The Technocracy and the Genetic Engineering of Humanity

We already live in a world of ‘haves and have-nots’, but in the future could that gap widen into an immense chasm resulting in a technocracy with two-tiers of genetically engineered humans? Predictions have been made with regards to robotics and genetic evolution, and there is data to back each theory up. This article briefly investigates each claim.

2008 saw a panoply of advances in robotics, artificial intelligence and nano-technology. A recent study by Spanish scientists looked into the impacts of robots on future society. International experts working on inventing and adapting cutting edge robots for practical use were interviewed during the study in order to find out by when we will be regularly using the models they are currently designing. All agreed on 2020 as a “technological inflection point,” because by then robots “will be able to see, act, speak, manage natural language and have intelligence, and our relationship with them will have become more constant and commonplace,” said López Peláez.
One of the more disconcerting predictions is “the insertion of robots into our bodies, such as intelligent implants in the brain, which will improve our rational thought, and nanorobots to be released into the blood to clean our arteries. Another important role will be the replacement of people working in the areas of security, surveillance or defence. According to Professor López Peláez, it is predicted that 40% of armies will be automated with robot soldiers by 2020 ‘just as a car factory is today, which will result in less human deaths during violent conflicts.’ ”
Thanks to our friends at DARPA there have been many more recent advancements in robotics for the military that will make that prediction a reality. These include robots that can go into small places that are equipped with cameras, lethal and “non-lethal” weapons, autonomous shooting robots (forutnately that have backfired-no pun intended- miserably, but that won’t stop their development), exoskeletons, flying spy-bugs, “big dog” that carries a 340-lb payload, a caterpillar-like robot that can climb vertical surfaces (including metal and glass), hovering robots to shoot down missiles, and autonomous full-sized vehicles. They’ve even created a “multi-robot pursuit system” to hunt down “non-cooperative human subjects.” And these are all the better to kill people with, of course.
According to the above-mentioned study, the “most striking feature of this technological revolution are social robots, machines with artificial intelligence, and with which we will have emotional and even intimate interactions. ‘A robot might be a more effective partner and a better person than the humans we actually have in our immediate lives: just as you can see dog owners talking to their pets today, soon we will be talking to robots,’ says López Peláez – to such an extent that sexual robots are currently being designed to carry out pleasurable personal interactions. These will be equipped with the required sensorial abilities, such as touch.”
There has already been a robot developed to be a companion for a lonely man – “her” name is Akiko. In June of 2005, research had begun at the NASA Goddard laboratory “to develop a high-tech covering that would enable robots to sense their environment and react to it, much like humans respond when something or someone touches their skin.” And in lab at John’s Jopkins, the “haptic artists” are working on “touch effects.”
If this seems a little too sci-fi, consider the following mundane advances in 2008 alone: various robots that can not only vacuum a room (Roomba), but cook food, greet a person at the door, fetch things, or just listen if you are lonely; pets (hamsters, dogs, lions, tigers, and various bears – oh my!), plants, dolls that show emotion depending on how they are treated, fish, robots designed to help teach autistic persons and more.
Not only has robotics made massive leaps forward but artificial intelligence (AI) has as well. Research into neural-networks and complex data-processing programs have made great progress in the last few years, especially in the realm of surveillance. In fact, Google is working on an AI program to gobble up not only all the data from the Internet, but all the books that are being put online as well. They are actively working on this AI program gaining sentience. Perhaps they’ve never seen the predictive programming movies Lawnmower Man or Battlestar Galactica? Or perhaps they have.
And nano-technology has become a part of our lives whether we know it or not. Nano are used in products such as personal care items and even the plastics that contain food items inside cardboard boxes. There are growing concerns about how this technology is affecting humans and its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, yet there are no labeling requirements on food or personal care products so consumers can make an educated choice about their purchases.
Genetic engineering
In 2007 evolutionary theorist Oliver Curry from the London School of Economics put forth the theory that, “The human race will one day split into two separate species, an attractive, intelligent ruling elite and an underclass of dim-witted, ugly goblin-like creatures.” Is this possible without genetic engineering or ‘enhancement?’ And who would genetically or technologically ‘enhance’ themselves anyway?
A Transhumanist, that’s who. The term “transhumanism” refers to those who are not opposed to using technology, including genetic and/or bionic enhancements, to improve the human body. “We can also use technological means that will eventually enable us to move beyond what some would think of as ‘human.’ ” Transhumansist are passionate about making advancements so they can have “better minds, better bodies and better lives” although they stress that one should be able to choose whether or not to be ‘enhanced.’ Lest one think they are a bunch of nutty geeks who will get nowhere with these silly notions, take a look at who’s on their Board of Directors. They are no slackers, and it seems that the ability to ‘enhance oneself’ is quickly coming into the realm of the present. One article on their blog states that school children, “are the transhumans of the future. The schools are superb areas for the popularization of transhumanism.” It goes on to give tips on how transhumanism (and posthumanism) can be incorporated into virtually every subject, but, it insists “it is all about communicating knowledge and arousing interest not indoctrinating!” It won’t be a very tough sell to children who are raised on live-action Transformers, Batman, Iron Man and other characters, as well as Bluetooth, virtual reality and online networked video-gaming.
Some scientists are concerned about the possiblity of “genetic genocide” stating that genetic enhancements may lead to creation of superhuman people and “given the history of humankind, it is extremely unlikely that we will see the posthumans as equal in rights and dignity to us, or that they will see us as equals.” He states his concerned that “the posthuman will come to see us (the garden variety human) as an inferior subspecies without human rights to be enslaved or slaughtered preemptively.”
Besides transhumanists, mainstream science is now more public about genetic manipulation. The Human Genome Project successfully mapped the entire human genome in 2003, adding an unheard of level of knowledge about our species. There are serious questions about the ethics of genetic enhancement and manipulation (outside of “gene therapy” for the seriously ill) that are and will continue to be hotly debated. At the present, prospective parents are being wooed with idea of being able to not only choose their child’s gender, but other qualities as well, as long as they have the money to pay of course. It has even been called “a sort of decentralized, do-it-yourself eugenics.”

