Top Source Says Bush To Strike Iran By August

The Bush administration is planning to carry out air strikes against Iran by August and two U.S. Senators have already been briefed on the attack according to a report in the highly respected Asia Times, which cites a former assistant secretary of state and U.S. career diplomat as its source.
Muhammad Cohen’s article claims that Senator Diane Feinstein, Democrat of California, and Senator Richard Lugar, Republican of Indiana, were informed of the attack plan and planned to voice their opposition to it in a New York Times editorial in an attempt to offset the air strike. The editorial is yet to materialize.
According to Cohen’ source, the Neo-Cons believe that they can perpetrate a "limited" air strike aimed more at sending a message than destroying Iran’s supposed nuclear program, but the consequences of such a move are likely to provoke a massive Iranian retaliation, as President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has consistently warned.
The George W Bush administration plans to launch an air strike against Iran within the next two months, an informed source tells Asia Times Online, echoing other reports that have surfaced in the media in the United States recently.
Two key US senators briefed on the attack planned to go public with their opposition to the move, according to the source, but their projected New York Times op-ed piece has yet to appear.
The source, a retired US career diplomat and former assistant secretary of state still active in the foreign affairs community, speaking anonymously, said last week that that the US plans an air strike against the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). The air strike would target the headquarters of the IRGC’s elite Quds force. With an estimated strength of up to 90,000 fighters, the Quds’ stated mission is to spread Iran’s revolution of 1979 throughout the region.
The source said the White House views the proposed air strike as a limited action to punish Iran for its involvement in Iraq. The source, an ambassador during the administration of president H W Bush, did not provide details on the types of weapons to be used in the attack, nor on the precise stage of planning at this time. It is not known whether the White House has already consulted with allies about the air strike, or if it plans to do so.
Speculating on whether such a strike will benefit either McCain or Obama on the eve of the presidential election, the report points out that McCain has built his candidacy around an aggressive foreign policy therefore would be the likelier to take advantage.
"A strike on Iran could rally American voters to back the war effort and vote for McCain," states the article.
"On the other hand, an air strike on Iran could heighten public disenchantment with Bush administration policy in the Middle East, leading to support for the Democratic candidate, whoever it is."
Iran’s inevitable response would send oil prices skyrocketing towards $200 dollars a barrel as global instability threatened to boil over into numerous different regions in the aftermath of any attack. McCain’s ability to grandstand as a tough war leader would no doubt be amplified by a compliant corporate media and a sizable proportion of the American public would rally behind the Arizona Senator, especially if American interests were the subject of terrorist attacks on behalf of Hezbollah and Hamas.
China’s response to any attack, with the Communist nation being Iran’s biggest customer for oil, would also be key. Any inkling of a hostile reaction would place the world under the greatest threat since the height of the cold war.
Lugar and Feinstein’s public opposition to the plan "would likely create a public groundswell of criticism that could induce the Bush administration reconsider its plan," states the article but, "Given their obligations to uphold the secrecy of classified information, it is unlikely the senators would reveal the Bush administration’s plan or their knowledge of it."
The impending invasion of Iran has been on the grapevine for the past three summers running and many are beginning to fear that the "boy who cried wolf" mentality is starting to discredit those who repeatedly warn of the coming attack. However, rhetoric has notably heated in the past few months.
During Bush’s recent visit to Israel, an Israeli official claimed that a senior member in Bush’s entourage had stated in a closed meeting that Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney had resolved to attack Iran before they left office.
During a recent news conference at Israel’s parliament, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House majority leader Steny Hoyer stated that the military option against Iran was still on the table.
Prominent political figures such as Zbigniew Brzezinski and Gary Hart have warned that an attack on Iran won’t arrive absent a staged provocation or a new Gulf of Tonkin style incident.
During a 2007 Senate Foreign Relations Committee meeting, Brzezinski alluded to the potential for the Bush administration to manufacture a false flag Gulf of Tonkin type incident in describing a "plausible scenario for a military collision with Iran," which would revolve around "some provocation in Iraq or a terrorist act in the US blamed on Iran, culminating in a ‘defensive’ US military action against Iran that plunges a lonely America into a spreading and deepening quagmire eventually ranging across Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.”
In an open letter to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, former Senator and current CFR member Hart warned the Iranian President that he would be, "Well advised to read the history of the sinking of the U.S.S. Maine in Havana harbor in 1898 and the history of the Gulf of Tonkin in 1964," two false flag events manufactured by the U.S. itself to kick start a war.

I talk with an Iranian guy I know several a week. I am
always asking about this stuff and he assures me it’s just a game,
no attack, no bombs. Finally, I begged for info. He was frustrated with me
said he has mother, father, grandmother and other family members there
and talks with them daily. If they were in danger he would send for them.
Assured me they said absolutely nothing is going on and US will not attack.
Told me to ‘get a grip and quit worrying.’
So, what am I to believe? BTW this guy owns a business but has to
work a job on the side to stay afloat. So he’s not wealthy.

