Porak, Afghanistan – After a gang of bandits continuously terrorized the district of Porak last month, the villagers could not stand it any longer.

"We complained several times to the government and even showed them where the thieves lived," Ahmad, a local resident said.

But those bandits are still operating freely. So the resident of Porak began to turn to the Taliban to raise their complaints. In no time Taliban fighters showed up. They tried and convicted the gangsters and threatened harsher punishments should they be caught stealing again. The bandits have not showed up since then.

In the provinces around Kabul, the government are considered to be as almost non-existent or as having disappeared already, a local resident said. In this area the Taliban is more effective, the shadow government of Taliban have already spread and the local people are supporting them.

"So people turned to the Taliban," Abdel Qabir, who works with an international NGO, said.

Days after the 9/11 attacks, the US invaded Afghanistan to topple the ruling Taliban regime. Despite the deployment of 64,000 foreign troops under US and NATO command, violence has soar over the past years. A high-profile US intelligence report has concluded earlier this month that Afghanistan is on a "downward spiral" due to rising violence and official corruption.

    Parallel Governments

Taliban now has a strong presence in all seven of Logar’s districts, and they openly rule in four of them. In neighboring Ghazni province, Taliban is in full control of 13 of its 18 districts. In Wardak, which neighbors Kabul, it controls of six of the eight districts.

"The police are just for show," says one local. "The Taliban are the real power here."

A recent report by the Senlis Council think-tank said that Taliban, which ruled from 1996 to 2001, has now permanent presence in more than half of Afghanistan.

"This is a major problem for them [government]," says Habibullah Rafeh, a political analyst with the Afghanistan Academy of Sciences.

"Even though the Taliban can’t capture Kabul militarily because of the strength of the international forces there, the government can’t stop them from operating freely just outside of the city."

In areas under its control, Taliban has set governments complete with police chiefs and education and judicial committees.

"We prefer these courts to the government courts," says Fazel Wali, an NGO worker in Ghazni. He noted that Taliban courts have a reputation of working much faster than government ones, which are ridden with corruption.

"At least we have security and justice," contends Abdul Halim, a local in Ghazni province is a Taliban supporter.

"They may not provide jobs, but at least they share the same culture and brought security," agrees Qabir, the Logar resident.

    1. Liz Says:

Altho, Taliban have been persecuting and killing Christians, accusing them of proselytizing (whatever they mean by that )and saying that murder was okay. Hamilton Spectator newspaper said
Afghan intelligence officals have warned missionaries (aid workers from other countries) they may be followed home from church. After a S.African woman was shot while going to work, police were patrolling the road where she lives. A regular churchgoer said his staff was warned not to walk outside because of threats.
Just a note, not that taliban or police are all okay, and I think Ron Paul right to just stay out, and influence from without. Or choose to go as aid or missionary to try to help, knowing the risk.

    2. Trond Says:

Who needs Islam? Get rid of this nonsense.

    4. SIPCAT-L Says:

#2 is probably a zeitgeist communist or socialist. The answer to the world’s problems is more freedom of religion, and more nationalism. Not less as Marx tells you.

      Join a militia.
      None dare call it treason.

    5. phillyboy Says:

I am a african american muslim…. read about islam before you condem the religion…thats the problem now dont look at what a muslim does to justify his actions look at the religion as a whole it does not permit the killing of anything inocent……I guess the middle east, the world and african americans cant stand america because of the bully crap and the superior thinking muslims want to be muslims live our lives in peace with everyone stop hating on us cause it wont help!!!

    6. Matt Says:

If nothing else, this proves that our military efforts have always been intended to provide a never-ending conflict, results in never-ending profits for the central banks.

    7. Blah blah Says:

All males talking to the reporters there, ask a female if they preferred life under the Taliban….I doubt they will concur with their husbands, then they’ll be put to death for speaking out.

    8. jerry Says:

even though 911 was an inside job i cant stand those muslim bastards, let them feind for themselves..

    9. Drew Marshall Says:

      Islam is the Truth..

look at these Talibani, they are constantly demonized and attacked, yet they are exercising justice in that country

I think the US should allow Muslims worldwide to go in and help the Taliban become modernized, under a program that is grass roots and organized by locals.. so they can give women more rights and control their own land

root out terrorism but let people rule themselves

How can they call this “Taliban??” This is just Islamic Governance.. it works from a grass roots level

The West loves to label things.. remember the same people demonizing Taliban bombed the towers and blamed bin laden when it was really the neocons.. yet YOU PEOPLE STILL HOLD ON TO THE SAME IDEAS THEY PUT FORTH ABOUT MUSLIMS?

      Get real guys..

    10. maha Says:

Who needs Trond? Get rid of this nonsense.

    11. Benja S. Sariwatta Says:

let them have the Taliban back. Non-intervention. If the people of Afghanistan wants freedom enough, they will fight for it themselves.

    12. WEREFEAT Says:

These guys look a little bit crazy and a little bit smart. To me it seems like a forming militia that has reason to be.
At least they have a clear view to identify their enemies.
The US militia doesn’t. They think “it’s the government” whoever that is. Or possibly “the illuminati”, and no one knows who that is either.
Do a racial analysis on the leaders behind the scenes.