The larger question of whether this ability will lead to a society of “two very separate classes of people: those who can afford genetic enhancements and those who cannot” is not an empty one.
The elite already have a quality of life far beyond us mere mortals, but they have worked studiously on their multi-generational plan to create a neo-feudalist society. They are are obsessed with the scientific outlook, genetics, are very careful to keep their genetic lines “pure” from the rest of us rabble and fund much of the genetics research. Eating only whole organic foods, exercising and not taking vaccines that are offered to us, using natural medicine instead of Western medicine are some ways they keep themselves healthy. They even have organic heirloom seeds saved up in around the world (and see here). Transhumanism is appealing to them because it has the potential to not only make them smarter, healthier and live longer, but with genetic engineering to make them more beautiful, too. And historically, they have been heavily involved in the eugenics movement and give generously to foundations and causes that promote abortion, “family planning,” sterility and population reduction. Meanwhile, the rest of human race is being poisoned by the multiple toxins in genetically modified food, commercial drinks and water, and that are ubiquitous in the environment. Sodium fluoride has been shown to decrease intelligence and mercury, such as is found in vaccines and dental amalgam, actually kills human neurons (video). Other substances such as aspartame have been linked to neurodegenerative conditions and pthalates affect male fertility. We are barraged with barium, aluminium and other carcinogenic particulates from the aerial spraying that have been found to also contain Mycoplasma fermentens and an unknown biological organism that the Environmental Protection Agency refuses to investigate or identify. The net effect to our health is an explosion of preventable disases such as diabetes, Crohn’s, chronic fatigue syndrome, fybromyalgia and others, not to mention chronic obesity.
It seems as if we are being genetically engineered, so to speak, without our knowledge or consent. An unhealthy and ‘dim-witted’ population is much easier to enslave and control, which is part of the elite’s plan for their New World Order. We can choose to eat whole, organic foods, avoid processed foods and fluoridated water, exercise, use natural medicine and avoid overuse of antibiotics to guard our health against this onslaught upon our genetic health for our posterity. While we cannot affect the technological and robotic advancements we must choose not to let the “genetic evolution” prediction occur, but it will take a concerted effort and determination. Our freedom, health, and genetic integrity of our selves and our progeny are at stake.

