“The Responsible Left:” Funding Obama’s Expanding Wars

Over the past few days, we reported on how the White House and Democratic Congressional Leadership waged a dirty campaign to scare up votes to support another $106 billion in funds for their wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Now, several of the so-called anti-war Democrats who left their principles at the House coat check on their way in to vote Tuesday are trying to explain away their hypocritical votes.




	Instead of using cold hard cash, the White House threatens to pull the rug from under dissenting legislators and offers its support to those who cede their conscience to the president’s agenda. So much for change.

New York Democrat Anthony Weiner, who voted against the war funding in May—when it didn’t matter—only to vote Tuesday with the pro-war Dems, sounded like an imbecile when he made this statement after the vote: “We are in the process of wrapping up the wars. The president needed our support.” What planet is Weiner living on? “Wrapping up the wars?” Last time I checked, there are 21,000 more US troops heading to Afghanistan alongside a surge in contractors there, including a 29% increase in armed contractors. Does Weiner think the $106 billion in war funding he voted for is going to pay for one way tickets home for the troops? What he voted for was certainly not the “Demolition of the 80 Football-field-size US Embassy in Baghdad Act of 2009.” To cap off this idiocy, Weiner basically admitted he is a fraud when he said the bill he voted in favor of “still sucks.”

Jan Schakowsky, who has done some incredibly important work on Blackwater and the privatized war machine, also voted against the supplemental in May, but switched her vote on Tuesday. “I do believe my president is a peacemaker,” Schakowsky said. “I’m going to give him what he wants.” A peacemaker who is expanding war? Moreover, what happened to the system of “checks and balances?” If Congressmembers, especially anti-war ones like Schakowsky, start just giving the president “what he wants,” then where is the peoples’ voice?

How are these people sleeping at night?

Obviously these folks are partisans or else they wouldn’t be Democrats, but this “Dear Leader knows best” mentality is cultish. Republican Rep. Ron Paul, who, whatever one thinks of him, has been consistently opposed to these wars, put it best when he rose on the floor Tuesday to speak against the war funding: “I wonder what happened to all of my colleagues who said they were opposed to the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I wonder what happened to my colleagues who voted with me as I opposed every war supplemental request under the previous administration. It seems, with very few exceptions, they have changed their position on the war now that the White House has changed hands.”

One “anonymous” Massachusetts lawmaker told Politico that those Democrats who voted for the war funding and IMF credits are “what we call the responsible left.” Barney Frank, another flip-flopper on war funding, compared the anti-war left to the Rush Limbaugh right-wing, saying, “They have no sense of reality.” Perhaps Rep. Frank should ask the Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who lobbied intensely against the war funding he supported if they have “no sense of reality.”

As previously discussed, this vote was a crucial test—because the White House and pro-war Democrats actually needed to get some ‘anti-war’ legislators to vote with them or the bill would have failed—in determining which Democrats have a spine when it comes to standing up to the war and which are just party operatives with their principles and votes up for political bidding.

While the White House reportedly told some Democrats who voted against the war, “you’ll never hear from us again,” Obama has made it a point this week to intervene to defend those hypocritical “anti-war” legislators who voted with him. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn was one of the 51 Democrats who voted against the funding in May and then consciously misplaced his principles Tuesday. Cohen was targeted for his hypocrisy by activists, spurring President Obama to issue a statement to local media in his district praising Cohen:

The White House Press Office called the Washington bureau of The Commercial Appeal late Wednesday afternoon offering the statement after anti-war liberals across the country derided Cohen as a “fraud” and one who deserved a place in the “Hall of Shame.”

“Congressman Cohen is a leader in the United States Congress and a strong voice for the people of Tennessee,” Obama’s statement declared, adding that Cohen’s vote will “ensure our men and women in uniform have the resources they need to protect our country.”