If it happens in August as they say, it will almost guarantee a victory for McCain, unless everything doesn’t go to plan. Another thing, is that maybe Iran leaders want an attack. They have alot of internal pressure from the young in there country wanting change, if an attack happens it will stifle the change crowd and help solidify the ruling gang that has been in charge. This is a bad idea for him to start something this late in the game and expect someone else to clean up.

Attacking Iran would absolutely, certifiably DESTROY America once and for all. Overnight, oil will hit $200 on its way up to $300. Gas will start at $6 on its way up to $10 a gallon. MILLIONS will lose their jobs within a month, and food riots won’t be far off. Eddie (#30), thanks for your response. I agree that you don’t have to be a prophet to know things and I’m sure there are many aware, astute individuals who have figured things out ahead of the game. It’s just interesting that this persecuted man from Romania had a vision of things to come. I’ve been aware of many things myself for many years, but this thing with Iran has me a bit worried, especially since it is not only Iran we will be dealing with. I hate war and destruction. Hasn’t there been enough misery and suffering in the world? Apparently not enough to suit the insane warmongers bent on destroying everything good that is left. We’d be wise to take these warnings seriously. I think a sense of purpose and even urgency is needed in a push for 9/11 truth, which I believe is the best chance we have at getting at this rat’s nest of traitor’s. If America and/or Israel attack(s) Iran, World opinion will turn sharply against these two waring states for good. These should also expect their international commercial and political interests to be shunned, including outright attacks on their nationals abroad.
In short, an attack on Iran is nothing short of lunacy. It inevitably will lead to closure of oil tanker traffic in the Persian Gulf, which means a 40% cut in world-wide exportable oil. This will lead to economic catastrophe and politic instability everywhere. It will also result in new, dangerous political unions against America and Israel.

This is so scary, I’m so scared of what will happen to my kids, my husband, my other family, my firends and every other innocent american! All Bush thinks about is himself and how he’ll make out in the end. He deserves the same fate as Sadam Hussein because I am convinced that it was him who planned 9/11 and killed all of those innocent people! And now he’s killing hundreds of american soldiers for what? So he can make millions off the oil? We were told by a friend who is a government official that every american should stock up on food and own at least one fire arm, and that’s from a government official! How scary, I fear my kids will never live to grow old and have their own family and experience life. I fear for all of our lives! Instead of attacking all americans why can’t these people and other countries just target the ones responsible for all this mess like Bush and Cheney?

The subtle mention of China’s response is what really is at stake in any Iran attack. China’s interests will be threatened and they in turn could invade Taiwan or any number of other nations that we have pacts to support in the event of an attack on their nations. If China and Russian get together we could be very well surprised by what happens to us. It wont be good, but then again it is just staged theater for the masses. In reality the world is being restructured and all the players know their part in the plan to eliminate and reduce the worlds population. Let’s just hope that China or Russia or even Israel does not go nuclear with their arsenal of weapons because going nuclear will be the end of us all.

Tina don’t worry I know that me and mine plan on protecting and helping as many people as we possibly can. We all have families too. I still think its a good idea to invest in precious metals though….not gold and silver but brass and lead if you get my drift. There are plenty of people out there that know that the cat almost out of the bag and I think if we all stick together on this we can get our country and our lives back. Just get a gun…preferably one that holds a lot of ammo, ie: ak-47, Ar-15, mp5….etc. Learn to use it and don’t be afraid to use it to protect your family and yourself. Thats the best advice I can give you.

Write congress house of reps and senators, email bush at white house and cheney too, call the white house and tell them not to bomb Iran. Just for the hell of it. Act like you are their boss and you are the decider. Isn’t that the way it’s supposed to be? If everyone did that, at least we gave a direct order in multitudes. They do what they want, but it helps get out the anger. Then when do we march on washington, when russian missles are flying overhead? Christ was not hung on a cross. The word for cross is not found in the early translations. It was added later. The words that are found are words that mean tree (xylon) or stauros (upright stake or beam). look at acts 5:30 in the king james version. The council collected all the various “Gospels” being passed around by the poor people of the Roman Empire (Messianic Judaic Converts) and threw out the ones that were not easily paganized. The two most popular gospels of that time were the Gospel of Mary (mother of Jesus) and the gospel of Judas which were subsequently banned in the Empire on penalty of death. Why do you think there aren’t 12 gospels? Why do you think the chapter after the gospels is called ROMANS? Why do you call Jesus LORD when the FIRST Commandment says there is only ONE LORD?
Anyway all these questions will be settled on the Great Day of Judgment when all will be called to answer for their deeds.

This could be disinformation deliberately put out to mislead the public, Iran, and other nations. I would not count on an attack by August since the unpopularity of such an attack is still high in the American mind and around the world. I would also wonder what our intelligence sources on the ground in Iran are telling the administration about Iran’s ability to resist such attack, and if they are saying we are ready or not to do so. Thirdly, what kind of political pressure could the current administration, its capital mostly spent in int’l diplomacy, broker with the UN in order to attack Iran.
Recall from previous years that, despite all the strongarm rhetoric to the contrary, the Bush Administration attacked Afghanistan and waged further aggressive war against the Iraq with the blessing of the United Nations.
Such blessing has not yet been granted here. At least not publicly.