While the elite may enhance themselves somewhat, they may be reluctant to take huge risks of damaging their family lines and ending their dynasties through unforeseen consequences and scientific errors inherent in any new technology.
More likely is their effort to reduce everyone else to goblin-like creatures through genetic malnutrition, genetic alteration, and economic deprivation. Poor nations suffer from bad genes, environmental pollution, and chemical damage, more than wealthier nations. Genetic damage may be cumulative through inheritance, resulting in a gradual decline of a population.
Merely consuming normal foods in a less polluted environment, and advanced medical care, may alone be sufficient to result in a class of healthier, smarter individuals who are distinctly different from a general public lacking these advantages.

After starting my info gathering on whats available out there on what is hapening to our planet.
I first thought what a bunch of baloney because i couldn’t answer my one question which is WHY?
Why would the powers that be want all this NWO one world currency order and control when they have all the money they could ever spend. Billions of dollars buys what ever you want goods/ woman/men drugs, boats, cars, islands, goverments Etc.
But then i got to thinking of men like Alexander the great, Attila the hun, Xerxxes etc.
They had all these things exept the cars, so what drove them and the only answer that i could come up with is that which so far has no limit and that is power.
Power over Europe = good power over Asia = good power over the world never done before.
Soon we will see if our world is gona change I may have just spent the last care free Xmas that i’ll see for a while or ever.

I can see the future of genetic engineering leading to something like in that movie ‘Idiocracy’. I can see people desperatly wanting to believe that their genes are the “elite” genes as has been going on and leading to failures. It’s the will of people that decides what they are capable of becomming. IQ is half environment and half genes, well this is utterly wrong, because so few people are ever raised in a truly intellectual environment or were ever taught what such and environment would be like. Plato, Aristotle weren’t just bright students it was what socrates was teaching that was what made them…and what was that? He got open minded people to understand that if you ask the right questions you can figure anything out, and more importantly things that you didn’t even know existed. Such as if we truly understand electricity, strongweak nuclear forces, light, magnetism,and gravity, why is it that we can control all except gravity?

They got this all wrong anyway. Here is the reality, learn about string theory. How many extra dimensions are there according to string theory? So, logically given the number of extra dimensions that there are which we cannot observe or measure don’t you think those extra dimensions are involved in DNA? And, given that point how do you accurately quantify the human genome if you cannot observe or measure the effects of the extra dimensions that are part of the human genome? See? Experimentation and manipulation with only part of the equation leads to disaster, sort of like building a doomsday machine that works but you forgot to include a timer on the device or an off switch.

Hello. I am a medical genetics trainee. I assisted to the American Society of Human Genetics meeting in Philadelphia. My position about this topics is that I oppose the use of this technology to give differential advantage to anyone. One of the topics discussed involved the area of epigenetics. In this area it is disclosed the powerful influence of environment in the expression of genes. You can have a set of genes that predispose to disease but if the environment is favorable these genes will become silenced by methylation. This is fascinating field, and this really tells us that there is no destiny in genes. It is people who build the destiny of other people. Humanity must evolve along this pathway. Eliminating the idea of supremacy of one human group over other once and for all.

Alvaro, you can’t prevent others from enhancing themselves that is against life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and makes you a social nazi for some sort of comforting social norm.
Also, genes definately predispose to disease, the studies are out and you can’t deny genetic diseases. Yes environmental conditions influence how genes are expressed to some extent, but you can hardly control your genes with environment or free-will.

Isn’t that, in some ways, the opposite of what H. G. Wells “predicted” in “The Time Machine”? He suggested an evolutionary spiral in which the underclass species became attractive but unintelligent, and lived above ground, and the ruling elite became ugly, goblin-like creatures, and lived underground–and every now and then, drew some of the underclass underground where they ate them.
I thought that’s the way it’s gonna happen! Who am I to believe now???

Having read DARPA’s research pages, grant applications, and researching what the specific doctors/scientists have achieved, I thought to myself: What type of individual would volunteer for human testing of this technology? How many human subjects would willingly suffer excrutiating pain, negative effects, or death from the experiments?
Three general classes of people are targeted for research on various levels: the prison population, the military, and those receiving government assistance.
Perhaps there will be people from the tranhumanist movement that will trip over themselves in the rush to volunteer. Or will the transhumanists take the position of the man who formed a group promoting suicide to curb damage to the planet: “you first”?
I would think “evolving” is a natural process. Perhaps “self enhancement” (as you first indicated) would be more appropriate.
As for me, I will stay true to form.

