Stewart to Dobbs: Your views are ‘abhorrent, wrong, but consistent’

Jon Stewart greeted former CNN anchor Lou Dobbs, an outspoken opponent of illegal immigration, with a Mexican Mariachi band Wednesday on The Daily Show, before talking to him for 24 minutes about his views, CNN, and politics.
“Lou Dobbs! What the hell happened?” opened Stewart, wasting no time asking Dobbs about his abrupt departure from CNN.
“What happened is CNN and I decided that we would be going different directions,” replied Dobbs. “John Klein, the president of CNN told me point blank that the network was going to move away from advocacy journalism, that I practice, and move toward something he called ‘middle of the road’ journalism.”
Dobbs’ views have earned him harsh criticism in recent years, especially from Hispanic groups, as a result of his increasingly fervent admonishment of undocumented immigrants. He’s also been scolded this year for repeatedly suggesting Obama should prove he really was born in the United States, despite the fact that his U.S. birth certificate has been verified by numerous sources.

“As you know, I’m not exactly neutral on a lot of issues, and that wasn’t working for me,” Dobbs admitted.
Stewart sympathized with the growing need for media figures to have a viewpoint: “In this environment, you have to take a position — maybe it’s not liberal, maybe it’s not conservative — but it has to be for authenticity” in order to avoid “gray, flavorless journalism,” said the comedian. But he didn’t hesitate to slam Dobbs for his views, albeit in a lighthearted tone.
“I do respect you because your views, however abhorrent and wrong, have always been consistent,” he told the former CNN anchor. Dobbs smiled and laughed, joking: “I deeply appreciate that, Jon.”
The two went on to discuss the increasing political divisiveness and partisanship in the United States during the Bush years, which has continued — if not risen — under Obama. Dobbs insisted that the conservative antagonism toward Obama has been genuine populism, while Stewart argued it’s mostly because he’s a Democrat.
“There’s a fear out there that seems irrational,” said Stewart.
“Part of that fear certainly is,” Dobbs conceded, adding that “part of the fear is simply catching up with the events of some years ago — say, four or five years ago.”
“Why do they always catch up to the fears during Democratic administrations?” asked Stewart. “It feels like all the people that want limited government really just want government limited to Republicans,” he said, to applause from his audience.

“All men are created equal” means we need to take care of everyone?
I thought it meant all men were able to do what they choose. To empower themselves, to follow their own path. To accomplish what they can by their own talents. To be freed from the yoke of a king, or a bank of England, or a mercantile system. To play fair and get ahead. Freedom.
The intent of all men are created equal was to dispel the myth that man must be governed by kings or nobles that are better than everyone else. That were ‘born’ into and given the position by GOD. In other words no one is born into a higher life long rank, everyone is able to move up.
To take care of everyone is collectivism. And collectivism only works in homogenized societies like Sweden where the people are closely genetically related. Collectivism works when you support the members of the community because they are an extended part of you, and you insure your success and propagation by helping them live another day.
America is NOT Sweden.
And someone must inform John that the health bill does nothing to help people. It is a big-fat TAX BILL. It just puts more taxes on the backs of the middle class. That is not fair or equitable.

Stewart probably read Yvette Cabrera’s column in the Orange County Register before he conducted this interview. Cabrera is exuberant over Dobb’s defeat by a Latino influence of the MSM. She stated Dobb’s demise was because of his negative stance on immigration. Not illegal immigration. Just, immigration. Cabrera must be meaning by her discourse on the matter that no illegal immigration exists. However, once again, it’s no surprise. It’s MSM, afterall.

Two Thumbs up for Jon Stewart ! Although he disagreed with a few things Lou Dobbs had to say , AT least Jon Stewart showed 100 % class on keeping a conversation , a conversation . One of the problems with Stewart acting as pundit is he perpetuates a “sides” model. “Why does this only happen when Dems are in office?” cries Stewart. Keeping the NWO on track requires a different tact with BHO as POTUS.