    13. Warrior Priestess Grandma Says:

The taliban seem to be alot like groops like the skin head/kkk/nazi/sexist groops here in the U.S. …..I know alot of these guys personaly cause i work hard to de-program them from the half baked philosophys they have been programed by…..when they recieve that white power tattoo on their right fore arm….it is very tuff to get them to evolve their stupidness….Im starting to believe that these assholes are BENT (imprinted) to be murdering thugs, and, they come here from the ninth circle of hell to OVERRIDE ….ANYTHING….that they see as Loveing essence….there is no argueing with an imprint !….ugh !, i am in such danger here, gotta walk a fine line, in this attempt to save what WANTS salvation and discard that which does not.

    14. yellowhak1 Says:

The U.S. can’t be trusted and should stay the hell out of other countries business and stop policing the world shoving their fake democracy and religion down their throats by destroying them culturally and every other way. Good book to read is CONFESSIONS OF AN ECONOMIC HITMAN.

    15. Dean Says:

HERE IS AN IDEA: You can’t march on Washington DC because if you did you would have one single target for the government to hit all at once. So I propose that on December 31 ( New Years Eve ) that the American people take back there government at the state level. We the people march on and take over the capetal building in every single state all on the same day at the same time. That would take care of the army because they cant fight us all at the same time in every state. We would just have to worry about the state government. Not to mention it would be a world wide event that they couldn’t hide on the back page. So we bust down the door for visual effect, we occupy the capitol building for a period of 3, 5, 7 days what ever. The point is we shut them down on the state level for a few days. You don’t want to really have a long stand off because you want the people to stay on your side and the people that work for the state still need a pay check at the end of the week. And we’r e just making a point. That we the people have had it and in stops RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW. BUT, if the government moves on it’s people in any state and I mean any state. Meaning that if they try to get us out using any kind of force at all, guns, tear gas, microwave cannon, whatever, then we burn it down all of them captil buildings in every state all at the same time. Now of course this plan needs a lot of fine tuning. but we have two months to make this happen. Hell, for all I know there might not be enough people pissed off yet. But it’s the only idea that I can think of. So if you think that this plan could work then e-mail me at http://www.umpquaoutlaw@hotmail.com . And for all you jerk offs out there that want to criticize me over this why don’t you tell me what your plan is instead of just bitching about it. I would really like to here what it is. Maybe your idea is better. Frankly the idea of doing this scares the hell out of me because I know what this government is capable of. If the response is good then I can have a web page up and running by next Monday. THE NEXT STEP IS YOURS. GOOD LUCK………P.S. if you don’t here from me it’s because they got to me.

    16. Last Ditch Says:

    18. Pooh Bear Says:

Leave Afghanistan to the Taliban. They were on the verge of eradicating the poppy farming. Now it’s thriving, thanks to the U.S. And now the government has the nerve to say the Taliban is promoting poppy farming,.

    19. jsca Says:

The same people who made the Taliban look good to Afghans want to rule the world.

    20. Perdizes Says:

This article could have been written almost 20 years ago except back then it was the Ruskies getting their bundas kicked and they were called something else other than the Taliban. Even Alexander the Great new better and got his army out of Afghanistan by the skin of their teeth in just 3 years. Who is really smoking the opium?????

    21. BLOODTHIRSTY Says:

When the taliban was in charge THERE WERE NO DRUGS IN AFGHANISTAN.America kicks them out and forces everyone living there to grow OPIUM PLANTS! Thats the damn truth, you ppl are just to stupid to realize this.keep on believing in your so called “most trusted name in news”.

    22. Anti-Dean Says:

      Dean…#16…

The people must be awakened before they will ever accept your proposal of violence.

      VIOLENCE SOLVES NOTHING.

IF YOU CANNOT MAKE PEOPLE LOVE YOUR IDEAS FOR WHAT THEY ARE, THEN YOUR IDEAS ARE NOT WORTH LOVING.

You may be upset, but 90% of the population of the US…hell…the WORLD….aren’t. You will only alienate those of us who wish for a better tomorrow, from the rest of the world.

We are outside the programming but most people aren’t. You cannot force them to be awakened. You can only lead them down the path and hope that the actions of their so-called benefactors will awaken them to what is really going on.

Do whatever you can, but do not force anyone to do anything. If free will doesn’t lead to freedom, history is doomed to repeat itself.

    23. TheGreatTurning Says:

I suggest everyone read the book the great turning. I dont agree with Alex on everything he says but I do know that mankind has to make a change. HOstility cant fight hostility. Only true peace can overcome what we face. Put your efforts into supporting peace movements around the world. We have the gift of learning to build self sustaining earth communities. Humanity has to take care of each other since we cant really rely on our “leaders”. Non violence has always worked and more importantly left the aggressors weaker. Focus on helping your family and community survive the downturn.

    24. Countdown To Extinction Says:

      Megadeth: Set the World Afire

Red flash clouds choking out the morning sky
They said it’d never come, we knew it was a lie
All forms of life die now the humans all succumb
Time to kiss your ass goodbye the end has just begun

Distorted figures walk the street, it’s 1999
Weeds once underneath your feet have grown into vines
Bodies melted like a candle, a land without a face
No time to change your fate, no time left, it’s too late

The arsenal of Megadeth can’t be rid they said
And if it comes, the living will envy the dead
Racing for power, and all come in last
      No winning first stone cast
      This falsehood worldly peace
      It’s treaties will soon cease
No one will be left to prove that humans existed
Maybe soon the children will be born open fisted
We all live on one planet it will all go up in smoke

Too bad they couldn’t see this lethal energy
and now the final scene, a global darkening

Dig deep the piles of rubble and ruins
Towering overhead both far and wide
There’s unknown tools of World War III
Einstein said “We’ll use rocks on the other side”
No survivors set the world afire
