the narrator is assuming the worst, which is healthy, and will help us prevent this technology from being used improperly. but in my opinion, this is technology, and is inherently neither bad nor good. it is like nuclear power, in that it can be a tremendous source of peaceful, clean energy, or it can be used to level cities, the choice that we have about what to do with this power is why we will still be “human”, and i believe that the collective good will win out in the end. i embrace this technology, because the logical conclusion is toward a unified, global conciousness (the matrix), which i believe to be a later step in human evolution, but not neccesarily so dystopian. the snobs will probably have this technology first (analogously, the atomic bomb came years before commercial nuclear power), but the human collective will defy the subsequent centralization of power (which will probably corrupt and destroy itself), and again, i believe that good will win. but, thats just my opinion, probably a long bow

I don’t like how this is narrated. Its the kind of narration Michael Moore does. Chop up a speech, and tell the viewer how to interpret the soundbytes. Its goddamn obnoxious. I don’t like being told what to think, regardless of who’s doing it or why.
Aside from that, I look forward to having a chip in my brain. Its not because I saw it on TV or in a movie. Its because I’m a full-on raging NERD and I think its pretty cool.
Yes, there are dangers, and I am very aware of who is funding this and why, but there’s something you need to realize…. the nerds of the world will not be asleep the day this becomes a commercial product. A few incautious nerds will undoubtedly rush headlong into this, but most will wait-and-see. I expect false technical diagrams to be “leaked” early, but eventually the real ones will be found, reverse engineered, and ‘clean’ ones will be imported from China.

This video unfairly suggests that the view of these two people represents the view of an entire group which is entirely FALSE. If the creator of this video had actually researched transhumanism he would not have thought to equate it with two people’s opinions. Transhumanists in actuality have trouble agreeing on issuess.
Transhumanists regularly discuss the promises as well as the perils of the technology of the coming decades. I don’t know of any other group that does this. The video does make a good point that the message of transhumanism could be subverted for the agenda of the powerful.

I’m sorry but this video is so ignorant. I am a transhumanist, and I know what people in the community think. It has nothing to do with fascism and controlling others. It’s about democracy and personal freedom to improve yourself.
We are constantly improving ourselves physically and mentally within our current limits. If we can go beyond those limits through technology, why shouldn’t we?
We use medical technology right now to keep people alive who would normally die, we use technology, cochlear implants, to allow deaf people to hear. We are developing robotic technology, and even genetic capabilities, to replace missing limbs.
What we do have to fear is the misuse of such technology. This is why we need to think about the issues now, rather than later. Because this technological progress will not stop as long as the human race continues to live.
For those of us who are not religious and who don’t believe in the end times, this sort of technology is a Utopian ideal. It means the elimination of pain and suffering. Uplifting peoples brains and bodies, so that they no longer suffer, this is the ultimate goal.
I’m tired of all the anti-intellectualism from people like the maker of this video. Intelligence and critical thinking skills are not a bad thing. Removing suffering from humanity is not a bad thing.
Technology will make everyone equal. We can only have true personal freedom when technology ,makes each of us, powerful enough, to survive on our own.
If you had mature nanotechnology along with a body and brain that were designed to make you, essentially, indestructable and a super genius. You would be able to build whatever you want or need. You don’t need the government to provide anything for you.
People already get brain implants, they already use stimulants to improve their brain function, coffee anyone? I think that this sort of technology will become fully accepted into society in the future, and really, there is nothing anyone can do, short of nuclear war, to stop it.
Now, whether or not you believe that the powers that be, will use this technology, in order to try and control everyone. I have no doubt that they will, but the intelligence of people is such that they will fail. At a certain point the collective intelligence of the majority of humanity will overcome any single individuals desire and/or ability to control everyone.
Technology will set us all free. Look at books, news papers, the internet, phones, email. All of these technologies have improved our lives and given us more power and freedom. Technology has been, and always will be, a force of good in this world. In spite of the evil done with technology, the improvements to human lives have been 100 fold the negative effects.

BBC Radio 1 in the UK announced in 1996 that BTTechnologies had unvailed a chip which implanted on the optic nerve can record everything that is seen and thought by the carrier. This chip can then be played back on a special ‘video’ device once that person is dead, or even implanted in the brain of a cloned human – giving an impression of immortality… If this were not real it’d make an astounding sci-fi story! Me? I’d sooner be one of those ‘dumb’ terrans than a cretin cyborg any day.

If you want to end the emotion of suffering as opposed to ending the causation of suffering that’s just lobotomize the portion of the brain that controls emotion. That will improve the human condition, that’s destroy free though, pain, happiness, grief. What is your problem? I couldn’t imagine going to my father’s funeral and not being able to cry. Suffering is the human condition. How would you know what happiness was without suffering? How could know experience true happiness if it’s just the illusion of happiness. I wouldn’t be shocked if all consumer devices have or will very soon have some form of tracking for consumer database compiling. Well the people in this area like to trout fish this time of year. That’s put a mark down fishing rods for a week and increase profits by 70%. This is the scary part of corporate databasing. They will sell their information to other companies, and are constantly allowing these data systems to be attacked by hackers(government?). Hell the telephone companies are basically NSA data bases, for the government to decide who been naughty or nice. Watch that documentary The Corporation