What is particularly telling is how Cohen doesn’t even pretend his vote had anything to do with principle or representing his constituents. It was simple partisanship. “Maybe [Obama] just wanted to respond to people who helped him,” Cohen said. “Yes, I was surprised but I’ve been in the president’s corner on several occasions and it’s good to have him in my corner.”

All of this sounds, frankly, corrupt. Instead of using cold hard cash, the White House threatens to pull the rug from under dissenting legislators and offers its support to those who cede their conscience to the president’s agenda. So much for change.

This spending bill is likely to sail through the Senate where there is no group even vaguely resembling the ever-shrinking anti-war crowd in the House. Once again, here are the Democrats who turned their backs on their pledges to vote against this war funding:

Yvette Clarke, Steve Cohen, Jim Cooper, Jerry Costello, Barney Frank, Luis Gutierrez, Jay Inslee, Steve Kagen, Edward Markey, Doris Matsui, Jim McDermott, George Miller, Grace Napolitano, Richard Neal (MA), James Oberstar, Jan Schakowsky, Mike Thompson, Edolphus Towns, Nydia Velázquez, and Anthony Weiner.

I have a professor that has a pony tail and wears sandals. When Bush was president, all he did was talk about how we have to leave Iraq immediately and all of the republicans where war criminals and racist bigots. Now 4 years later I took one of his classes(last class free elective) Now I hear from him, “Obama has brought this country hope and inspiration” “It certainly seems that we ahev had a spike in hate crimes since Obama has been in office, you know that shooting at the holocaust museum” “Well Obama can’t leave Iraq right now, he is being responsible” When i took his class as a freshman I was a typical brainwashed neo-liberal. This is what scares me about Obama the most. No matter what he says, no matter how many lies he tells, no matter how many times he flip-flops, no matter how much power he grabs, no matter how much money he spends, his supporters who voted for him, as well as the media, and congress are blind to it.

Thats what is most scary of all. Not what he is doing but the fact that it seems he has hypnotized millions of people.

If you go to a liberal democrat, or any Obama supporter and you say, “how do you feel about all the lies Obama has told?”, that person will look at you incredulously as if you just punched them in the stomach. Its extremely scary to say the least.

Yes, thru the Bush years I have seen so many of these Obama supporters bring up so much about the W-regime and every little thing associated with it. From illegalities, W apparently not actually doing time in Vietnam, his thug connections both in the US and overseas, Greenspan, mercinary contractors…just everything. ( BTW, I never did support W or much of the snakes in DC ).

But the Obama supporters seem to no longer posess any of those ‘traits’ when dealing with Obama and that team. It’s hypocricy and is part of why so many people around this planet view Americans the way they do; integrity, ethics, conscience & morality comes flooding in, but quickly evaporates when one sees (hopes for) personal rewards. By ‘personal rewards’ I am meaning that so many persons have lost jobs, living week by week, lost or feear losing homes & property, less available for ‘investments’, no healthcare or limited healthcare, etc, etc. And I believe this is why so may turned to Obama becasue they voted while thinking of their pocketbooks…………………..and to hell with the people of Afghanistan & Pakistan because Obama has promised me THINGS.

As far as research, maybe llok into how the Federal level of the United States government went from having a cap of about 5% towards investing Internationally..to now investing well well beyond that now. Also look into Germany AFTER World War One and the banking as well as the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia.

ROY HOBBS: ideas for source materials: The Praetorian Guard by John Stockwell. CIA won pre-publication censorship rights over Stockwell because he was an ex-operative. In THIS book the only chapter they censored was on CIA recruitment coast to coast in universities right on down to local 2 year institutions. Wonderful stuff, covers jfk, nam, hollywood etc.

