Top Rocket Scientist: No Evidence CO2 Causes Global Warming

The campaign to force people to accept that “the debate is over” and that man-made CO2 emissions are driving climate change is in deep trouble, with another top global warming advocate – rocket scientist and carbon accounting expert Dr. Richard Evans – completely reversing his position.

Evans was a consultant to the Australian Greenhouse Office from 1999 to 2005 and he wrote the carbon accounting model (FullCAM) that measures Australia’s compliance with the Kyoto Protocol.
In an article for The Australian newspaper, Evans highlights why he was so keen to jump on board the man-made explanation without there being any clear conclusion as to what was driving temperature increases in the period from the end of the 70’s to 1998.
“The evidence was not conclusive, but why wait until we were certain when it appeared we needed to act quickly?” writes Evans. “Soon government and the scientific community were working together and lots of science research jobs were created. We scientists had political support, the ear of government, big budgets, and we felt fairly important and useful (well, I did anyway). It was great. We were working to save the planet.”
“But since 1999 new evidence has seriously weakened the case that carbon emissions are the main cause of global warming, and by 2007 the evidence was pretty conclusive that carbon played only a minor role and was not the main cause of the recent global warming,” he concludes.
Evans points out that the “greenhouse signature” that would indicate CO2 emissions are driving temperature increases – “a hot spot about 10km up in the atmosphere over the tropics” – which would be evident if climate change was man-made, is simply non-existent.
“If there is no hot spot then an increased greenhouse effect is not the cause of global warming. So we know for sure that carbon emissions are not a significant cause of the global warming,” he writes.
Evans highlights data collected from satellites positioned around the globe that indicates temperatures have dropped about 0.6C in the past year – back to 1980 levels. Such figures are complimented by anecdotal evidence of a cooling pattern – China recently experienced its coldest winter in 100 years while northeast America was hit by record snow levels and Britain suffered its coldest April in decades as late-blooming daffodils were pounded with hail and snow on an almost daily basis.

Evans also cites historical climate change and the fact that CO2 does not cause, but in fact lags behind temperature increase by as much as 800 years.
“The new ice cores show that in the past six global warmings over the past half a million years, the temperature rises occurred on average 800 years before the accompanying rise in atmospheric carbon. Which says something important about which was cause and which was effect,” he writes.
“The last point was known and past dispute by 2003, yet Al Gore made his movie in 2005 and presented the ice cores as the sole reason for believing that carbon emissions cause global warming. In any other political context our cynical and experienced press corps would surely have called this dishonest and widely questioned the politician’s assertion,” writes Evans.
Evans warns that the insistence on behalf of the man-made advocate establishment that “the debate is over,” despite the fact that a CO2 link to climate change “was merely asserted, not proved,” and the glee with which governments have adopted measures to fight global warming under this false assumption, will cause economies to be wrecked and as temperatures cool further, authorities will have to face charges of “criminal negligence” for deliberately lying to the public about climate change.
Evans’ public reversal of his position arrives on the back of two peer reviewed scientific papers, one of which documents how C02 emissions in fact cool the planet’s temperature and another that shows how the IPCC overstated CO2’s effect on temperature by as much as 2000 per cent.
As we reported last week, the world is cooling, sea levels are falling, ice is spreading, there are fewer extreme weather events, and it was hotter 1000 years ago, yet the myth of global warming is providing governments the excuse to micromanage every aspect of our lives, with Al Gore now openly calling for a carbon tax on the energy we use.
Andrew Bolt of the Australian Sun-Herald has put together a series of graphs based on numbers from a plethora of scientific bodies to prove that the most alarmist claims about climate change are not only unproven, but in fact the complete opposite of what man-made global warming advocates proclaim is now being observed.

You are right. I have had the same thing happen to me. This environMENTALists really put the mental back in the word. I got attacked because one of the many sources I gave was to the statement by Dr. Fred Singer. They attacked Singer because he was one of the scientists who did an independent study on second-hand smoke that showed that second-hand smoke is NOT as bad as first-hand smoke and was not near as bad as the government portends. So, since he did a study that “supported the tobacco industry”, his credentials are invalid. Of course they failed to refute most of the other things I stated, including the statement made in February 2008 by Drew Shindell from NASA’s Goddard Institute where he said that due to the severe cold winter of 2007 and the disappearance of sunspots being a direct cause for the cold winter that NASA would now look at the impact of solar activity as a major cause of global warming. The statement by Drew Shindell is very damning, because he has for the longest time been a proponent of anthropogenic global warming. Of course, one only has to look at NASA’s own data to realize the direct correlation of solar activity in relation to global warming and cooling.
I think no matter what amount of evidence we present, there will always be a CO2 causes global warming group, just like there are still flat-Earthers.