When the time to fight comes which it will. They will need more than a computer chip or potato chip. I don’t have insurance, I have removed things from my body before. If I can dig a piece of clamshell two inch into my heel, I can pull out a chip. But not wearing state approved RFID wardrobe that’s tricky. When the system is everything what do you do. For those of us who remember. Before the Berlin wall fell, and the time of the Salt ll Treaties
Ronald Reagan was thumping his chest and calling Russia the evil empire. He seemed irrationally
confident and cocky. Then they held the talks in Greenland (I believe) . He and Alexander (Hell) Haig
went into the talks head up boasting they were going to lay down the law to Russia. Well, when they
came out their expressions were chilling. Their faces were white and they could barely speak. You
would think they had seen the devil himself. Soon after that the wall did come down ,Russia threw up
their hands and said “We give up”. Problem was Reagan and Haigs reactions at the conference didn’t
match the outcome . Very strange if you paid attention . It wasn’t much later Reagan started babbling
in front of the UN about what we would do if we were invaded by an alien civilization. That was a very
unnerving time . Nothing really made sense.

Couple of points.
A human with an implant is not a new species, it’s a human with an implant. Correct me if I am wrong but a new species only comes about through genetic change, no? Perhaps these scientists need to revisit their dictionaries.
Mr Warwick, as a tax paying worker in academia is already cattle, in a similar way to his own definition. Well, perhaps more of a sheepdog.
Further point, given that autistic savants and other genius’s (genii?) can perform amazing feats fo memory and calculation, would it not be worthwhile to find out why, and what we are capable of without a pentium in our earholes?

The problem with some scientists, including this Warwick vermin, is that they are only intelligent in one way. They spend so long in labs number crunching that they forget they are human themselves. They lack emotional intelligence, as do many geeks who need to get out more.
I’m not sure if Warwick is completely serious, or is just trying to be deliberately controversial. He may have unresolved issues from childhood, and may emotionally be stuck at age fourteen or something, desperately trying to draw attention to himself by saying silly things, such as humans in the future may be merely a sub species, like cows.
Warwick and those like him are probably projecting onto others how they think about themselves. At heart, Warwick may be a lonely and empty person, spiritually bereft and desperately seeking something to fill his terrifying void, give him a reason to get up in the morning. The rest of us find this in our family and friends, and even in trying to make the world a slightly better place for our having been here, for instance by trying to expose 911. But the Warwick’s of this world, and there are many of them, are emotionally adrift, desperately hanging on to whatever belief system will keep there psyches afloat. Sadly for the rest of us, there have always been wealthy and powerful dark characters to take advantage of these emotionally immature and naive individuals.

I can just picture Angels of Death in FEMA camps conducting implant experiments on subjects to see if destroyed nervous systems can be restored or if brain capacities can be enhanced by juicing them up with chips. Even if slavery isn’t the intention of this technology, anyone who denies themselves the opportunity to use technology within their own bodies will be falling behind or made obsolete. The poor as always will lose the most. Parents will upgrade their kids so that they can come top in class. Your job will go to a cyborg because they are faster and less error prone. And that will be how it is sold to us. You won’t be able to say no. Ultimately, sections of humanity will become something else and yes, natural humans (those who refuse to enter the cyborg race) will do their bidding.

i thin these guys are a minority and pointing to them and say: Look, all modern scientists think like that is just purely wrong.
Also, cyborg technology is VERY FAR from being implemented. Scientists have still trouble to connect tissue to microchips, to make a signal connection possible.
Also, noone really understands how the brain really works, the base to effectively connect a chip to a brain. So this talk about ‘learning a new language in 3 seconds’ i just PURE FICTION and MOPVIE TALK. People tend so DRAMATIZE and SENSATIONALIZE these topics, talking about human-cow CROSS-SPECIES for example. That ‘cross-species’ was a cell that devided 32 times, so we’re talking about A CELL THAT DEVIDED 32 times NOT ABOUT SOME WIERD CREATURES.

Talk about this stuff has been happening since before 2000 CE. If we are talking about just implants, and not not autonomous nanotech probes (which are quite a long ways away, realistically 2060CE), then no one will be able to hack your entire mind, just the implants. Also, I don’t think we will be using bluetooth or 802.11 wireless, which could be easily hacked in the same room. It will probably be a short range (transcranial, through the skull) only and use some proprietary transmission protocol. Therefore, some one would have to be within a few inches of the implant location to even attempt to connect to it. Also, if one wanted to disable an implant – this would be the most disastrous since implants require surgery and are costly – they could just use a HERF (high energy electromagnetic frequency) device to aim a beam of microwave radiation towards the implant and fry the semiconductor components. Of course they could always use an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) device to achieve the same effect.
Doing anything like the Matrix would require way too much processing power. Already, we have seen computers hit a limit of speed increase due to manufacturing process. Even if we could continue to increase the speed, we hit hard physical limits. By the time we have all of the technology in place to be able to simulate a brain, we will have created the advanced technology needed to understand the complex system and astable dynamics of the brain. But that is a far cry from today’s technology.

I believe in the individuals right to do what they want with their own body. Although I am not a Transhumanist, I say let them alter their body with technology if they really want to. Because the current state of technological devices remains primarily focused toward health care, I do not believe will realistically become an issue for another decade or so.