Interesting how the IMF credits are also “wrapped up” in this war supplemental – looks like the multi-trillion $$ (all told) greatest robbery of all time from the American people is getting “wrapped up”, alright. Why don’t they just make Blackwater turn into the army, like make a law that says that that company has to turn into an army company, meaning like dress the same and make the same deals like the army does, same suppliers, and change their name, and make a team in charge and train the same. Well first of Gustoff Blackwater soldiers get paid alot more than our regular army, so good luck convincing them to conform with our troops. However I was told by a friend of mine who was in Iraq 3 times as part of the regular army, that although the two factions will fight side by side the regular army bears no responsibility for any Blackwater missions. Which means if their guys are in trouble, left behind, or in a tight spot there won’t be a crew of regular army coming to get them or risking their lives to save these contractors.

He was on Bill Maher’s show recently, and some bimbo on the panel next to him said something like, “You’re opposed to what Obama’s doing, yet you opposed Bush too. You’re all over the place on this, and I just don’t understand your position.”
He said, “My position is that I’m opposed to the war,” shaking his head in disbelief that this woman couldn’t understand that there were more than 2 opinions on the subject, let alone that both parties have taken exactly the same stance on this issue.

heres a scary ass thought that just occurred to me.

If we were “attacked” by Iran, North Korea, Syria, The Riddler or Godzilla- The flag waving Bush worshipers would be 100% behind thr retaliation Obama would “have” to impose… If we really “kicked their ass” after taking some big losses- Obama has the ultra liberals and the redneck war mongers.

Over ninety percent of the electorate supported the War Pig candidates–McCain and Obama– in the general election. There is not going to be any fundamental change in Washington until Americans stop voting for Democrats and Republicans. It is nice to hear Paul, Kucinich and others but they are not making a difference. We still have unchecked banker rule– $14.8 trillion, I believe, was the figure Alex gave on his show of the amount created by the FED and sitting out there somewhere for the use of the bankers and their friends while Americans are losing their homes, their jobs, their futures.

The 2010 elections are around the corner…will Americans finally stand up for themselves and their children and vote these swine out of office? The only other alternatives are armed revolution or submission. The movie “RED DAWN” is set to premier in theaters all over the country once again .Why ? Someone is trying to tell us something and I think we had better get ready for the proverbial SHTF real soon . Think there isn’t a possibility of this scenario happening in real life ? Guess again folk’s ,It can and it will . Keep your sights on our Southern Borders my friends .It ain’t Mexican Drug Cartels doing all the killings and the battles in Mexico . Anti-war Obama supporters are hypocrites of the highest order, and Keith Olberman and Rachel Madow are chief among them. How can one oppose the wars for seven years only to embrace the same wars and additional wars (Pakistan) without feeling like a complete fraud?

Try this.

If some un named Nation attacks us (or we are attacked somehow and it’s blamed n some nation) and Obama “retaliates” by dragging us into a MAJOR war- The “flag waving” Bush supporters (the die-hards who oppose Obama) will be 100% behind Obama and he will have over 90% of the U.S.A. in support of WHATEVER he does.

Imagine a World where Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are worshiping Obama as much as the Lib’s…. We could be one attack away from that becoming reality.

if we are truly serious about the things that are happening here on our planet……we will take an inventory of our own lives and realize the word of God said these things will occurr…..calling people names and putting down others is not the way…….no gun, or slander will set us free…it is easy pointing the finger at others and not really looking at ourselves and truly know that the problem is not with others it is with us………we need to wake up and realize that unless we are truly converted and prepare for the second coming of Christ we will not be ready for what is about to come into the world……..wake up yes but not because of the physical attacks but wake up because of the spiritual attacks against our minds……Get back into the bible…….thank you Joy

Yes. A large percentage of the voters are ignorant. It doesn’t matter that ongoing war is the greatest issue each day. Continuous war justifies the terrorism lie. People from all social classes don’t care if their president or congressmen voted for the banker bailout and for endless war funding. Most important is charisma, and camera cuteness to the sheep. I would love to see Alex take a microphone out on the streets and broadcast interviews of all ages, to be put on U-Tube. This way, the stupid can be educated to their stupidity.
