Tony Bennett: If Americans Keep Firearms, “Rest of the World Will Really Take Care Of Us”

A semi-coherent Tony Bennett said during a “Demand A Plan” press conference yesterday that if the government does not prevent violence it associates with the possession of firearms, “the rest of the world’s going to really take care of us, in a very bad way.”

Bennett says outlawing firearms in America will “show the rest of the world how to behave.”

The 86-year old singer joined celebrities Amanda Peet and Chris Rock at the media event sponsored by Demand a Plan, an organization fronted by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, an anti-Second Amendment group founded and funded by the billionaire mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg. The organization is also funded by the Joyce Foundation. It has worked to place gun manufacturers under consumer-product health-and-safety oversight by the government and run them out of business.

Actor Amanda Peet admitted during the news conference that outlawing firearms will not prevent future Sandy Hook massacres. Despite this, she insisted the government must move against “gun violence,” shorthand for outlawing firearms and rolling back the Second Amendment.

“Doing nothing has failed. To people who question the potential effectiveness and/or practicality of these measures, to the people who say it would have happened anyway or we won’t catch everybody, I say doing nothing has failed.” Peet said.

Comedian Chris Rock, who considers Obama the “Dad of the Country” – in other words, an authoritarian figure who must be obeyed – deferred to other speakers, including an Aurora shooting victim and a pediatric surgeon.

Bennett mentioned the Nazis during his remarks about firearms ownership. “It’s the kind of turn that happened to the great country of Germany, when Nazis came over and created tragic things, and they had to be told off,” he said. “And if we continue this kind of violence and accept it in our country, the rest of the world’s going to really take care of us, in a very bad way.”

Mr. Bennett failed to mention that the Nazis outlawed and confiscated firearms from politically ostracized minorities, most notably the Jews. The Nazi Weapons Law, notes Jews for the Preservation of Firearms, “gave Hitler’s Nazi party a stranglehold on the Germans, many of whom did not support the Nazis. We found that the Nazis did not invent ‘gun control’ in Germany. The Nazis inherited gun control and then perfected it: they invented handgun control.”

The Nazi gun law was based on the preceding Weimar Republic’s restricitve gun laws. Like the United States circa 2013, the Weimar Republic considered itself a democracy.

Mr. Bennett was talking about Nazi militarism and the Second World War. He did not elaborate on how upholding the Second Amendment in the United States might lead to a world war. It might, however, lead to a civil war if the government begins forcibly confiscating guns.

As for the rest of the world solving America’s supposed “gun problem” and subduing its “gun culture,” in December the authoritarian government of China called for Americans to be disarmed, arguing that the Sandy Hook school massacre demands “no delay for U.S. gun control.”
