Tent-City Residents Issued Moving Papers

Sacramento Police were busy today passing out decrees to the citizens of tent city telling them to move out by April 15th. “Any items not removed will be considered abandoned and disposed of accordingly.” stated the one page document. “Move to Shelter by: 4-15-09 WED” was hand written at the bottom of the page. What alternatives for shelter do the Tent Citizens have? The Cal-Expo shelter touted as a solution on several local news reports has been full for some time and has a waiting list. That will leave many of over 500 residents without a solution. Most tent-city residents have too many possessions to store at the bus depot storage lockers. Motorhome Dave a nine month resident was selling off some of his possessions in a yard sale in order to rent a storage unit. He thinks the mayor and governor are just trying to mitigate the public relations nightmare that Oprah caused. Another resident, Bill who has unsuccessfully tried to get transitional housing will try his luck across the river, which is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Parks and Recreation and could result in $100 illegal camping ticket. As of now the City of Sacramento has given a large population of homeless two days to find a home.

Two days is not nearly enough time to find housing, even in this soft market, rental housing is not easy to come by, nor is it cheap. Iowa standards of course, probably 15 times worse in California.

the police are mere appetizers as the hungry move on to the the main course behind the gated communities, just beware when dining on the rich of the plastic parts, breast implants are not edible and don’t forget your references and a 30.00 non-refundable fee for each rental you even consider applying for. Even if there were plenty of rentals, who’s going to rent to someone with no job, no money? I think someone needs to check into this law, and when it was put on the books. It just seems funny that these folks were not bothered by police before if it was the LAW.

If there were more God loving people out there instead of those who love to hate God and critisize religious people, maybe more of these homeless people could be helped! When is the last time you brought a homeless person food or invited them into your home?

Actually statistically atheists and agnostics are about 3 times more charitable than religious folk, and whats worse most religious people just give money to their church thinking that they’re helping and while yes many churches are helping out a good majority of the money is squandered and sent up the chain. My buddy who is a pastor had his wife threatened by police while passing out sandwiches
and fruit to the homeless with her children. She was told what she was doing was illegal.
Later on they found out that they needed a permit from the city, and that it used to be 100% illegal to give food to a homeless person in JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA.

Look here preachers..Timmy makes a good point, if not entirely valid. I am going to generalize, but these people are probably lazy, unemployable, unclean people. That does not make them ‘bad’ people in my opinion, but in our society they are. They have rejected society so soceity has rejected them. In Vancouver we have a homeless and drug problem that is off the charts. You will all bear witness to this during the 2010 olympic games that have gone billions over budget(so far).
But ya, if they want to live in a tent they should be allowed. Imagine if just a fraction of the bailout trillion dollars went to build modern, effecient homeless shelters (not FEMA camps). Instead were paying for AIG to go on golf weekends to Phoenix. Oops, by we, I mean you, im from Vancouver.

I believe it is a “we”. All my life Ive heard claims of certain rights, certain liberties as well as a government for / by / of the people. And this statement has been in existence how long ? A long long time. Just like the Federal Reserve Act has been in existence a long time.

I take offense to ignorant racial comments. Native Americans are not stupid people. I work very hard for everything that I have and I appreciate the respect I’m shown by all types of people who know me. I am blessed with being Native, and I enjoy being fair to everyone I know. Allow me to point out that 99% of everything you’ve learned about what happened is not accurate because the “winners” write the history books. There are plenty of college professors and researchers who are aware of the facts and know that the fighting between Indian Nations was a direct result of being pushed into other tribes’ territories. Prior to the arrival of the Europeans, neighboring Nations respected each other’s territory. Here I still see areas of wilderness being leveled to make way for new houses – I don’t know who’s going to live in them – but for weeks afterward I see deer and other wildlife wandering around these areas looking confused and I think of how my ancestors felt the same way. Now it’s happening to the middle class, they’re being pushed back and I feel bad for them. Where is the place that will be left for them to go? Sickness is what hit the Native people the hardest and what few people were left were hunted down like animals and forced either into camps or into hiding, in the end 95% of the Native population was gone. It’s nothing new for the U.S. Government, and there are always imaginative ways to spread sicknesses, so be careful. Your best interests are not at heart and now the citizens of America are in the same boat as the Native Americans were at the birth of the United States. I don’t think anyone deserves it. I know that all the Native people here have been trying to help people, whoever they may be, sometimes simply by putting together sack lunches and handing them out under bridges to whoever is hungry. We don’t just help other Natives, our Elders have told us that there is ugliness coming and it will affect all people. We don’t want anyone to suffer. If you ever stand before me hungry, I’ll share whatever I have with you. That’s what human beings do.

I believe treaties do have a place in this World. I also believe ’sound’ laws are a necessity. Laws & treaties do have a purpose in societies just as contracts do. Contracts & treaties are instruments in which an agreement is reached; kind of like how a mortgage operates.
When laws & treaties are cast aside after they were agreed upon in ‘good faith’, that does lead to a very crooked path and victims. I do not speak of the US ( America ) only. If the entire World operates under lack of integrity and hoensty, all would change very quikly..as we are seeing.
Praying is not going to help. The Universal / Divine Creator is not listening. The more people pray, the worse it gets. Praying may give comfort but there will be no response.

My ancestors that came here in the 1750’s didn’t kill the natives or fight with them, they worked with and along side of them, if my grandma is to be belived on family history, there are couple of generations way back in the woodpile that were natives from the Mohawk nation and Iriquois- so I have no animosity toward natives and I gotta say, there are alot more positives about their culture than this present one. I’ll happily go there when they finally shut down my apartment complex and boot us all out on the street. The hunting I bet will be a hell of alot better than state lands.