I watched this yesterday on tv. First of all, I really used to like Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert, but I can’t stand them anymore! Comedy Central, which has been getting less funny lately, is owned by CBS. Stewie is just a company man. That’s all. If you’ve ever been to these studios, you can just walk in to any of these stupid shows and take a seat. You cheer when the light flashes and you clap when the light flashes. It’s all contrived. I like how Jon Stewart insinuated everyone against Obama’s policies are ‘crazies’. Just like in Communist Russia anyone who was against communism was put in phyciatric hospitals called Psikhushkas. Psychiatric hospitals were often used by the authorities as prisons in order to isolate political prisoners from the rest of society, discredit their ideas, and break them physically and mentally; as such they were considered a form of torture.

I have experienced 2 western countrys and the Mexicans have killed the average wage in America, but you dudes will insist on employing them. Mexican food is great but I hope they use running water in the kitchens to wash their hands. Coming back to NZ was like a load was lifted after living in Florida for years, no more fear of police, they are out of control. Women are taught not to get into police cars because “they will try to date you” rape you more like. It is a police state to the max there but yous are used to it so dont notice, it wont take much to shift to martial law there since it already kind of is. I genuinely fear for the s---storm that is going to rain down on my American friends, all it will take is a bad food growing season in the corn belt.

In the opening post, a reader makes a valid point and is quickly and brutally chastised. Unfortunately, this type of behavior is the norm on this website. Instead of debating the readers point of view, as any rational, educated, and civil person would do the reader is cursed and defiled and his point of view ignored. It is for this very reason that I cancelled my prisonplanet.tv membership; I can no longer support these “out of control” user opinions. I have asked repeatedly for the removal of these messages, and Alex has even suggested that he may do so while on air, but unfortunately he has not. I will reinstate my membership if these messages are put into their proper place (a bulletin board forum) or removed completely. I will not be associated with such trash!

People, not Christians, or Jews, but people have caused damage. Small minded radicals can attempt to label violent acts and crimes against humanity as religious based, but it in the end religion is just the scapegoat for our lack of responsibility. Christian or not, a common moral standard keeps people from violence. If I am violent, I cannot be sincerely a Christian. http://www.hardrite.com

I support the protection and regulation of a countries borders, something required in any democracy. This includes building the wall on this side of the border and deporting undocumented immigrants. But if we support the rule of law, Constitution and moral law , then we should also return the lands stolen to their rightful owners.
How can we talk of upholding the law while retaining southwestern USA and Florida, brazenly stolen from their Mexico and Spain? It is amazing that people will so unashamedly defend the obrders of stolen land!
Such inconsistent positions bring only disgrace and ridicule to those who hold it.

So? Spain stoled that land from Indians. Spain ceded to land to Mexico that Mexicans were perfectly willing to take; and then the US took the land from them.
You want to live in a perfect world? Good luck! My advice is put a gun to your head and pull the trigger.
I support America because I believe it’s a better system than Mexico or Spain. It’s pointless to go back and try to rectify things that happened 100, 200 or even 300 years ago. Unless you’re Marxist and you’re looking for a reason to overthrow the Constitution anyway.

Dobbs recently said shots were fired at his home- turned out to be one, and it wasn’t from nearby (Dobbs didn’t say he heard it fired) and it hit the vinal siding and fell to the ground it had so little energy left! The New Jersey State Police said right at the begining they believed it may have been a hunter.

Thanks for the info. No one ever complains that there are too many brown people in Mexico. It’s always that there are too many white people in the United States. Our nation and civilization are under attack. I don’t blame our enemies for evying and hating us, or of accusing us of theft (however specious these claims may be). But we need to be sensible and to address this situation as it is, in truth.

Jon is correct that “the right” has taken up this fear of tyranny thing with Obama’s election. However, Ron Paul and his many millions of supporters have been saying this for a very long time and all through the Bush administrations. We Paultards have been antiwar since the very, very beginning and continue to be. Ron Paul was vocal in his opposition to very all of Bush’s initiatives – the war on terror, the patriot act, the invasion of Iraq and the continued war in Afghanistan. There is a lot of hypocrisy on the right, but there is also on the left. Only libertarians are consistent and principled. If that were not so the left would be out in the streets now protesting the wars and the escalation and Obama’s endorsement of the worst provisions of the patriot act.
