Top DOJ Lawyers Spoke ‘In Codes’ For Fear Of Being Wiretapped By White House ‘Lunatics’

Last night on PBS, Bill Moyers interviewed investigative journalist Jane Mayer and mentioned that in Mayer’s new book, she notes that FBI agents refused to participate in the CIA’s interrogation of terror suspects at Guantánamo Bay because they determined it to be “borderline torture.” Moyers then asked, “Who were some of the other conservative heroes, as you call them, in your book?”

Mayer remembered one top Justice Department lawyer and “very conservative member of this administration” who said that after participating in White House meetings authorizing torture, he believed that “lunatics had taken over the country.”
Mayer said two other top DOJ lawyers had to develop a system of speaking codes because they feared they were being wiretapped while others described an “atmosphere of intimidation,” mainly from Vice President Dick Cheney:
MAYER: There was such an atmosphere of intimidation. … They felt so endangered in some ways that, at one point, two of the top lawyers from the Justice Department developed this system of talking in codes to each other because they thought they might be being wiretapped…by their own government. They felt like they might be kind of weirdly in physical danger. They were actually scared to stand up to Vice President Cheney.

Mayer later said that “there is a paper trail” documenting U.S. torture policies “that goes right to the top of our govenment” and that Congress “is beginning to” get to the truth and “piece it together.”
Mayer added that the truth to the White House policies is “a humungous jigsaw puzzle” because “there are many, many secrets we still don’t know. There are legal memos that nobody’s ever seen.”

No one has power over another unless that other person decides to COMPLY/Submit/obey. As would be in any other situation like this if done yesteryear, those who understood that illegal/immoral orders were being given would just be mutinize. It is as simple as that. All talking has gone its limits and yet part of this ariticle alludes that there are still more “investigations” needed. What difference do the investigaitons accomplish when the answers are known and yet nothing is done about it?
This is all rather worrisome.

i am pretty sure that around the year 2000 the white house had a 25 year war plan to take over the middle east. 9/11 was an inside job to get the war started and now they will lie to us until the year 2025 about what is really going on over there. around the year 2050 the truth will come out and, as usual in america, it will be too late for us to do anything about it.

MEP calls for EU ban on cigarettes by 2025

An Irish MEP has called for a total ban on tobacco products across the European Union within 15 years.
Avril Doyle, head of the Irish faction within the centre-right European People’s Party (EPP), on Tuesday told a Brussels conference on how to prevent the tobacco industry from lobbying EU politicians that she wants cigarettes and cigars illegal in Europe by 2025.

“I would be happy to see a long-term target date, say 2025, when it would be illegal to sell tobacco products in the EU,” she said to an applauding crowd of parliamentarians and global health experts.
“That would give them 15 years’ notice for all our citizens to realise just how serious we are about not allowing their continued sale in the EU, and hopefully elsewhere,” she added.
Ms Doyle, who sits on the steering committee of the EPP, the largest political group in the EU assembly, organised the conference, which was tasked with developing ways for the EU to comply with what anti-smoking campaigners call the most important article of the World Health Organisation’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, Article 5.3, which requires its signatories to prevent lobbying by tobacco companies on any public health policies.
The current EU health commissioner, Androulla Vassiliou, also in attendance, declared to the audience of health professionals and anti-smoking campaigners: “I am ready to commit today to not accept any invitation coming from the tobacco industry or those working in its interests so long as I hold office.”
She said she expects a European Commission and member state decision on how to implement the article to be achieved by September, adding: “It wouldn’t make much sense if only the commission acted in this way,” and called on other public bodies to not talk to tobacco lobbyists either.
Talk of banning tobacco and tobacco lobbyists came as the commission unveiled plans to make Europeans pay a lot more for cigarettes by hiking excise taxes.
The commission wants to harmonise tobacco taxes across Europe in order to discourage smoking and clamp down on smuggling.

See what they did to their fellow Romans, once Christ became fashionable, see how they murdered hundreds of thousands to appease his divine bloodlust, know of the butchery they call the Crusades, an era of horrific violence and attempted conquest, where even children were not spared, as they were eaten half-raw by starving Christians. Witness how “good” Christians treated their chattel, their human property, their slaves, and how they forced conversion on unwilling peoples, all in the name of mercy and love.
