Ten US soldiers killed in Afghanistan

In one, hundreds of insurgents attacked a pair of isolated outposts in eastern Afghanistan, killing eight US soldiers and several Afghan policemen in the deadliest battle in 15 months. Scores more Afghan policemen were reportedly captured by the Taleban.
In the other an Afghan policeman opened fire on the American soldiers with whom he was working in central Wardak province, killing two and injuring three.
It was unclear whether the policeman was working for the Taleban or simply ran amok but the attack fuelled the distrust that many Nato soldiers already feel for the Afghan security forces that they are supposed to be working with and training as part of the coalition’s eventual exit strategy.

easier said than done. soldiers are brothers, we know eachothers families, children and in some cases their hopes and dreams. you go there to help protect the man next to you, not to murder innocent people. we’ve all seen the videos where soldiers shoot at cars and homes and people for no reason, just remember that is not all of us. im set to deploy to afghanistan the 26th of this month, im going to support our troops, not our so called leadership.

No one like to compare Afghanistan to Vietnam but having fought in Vietnam between 1970 and 1975 (yes 4-1/2 tours) and as a military adviser for 2 years in Afghanistan between 1977 to 1979. I believe I know a little about what I am saying.
We can not “win” in Afghanistan. End of story.
Why you ask? What do I know that our generals in charge do not know? Believe me they know we can not win it is the political leaders who will not listen to our military (as usual). It boils down to one simple statement I have said in many “white papers” on the subject. “An enemy which will not be defeated, can not be defeated”. The Afghanistan people are tribal by nature and not beholden to any central government or rule. They do not want a central government, this is how they are raised, this is their culture as well as their religion and way of life and they will violently resist any attempt to change it.
Could we “win”? Yes but not without the use of Nuclear weapons and that is not going to happen. What if we use more troops like in Iraq? It would not matter they (the Afghan people) do not want to change, General McChrystal is right about one thing, when we kill 1 insurgent 20 more come to the fight, their fathers, brothers, cousins and anyone else they knew. During Vietnam the term “Winning the Hearts and Minds” was used. Well that worked well didn’t it?
All that will happen in Afghanistan is that we will “stabilize” a small area around the capitol and announce “we have won”. As soon as we leave a Civil War will break out and the country will descend into chaos. Then we will build another monument to those brave Americans lost in yet another failed military venture.

That is why the majority of our military is deployed overseas, so that they cannot assist the citizens in an uprising. Having been in Afghanistan now for 8 months with the National Guard, I can say this war is completely justified. I was going to college, until I realized that the liberals have no idea what they are talking about.
Where were all of you after September 11th, when we gave the Taliban an ultimatum to hand over Osama?
Vet is right. To all of you bashing our military, I believe all of you will turn in your weapons and walk straight into the FEMA camps. Nobobdy resisted in Katrina. Everyone brags that when the government comes to get your weapons, you’ll be ready. Ha. Right.

There is not enough natural gas to make it worthwile to fight for the resourses of Afghanistan. The Soviets capped hundreds if not thousands of wells up north which could provide much of the energy the people need. They are so poor the majority of grazable land is eaten to the roots. the people got to walk up to the mountains to cut whatever weeds they can find to heat their water so they don’t die. they look like ants walking with a 6′ round bundle on their backs. These people are so tribal they can not even secure/maintain a natural gas pipeline within tribal/war lord areas. The only thing they hate worse than the idea of a National Afghan Government/Army is the dirty Kafir. The massive amounts of copper and other resourses are pledged to the Chi-Coms which we are building roads for them now so they can exploite.
To give you an idea how primitive the culture is, the Afghans spend 3 to 4 years building a rock/mud 15 to 20 foot wall with steel doors around their home compounds BEFORE they build their house inside. They don’t even trust their OWN tribal members.
Get the US out of the UN and the UN out of the US AND get the US out of the ME and the ME out of the US! DRILL and BUILD NOW! No more Blood and Treasure for OIL, let them drink their OIL!