Is it just me or is Al Gore a big A-hole?? He’s not a scientist by any strech, and yet he makes this movie and has everyone running around talking scared. I hope that whatever happens that the truth comes out and we can stick to the facts. Hearing the phrase ‘climate change’ over and over again as in we have to battle and fight climate change is driving me crazy. Like if we were all living a scant 10,000 years ago would we be trying to battle the ice age??? Well, we have the War on Drugs, The War on Terror, I think it’s time we had the War on Carbon!! In case any people out there look back at certain times in history and wonder how people could be so stupid and ignorant, well I think these days we are none better and most likely given all our advantages, probably worse. Any person in America with half a brain can figure out that this Global Warming issue is NOT caused by human interference, but the sun.
This propaganda has been foretold many years ago during and after the Kennedy administration in a study entitled “The Iron Mountain Report” where a handful of “Insider Scientists” were gathered to determine how to maintain control of the sheep during the transition from the period of war to a period of peace.
Global Warming was one of the ways in which the powers could maintain this control of their slaves and generate reveue for the New World Order through the Carbon tax and this is exactly what is happening to our world as we speak.

Terry Wogan has worked it out. When we have unusually hot weather it’s because of ‘Global Warming’. When we have unusually cold weather it’s because of ‘Climate Change’. That way we can blame contradictory weather events on the same cause.
It’s important that we see the effects of global warming, otherwise we might not believe it. That’s why they got to the North pole in the summer to show ice melting then 6 months later they go to the South pole to show ice melting (southern hemesphere summer). In reality this TV prop means little more than a TV reporter standing outside Paleament when reporting something political. It adds credibility but adds no information.

Huge factory farms cause much more global warming gases (mainly methane) than cars. They never talk about that – they don’t want to inconvenience businesses, they just want to target the little guy. All the cars combined don’t even come close to polluting as much as big agribusiness.
Another thing they’re not talking about is the chemtrails. Why don’t they just stop spewing greenhouse gases (like chlorohexafluoride?) into the air from planes? Oh, yeah, I forgot. Problem – Reaction – Solution.

If anything, should we err too badly, it seems the planet would not hesitate to let us know. hell’s population is gonna grow alot when the likes of Gore and Bush and Cheney pass on. They couldn’t tell the truth if their very lies depended on it. I want to know where all these damned jets that have been spraying us daily for the past week are taking off and landing from. They put a few trails up early today over this part of central texas, but I think the upper level winds are changing as the tropical storm moves closer and they seemed to have stopped. The spraying has been particularly heavy and apparently successful the past few days as the scummy high crud spread from horizon to horizon. I’ve even been noticing the trails in shots on TV of the sky, commercials even. And yet most people have never even looked up and noticed their being sprayed like fruit flies in California. I don’t have much faith that these people will be of any help in reestablishing the rule of law when the crooks in charge declare martial law and begin to exterminate the population. But I have faith that God will give us what we need to defeat Satan and george and dick and their inbred friends.

I hear ya. Been aware of the chemtrail pollution for a couple of years. Used to be real worked up about it, having disputes with everyone. Everyone but my mother laughed at the idea; they say it’s ordinary contrails that expands more depending on altitude. Fat chance. Then why would the exhaust gather together to form a freaking blanket over the entire sky? Sidenote: Not as much chemtrails over my area as there used to be. By the way: Could microwave towers be involved in heating up earth’s surphase (microwaves bouncing on the chemtrail blanket)?

Well- what I want to know is who paid this Evans guy off? This article infuriates me. Its contridictory in itself and provides no evidence to back up anything it says. So Evans says that global warming isn’t caused by Co2 emissions- without a doubt he says- no evidence to prove it he says. But yet he says that the earth is warming- but gives no reason why. Also, he says that CO2 cools the planet. Bullshit. That doesn’t even make sense and you dont have to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out. Its pretty simple- see the earth took billions of years to sequester carbon and other elements out of the atmosphere so that life could survive, it also provided us with a great thing called the ozone layer which also alows us to survive. Without out the ozone and its ability to trap green house gases, the earth would not be warm enough for us to survive on. So doesnt it make sense with the continuing output of Co2 from the growing number of cars, houses, and industries from an evergrowing population of people would make the planet warmer? Also as humans we have also destroyed much forest land which would usually take that carbon out of the atmosphere and use it to grow and produce more life giving oxygen. We have interrupted the carbon cycle. We have had an enormous negative impact on the earth- I dont know what there is to argue about. We need to learn that we depend on the earth for survival and that we are deeply interconnected with it. We need to take responsibility for our actions instead of arguing and placing blame.
So there isn’t a hot spot- isn’t the earth still warming? And Al gore did provide more evidence than ice cores. Another thing, some areas have experienced record breaking cold spells- well that isn’t normal is it? I think that is called climate change! The effects of global warming change the climate duh. Oh and just to let you know, the ice is melting, the sea is rising, there is extreme weather all over the world, drought, flooding, storms, ect. It is not up to us to be part of a debate of how our planet got this way. It is up to us to figure out solutions to these real problems that affect real people. And if reducing our carbon output helps just a little- we should do it. Plus besides contributing to climate change, our reliance on fossil fuels has many other negative affects such as environmental damage like pollution and ecosystem destruction, corporate control (oil companies even having control in our government), and wars(Iraq, Iran). We need to stop arguing and come together to take action.