Oh now were against family Planning what is with Alex Jones? I am a diabetic as a result of my genetics (I am not obese or sedentary). As soon as I can debug my genetic code I will, and pity the fool that stands in my way. While I’m at it I wouldn’t mind a few extra IQ points and an indefinite lifespan (not immortal, being run over by a truck will still be lethal). Can these technologies be misused like all the others? Sure can! It’s called free will and your priest can explain it. Don’t condemn new technologies because you can’t think outside your box.

Why shouldn’t the U.S. fund the population controllers at the United Nations, as Huffington Post columnist Cristina Page proposes? The short answer is that the U.N. Population Fund (UNFPA) is implicated in some of the most coercive anti-people campaigns in the world today.
Started in 1969 following a massive lobbying effort by billionaire John D. Rockefeller III, the UNFPA claims to work to “reduce poverty and to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, every young person is free of HIV/AIDS, and every girl and woman is treated with dignity and respect.” In fact, the UNFPA, like its founder, believes that the way to reduce poverty is to reduce the numbers of the poor through sterilization, contraception, and abortion campaigns.
The population control programs of the past half-century, born in the dark fear of “the unchecked growth in human numbers,” have been a quiet but profound disaster for the poor and marginalized half of humanity. Hundreds of millions of poor women (and men) have had their fundamental rights–i.e., to control their own reproductive systems and to determine the number and spacing of their children–grossly violated. An even larger number have had their overall wellbeing compromised as resources have been drained away from primary health care programs, with some succumbing to HIV/AIDS and other epidemics. While the cost of such programs in terms of human lives and suffering has been all too real, the promised benefits have proven largely illusory. Is the U.S. more secure, the global environment better protected, and the world wealthier today because of population control programs? Are the poor better off? The evidence suggests not.

I found this article very disturbing especially the pursuit to alter a peoples appearance and intelligence through science. I’m not sure if anyone here is familiar with the movie “Gattaca”. In the film people were no longer being made the old fashioned way. Except a select few. Such as the main character who was the first son of a couple and he was called a “love child” in the movie. When the parents found he came out less then perfect they decided to have a second child who would be perfect. Hence their egg and sperm was taken and altered and their second child was born in a Jar. He was perfect in every way. At least by societies standards.
Well as adults the perfect brother received a horrible spinal injury hence the vulnerability that even science could not remove. He used his less then perfect brother through blood transfusions and urine samples to take over his life. As repayment for the unfairness of the new society which tended to kill the imperfect once they reached the age of 33. The thing is the only true difference between the brothers was how they came into the world and a few genes. Because the imperfect brother was able to successfully take over his brothers life. He did not lack the intelligence to do his brothers job nor was he less attractive. In my opinion it was all perception of this very twisted society.
In truth if we could truly create such perfect people. Folks like Einstein would be considered an anomaly. That even science could not explain. Much less any other genius that has been found through out human history. Instead of trying to play God and alter their destiny’s. People need to appreciate the uniqueness of the human design. As a previous comment mentioned the don’t have all the pieces to the puzzle to the human genome. They never will. This may offend several on here but why would God allow people to have the secret to creating his most beloved creatures.

I don’t believe that it will turn into separation of the species, as most people are not generally attracted to non-human creatures. Even if they’re so-called superhuman, do you think people would welcome the prospect of inhuman, but superior aliens? I think what this will allow, on a smaller level, is the democratization of human features, as in you are no longer limited by your parents’ genetic defects, once we see gene replacement therapy for diseases and shortcomings (like make yourself taller, etc.), furthermore we might also see diversification of human features. Right now, about 95% of the world is black-hair, brown-eyed, but with such technology available, people might choose to elect to change their facial looks, or feature colors, in order to attract attention, or to win a spouse by being “rare.” We might see more girls, in non-Western nations, electing to give themselves blonde hair, while in Western nations, blonde girls might elect to give themselves brown or black hair. Generally, this will be a two-way trend, as people want to stand out, and thus they want features that the rest of the population around them don’t have. I don’t think this will lead to any major problems, as long as we stay in the range of genes that we have experience with (like disease genes, hair, eye color, fat/thin, tall/short etc.) and don’t do crazy stuff like grow wings or whatever. As long as we stay with available genes right now, no new ones, overall species shouldn’t have any problems, as we have existed with these genes for centuries and there are some countries with only blonde people or only black-haired people, and none of them showed a propensity to disease or low intelligence, so it’s all fine.
