Bagram. It is capable of generating enough electricity for a town of more than 20,000 homes.

On the other hand, Congress eliminated the Army’s request for $184 million to build power plants at five bases in Iraq. Those are to be among the final bases and support locations where troops, aircraft and equipment will be consolidated as the U.S. military presence is reduced.

In his testimony last year, Fallon said: “As smaller contingency operating sites are closed and forces are consolidated on contingency operations bases, the latter will need significantly more electricity.” At present, the military uses diesel generators to power the bases.

But Congress “did not want to do anything in Iraq that seemed long-term, and the power plants would have taken up to two years to complete,” said one Senate staff member familiar with the decision who spoke on the condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to speak for lawmakers.

The funding plan also shows preparations to shut down Iraqi military facilities. Money was approved to build landfills, at $880,000 apiece, at five forward operating bases scheduled to be closed, including ones at Fallujah and Ramadi.

The Soviets planned to stay a long time. It didn’t work out that way. When will they ever learn. The mid east and central Asia has seen the rise and fall of mighty empires for thousands of years. One day archeologist’s will dig up U.S. artifacts and wonder, what were they thinking?. Will we be another conquering empire that falls due to the decadence, corruption and greed of its rulers?. I’m afraid so.

We’ll be in Afghanistan and Iraq as long as it takes to fight Iran.

    3. WEREFEAT Says:

The war in the Middle East is all about protecting Israel. The US will be in the Middle East forever, or until the stupid Americans figure it out, which, apparently is about ten thousand years.

    4. EddietheKid Says:

Set up all the bases you want in Afghanistan, but get the hell out of Iraq. We had a right to go
to Afghanistan, and it makes sense to set up shop there for future Mideast problems, but it makes
no sense to stay in Iraq because we’re only there for oil.

How surprising- NOT. We got forces everywhere. That’s what happens with “Team America”. I garauntee you, all the kids who will be deployed the longest, are the ones who answered “NO”, when tested with the question “would you confiscate guns from American citizens is ordered”?

      End of Time?

Are you sure “we are quite some distance …from the end of time’? Jesus said: “But of that day and hour no one knows, no, not the angels of Heaven, but the Father alone. As in the days of Noah, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For, as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, even till that day in which Noah entered into the ark, and they knew not till the flood came and took them all away, so also shall the coming of the Son of man be” (Mt 24:36-39).

Today people are ‘marrying and giving in marriage,’ that is a very great number of people all over the world are ‘living together’ pretending to be married, homosexuals are ‘marrying,’ and so forth. The governments of the world no longer know what is truth, and they have the populace pay for the perversity of others (abortion, contraceptives, etc). The world of sin is multiplied.

Understand that the angels have been pouring out their bowls of wrath upon the earth for many decades now. You see the increases of cancer, the return of TB, the spread of AIDS, and a great number of other ‘incurable’ diseases, because these diseases now resist the vaccines and medicines which we have. AIDS is an example of God’s wrath.

On another front, the Muslim threat is greater than most people think. The Book of Revelation (Apocalypse) says: “I saw from the mouth of the dragon, and from the mouth of the beast, and from the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs. For they are the spirits of devils, working signs, and they go forth unto the kings of the whole earth, to gather them to battle against the great day of the Almighty God. Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watches and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.” (Apoc 16:13-15). These Muslims are in every country of the world with their terrorist cells, ready to strike when the word is given to them. The Saudis own most of Washington DC, as well as a great number of major buildings around the USA. The ‘Unholy Alliance’ which is the ‘eighth’ king has veto control of the UN, and they are aligning with the OPEC nations, as well as all countries from N. Korea, China, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Libya, etc. The net is closing, and Europe and USA are afraid to stir the sleeping bear!

“And there shall be in all the earth, says the Lord, two parts in it shall be scattered, and shall perish, but the third part shall be left therein. And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and I will try them as gold is tried. They shall call on My Name, and I will hear them. I will say: ‘Thou are My people, and they shall say: ‘The Lord is my God.’” (Zc 13:8,9).

You see quite readily how the Lord is calling the Christians to wake up! The divided house of Christianity will be rocked to he very foundations and then only 144,000 will be able to live without fear during the Great Tribulation, which is already past the doorstep, it is in the doorway!