Stephanie – Solar cycles are responsible for the heating and cooling of the planet. Sunspot activity and general solar output vary through different periods in history for different reasons. The Sun is the only reason that the earth is warm in the first place, right? The rest of the solar system wouldn’t be heating up along with our planet if wasn’t being supplied warmth from the same central point. Research this idea with an open mind and you may be surprised at what you find.
Ultimately, even if the reduction of carbon emissons would help reduce earth temperatures a little bit but would cause a very large problem for a world economy that already has very large problems, it would not be a cost effective way of dealing with a problem that we know has come and gone many times throughout history for the same reasons of which we have very little control.
This is why many historical civilizations worshiped the Sun. They understood that they were at it’s mercy. If you look hard enough at what is going on, you will probably see that we are being denied knowledge of these things by people who understand and wish to keep us at their mercy, insead of the mercy of nature. Carbon emissions taxation is a prime example of this attempt.

First off, his name’s David Evans. Second, there’s no evidence that he’s a “rocket scientist.” Third, even if there were, rocket science is not climatology. Fourth, he’s not a “top global warming advocate,” but an obscure former functionary with no background in climatology or climate modeling. Fifth, he has published no peer-reviewed papers on climate science or climate modeling. Sixth, he’s only published one paper in his career, almost twenty years ago, and it had nothing to do with climatology or geophysics (more details here).
Other than that, great job.

Yes, I agree that we cannot make an assumption that CO2 causes Global Warming, but can you seriously tell me that pollution is not a problem?
I think the CO2 “cap and trade” plan has the potential to be a good idea. It aligns environmentalists’ interests of reducing CO2 pollution with corporations’ interest of saving money….if it costs more to pollute, then the corporations will either reduce their pollution or they will have to pay more, simple as that. On paper, this idea makes sense to me, but I know that it would be difficult to implement globally as some countries wouldn’t comply… “cheating China” for example.

Lou, not sure what part of Jersey you live in but try stepping outside your house…that interesting smell most likely comes from some type of carbon emissions. Lou, I used to jog in Jersey City. I would get up early in the morning before all the cars and buses clogged Kennedy blvd with emissions because it would become unbearable to breathe after 7 A.M. or so.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t CO2 heavier than most if not all the other ingredients in our air supply? The carbon atom makes the molecule heavier than oxygen, for sure. Why is it then, that carbodioxide is claimed to reach such altitudes (that it may block sunlight and also trap sunlight)? Where is the logic?
Brilliant! Obviously, what we really need to worry about is being asphyxiated by CO2 as it piles up on the ground and displaces oxygen. Soon, only the peak of Mt. Everest will be habitable!
Honestly, if you can’t be bothered to learn how the atmosphere works, how can you hope to have a valid opinion on climate change? By your “logic,” life as we know would be impossible…the atmosphere would already have settled into its constituent layers like a salad dressing.

How many bright, cloudless days have we gotten recently compared to decades past?
The only time you will see a cloudless day is when it’s too windy, either in the upper atmosphere where chemtrails are sprayed, or here down below.
That’s part of it. I believe the other part is that we’re going into an ice age.
Prior to an ice age, things warm up a bit. Ice melts a bit. Then it refreezes. (The ice ‘melts’ because of the pressure of ice on top that makes it hard for the ice underneathe to freeze. Tiny fissures are made in the ice floating above water, and eventually the icebergs fall apart.)
This is a natural cycle.