Although I agree that the city is wrong for telling these people to leave, that poor cop was just doing his job….I’m sure he has a family as well who are worried about their well being also. Actually you wouldn’t be able to do that. People can not live on any land in this country without being in a govt. approved “subdivison”. That means OSHA inspections, structural regulation, paved roads, utilities, etc. It would be considered an illegal commune, and would get busted up very quickly. Just watch the “Garbage Warrior” documentary to see what I’m talking about. They wanted to build their own houses on their own land, and were prevented from doing so by the state. Yes, and even if you do own the land outright, property taxes go on forever, not to mention eminent domain. Friends of mine were forced to sell off their land becuse they owned too many acres inside the city limits. They had been rural people and the land had been in their family a long time. The city grew up around them and things got re-zoned.

People being homeless is nothing new.Today there just more people who can’t pay the high cost for any kind of houseing.I was homeless back in the 80’s and I know what it like to be waken by the police and move on or go to a shelter and refuse to go to a shelter,I just found someplace else to sleep.The people are in tent city in this country are good people with bad luck and no help from the city or state.I was homeless myself and I used to live out of my car.Going to a gas station to wash up and go to the coffee shop for food.My job I had I was able to shower everyday.You guy that wants to live in the tent then do it,just find someplace where the police can not find you.Try to find a wooded area until you can get on your feet.

The only way to combat this shit is to get together and coin our own money. A solution. Make it partly from silver or gold so that there is intrinsic value which makes it harder for the money manipulators to control. Each with an equivalent of, say $.95 worth of silver? How about Freedom dollars? Then promote this ‘local’, ‘non-legal tender’ currency to buy local products. The ONLY way to restore main street and slow the banking takeover of America. An underground or black-market economy is already flourishing, why not navigate away from the dollar, en-mass and make it ‘mainstream’? Why not use a platform like Jones’ to promote solutions such as this, ACTUALLY making a difference vs. simply stirring up the crazies.
My only complaint against Jones is that he puts so much effort into exposing the corruption, lies and who’s behind the mask but is light on offering real solutions to combat this supposed tyranny. Too bad he couldn’t begin organizing this mass of followers by offering real solutions instead of simply stirring up the crackpots and crazies.
Secondly, where does all the money go from his books and movies? A real, tride-and-true revolutionary would not be hoarding and enriching himself with the proceeds of his message! Instead, he would be promoting solutions and putting his money where his mouth is… Beyond this, he is simply an entertainer, like many others. Jones- take a cue from MoveOn.org. They solicit members and promote an agenda with the proceeds! They are actually influencing policy-making. The future will show that Barack Obama is as responsible to MoveOn membership for his success as George W. was on the religious right for his success. I hear you, but if banning together means I have to work every day in order to support people living off the grid and not paying taxes, or paying reperations to any group for wrong doings that happened to them a 100 years ago by people we dont even know then absolutley not do I think we should ban together. In Sacramento as in my area 80% of the homeless population are young, healthy, individules who could be doing anything with there lives. They choose to be in the position they are in…just ask them! I ran a drug and alcohol treatment center for years and almost all my clients said they prefer being homeless over having a job and responsibility, they prefer the camping life style. I have one on video explaining how he was taught to con the courts in order to receive SSI benefits that were on heroin that he would sell. I will support the police and fight AGAINST the rights of these abusing the Welfare System and Social Security benefits…and any one else who wants everything given to them for free. that is what is killing the economy…welfare and SSI has exceded the amount of money our country makes and every person n that camp is receiving one or the other.

I wish I could leave the city and homestead… ultimately forest service will kick squatters out of National forest land if they camp in one place more than 2 weeks… so much for this land is our land!

Railroads and local utility companies receive funds from property taxes that are invested from the government into these companies infastructure. Basically, the land is owned by the people and therefore legal for them to stay.

its so disgusting to see this shit…but I know in australia, we’d pretty much do the same thing if we had a tent city prop up…our rich and police are just as heartless…we wouldnt let a tent city pop up though…we would have sent the police in to disperse way before it even got to a tent city stage.
we have tens of thousands of homeless people in my state alone…and im sure the official numbers are not the truth…
media barely says a word…when they do, its very brief, they never push…
I find most australians dont have any heart at all and are very annoyed by the mere sight of homeless people. Which makes it real easy for the government to treat these people like trash.
Now this finacial crisis is on, I hope some of these heartless pricks get a taste of their own medicine…

Get Reporters on the scene during the evacuation!
Please call up friends of InfoWars.com and get them to act as Civilian Observers and Reporters of the scene just prior, during and after the eviction. Need to watch the Govt. very closely.
Bring video cams, audio cams, and backup cams, and phones.
And bring your emergency numbers of key persons or lawyers in your underwear in case they try to arrest you and then not give you a phone book.

I am curious how many voices here have gone beyond the comments and have voiced their concerns about this issue to their legislative local, state and federal bodies? Seems to me that unless there is action beyond lip service paid to this important (imho precedent setting move against the homeless) issue, then it will only get more desperate for many who are transitioning even now to homelessness.

I know this idea will sound ineffectual, but have any of the tent residents considered going before a Judge, in a court, to assuage this issue, perhaps asking for a temporary injunction, such that the tenters might have at least 2 weeks, or even 2 months! After-all we are talking about ECONOMIC REFUGEES here!!! In the LAND OF THE ” FREE” AND HOME OF THE “BRAVE”!!!
How can homeless be expected to do this in 48 hours???Especially those with belongings?