On 8 March 2007 Channel 4 broadcast The Great Global Warming Swindle. This programme sought to challenge the theory that human activity is the major cause of climate change and global warming (also described as the theory of anthropogenic global warming). The programme included contributions from a wide range of scientists and other commentators who variously argued that the current consensus on the causes of global warming was based on unsound science and was politically motivated.
The programme was narrated by film maker Martin Durkin. He also wrote and directed the programme. The narration stated:
“In this film it will be shown that the earth’s climate is always changing. That there is nothing unusual about the current temperature and that the scientific evidence does not support the notion that climate is driven by carbon dioxide, man-made or otherwise. Everywhere you are told that man-made climate change is proved beyond doubt. But you are being told lies.”
“…This is a story of how a theory about climate turned into a political ideology…it is the story of the distortion of a whole area of science…it is the story of how a political campaign turned into a bureaucratic bandwagon…”
Elsewhere the programme narration stated:
“Global warming has gone beyond politics, it is a new kind of morality”; “…as the frenzy over man-made global warming grows shriller, many senior scientists say the actual scientific basis for the theory is crumbling”; “It is a distortion of a whole area of science”; “….the global warming alarm is now beyond reason”.
Ofcom received 265 complaints about the programme from members of the public. Ofcom also received a substantial complaint 176 pages long from a group of complainants, some of whom were scientists (“the Group Complaint”). In summary, the complainants were concerned that the programme was not presented with due impartiality and that as a factual programme it misled the audience by misrepresenting “facts”. The Group Complaint also offered a very detailed and critical analysis of the programme.
Factual Accuracy
The complainants questioned the factual accuracy of the programme, suggesting that it:
(a) presented facts in a misleading way; and
(b) omitted facts, issues or alternative views………………………………”

Cmon, anyone who has been to China, or Los Angeles, or New York City knows that the disgusting air we breathe doesn’t come from any volcano…it comes from humans aka carbon emissions. Who wants to live their life breathing exhaust from one of those big double-decker buses?
I’m not making the assumption CO2 causes global warming, but I think that the “cap and trade” program could do more good then harm. Companies that over-pullute would either have to make capital expenditures on technology to pollute less, or they would pay more for their over-pollution.
I understand the economics of the higher costs being passed on to the consumer, but in the long run the economy will adjust as usual when new lesser-polluting technologies become the norm and are less expensive.

Listen. The CO2 is being “sucked up” by plants into the natural cycle of nature again, right? I mean, come on, only about 0.08 or so is CO2 in the air we breathe, the rest is being incorporated in oxygen-producing plants. There’s virtually no surplus. The more CO2 the more and bigger plants, and increased oxygen as a side-effect. What is it that you don’t get?
How can CO2 pile up anyway, when it’s a gas? Plants “inhale” the C02, converts it into 02 which is oxygen, and makes the carbon part of their structure. I don’t understand your point of view. Look. From what I can tell by the way you communicate you’re a bright person, probably much smarter than myself. However, maybe intelligence doesn’t equal logic.

What in the world does CO2 have to do with pollution??????????? Life is dependant upon it! It’s part of our Godgiven natural system for life. Is the world insane? If you don’t like big city air – MOVE or motion to plant new PARKS that have TREES designed to convert CO2 into oxygen. Putting flowers in your apartment would help too.

The Earth’s equilibrium temperature from surface albedo at present-day levels of insolation is about -18 deg. C. The actual average surface temperature is about 15 deg. C. The atmosphere is responsible for that 33K difference, and most of that effect is due to greenhouse gases. So — is CO2 a good thing after all? Of course — it makes the planet inhabitable. And is CO2 also a bad thing? Of course — for the same reason that the thermostat in your house doesn’t go up to 50C (122F). It is possible to have too much of a good thing.
If you want to know about the carbon cycle, and how CO2 levels can rise despite the existence of natural sinks, a good starting point is to google “CDIAC.” If you want to understand the lag between temperature and CO2 levels in ice cores, google “NOAA Vostok” and read some of those papers. But if you see the whole issue in political, rather than scientific terms, neither one of those sources is going to be much use to you.

CO2 is classified as a primary air pollutant. It is emitted directly into the air from combustion like when you see one of those large double-decker buses spewing black smog all over the city.

I’m not moving, and I think that I have the right to clean air and also to voice my opinion about it. The trees in Cental Park aren’t helping, and believe me they’re not going to spend money on expensive real estate for another Central Park. The air situation is getting WORSE, not better. On a side note, the “you don’t like it then MOVE” argument never works.
I would like to here more from you about the “cap and trade” idea….nobody seems to be talking about that one??

Al Gore is just bitter about having the 2000 election taken from him so he took up the globel warming thing. using CO2 as an excuse they are also banning ventilin inhalers which have saved many asmatics. the newspaper report i read said now they have to use inhalers that are far more expensive and are less effective. I wonder what other meds they’ll take away from us in the name of globel warming.