It is not a religion in terms of what dogma men create, as is created within such religions as the Roman Catholic religion, i.e. There should be two words to describe what we call “religion” because there is a way of life for all of us, and there are also -conversely- institutions that tell us how we should live. I find the Bible to be God’s own words, so we don’t need man’s unless inspired by God.
A Christian is simply a “follower of Christ”. If one does not subscribe to the direct teachings of Christ, then I don’t consider that person a Christian no matter what they call themselves. “Christian” has also been a term duplicitously used to classify certain institutions, which may or may not support true Christianity.
This all becomes confusing when the truth is politicized. Otherwise, it is simple.
Yet there is the Word without all these words.
My father used to read the Bible profusely. At the onset of later stages of Alzheimer’s, and in reading the story of the nativity to him, he uttered the most words he could: “Too many words.”
We are all faithless, and so we need the Bible to instruct. But true faith needs no words. Because if we believe we are in God’s hands, then we don’t need proof of his love, intentions and motivations.
The people here who look at things from a spiritual perspective do so because they are trying to reason out the meaning behind all this. There IS a spiritual element to this; in fact, that is all there is behind it. It is, in every story we see here, in the fight between the little people and the big corporations, in the global elite vs. the people, a good versus evil. And while we may have to endure hardships in our lifetime, we know the outcome as good always prevails, as the Bible tells us so.
So let those who are comforted by the Bible, be comforted by the Bible.

I Agree with you AoS about the ads on GCN. It’s a discredit to Alex Jones’ cause and show to have some of those ads airing with it. Anyone listening for the first time could easily dismiss whatever was said on the show as just crazy “conspiracy theory” when there are real issues and well informed guests on during the program. Although I have heard Alex on numerous occasions say that he has no control over the ads and does not endorse any of them unless one hears his voice in the ad.

A Sensible Path on Iran

Current U.S. policy toward the regime in Tehran will almost certainly result in an Iran with nuclear weapons. The seemingly clever combination of the use of “sticks” and “carrots,” including the frequent official hints of an American military option “remaining on the table,” simply intensifies Iran’s desire to have its own nuclear arsenal. Alas, such a heavy-handed “sticks” and “carrots” policy may work with donkeys but not with serious countries. The United States would have a better chance of success if the White House abandoned its threats of military action and its calls for regime change.
Consider countries that could have quickly become nuclear weapon states had they been treated similarly. Brazil, Argentina and South Africa had nuclear weapons programs but gave them up, each for different reasons. Had the United States threatened to change their regimes if they would not, probably none would have complied. But when “sticks” and “carrots” failed to prevent India and Pakistan from acquiring nuclear weapons, the United States rapidly accommodated both, preferring good relations with them to hostile ones. What does this suggest to leaders in Iran?
To look at the issue another way, imagine if China, a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a country that has deliberately not engaged in a nuclear arms race with Russia or the United States, threatened to change the American regime if it did not begin a steady destruction of its nuclear arsenal. The threat would have an arguable legal basis, because all treaty signatories promised long ago to reduce their arsenals, eventually to zero. The American reaction, of course, would be explosive public opposition to such a demand. U.S. leaders might even mimic the fantasy rhetoric of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad regarding the use of nuclear weapons.
A successful approach to Iran has to accommodate its security interests and ours. Neither a U.S. air attack on Iranian nuclear facilities nor a less effective Israeli one could do more than merely set back Iran’s nuclear program. In either case, the United States would be held accountable and would have to pay the price resulting from likely Iranian reactions. These would almost certainly involve destabilizing the Middle East, as well as Afghanistan, and serious efforts to disrupt the flow of oil, at the very least generating a massive increase in its already high cost. The turmoil in the Middle East resulting from a preemptive attack on Iran would hurt America and eventually Israel, too.
Given Iran’s stated goals — a nuclear power capability but not nuclear weapons, as well as an alleged desire to discuss broader U.S.-Iranian security issues — a realistic policy would exploit this opening to see what it might yield. The United States could indicate that it is prepared to negotiate, either on the basis of no preconditions by either side (though retaining the right to terminate the negotiations if Iran remains unyielding but begins to enrich its uranium beyond levels allowed by the Non-Proliferation Treaty); or to negotiate on the basis of an Iranian willingness to suspend enrichment in return for simultaneous U.S. suspension of major economic and financial sanctions.
Such a broader and more flexible approach would increase the prospects of an international arrangement being devised to accommodate Iran’s desire for an autonomous nuclear energy program while minimizing the possibility that it could be rapidly transformed into a nuclear weapons program. Moreover, there is no credible reason to assume that the traditional policy of strategic deterrence, which worked so well in U.S. relations with the Soviet Union and with China and which has helped to stabilize India-Pakistan hostility, would not work in the case of Iran. The widely propagated notion of a suicidal Iran detonating its very first nuclear weapon against Israel is more the product of paranoia or demagogy than of serious strategic calculus. It cannot be the basis for U.S. policy, and it should not be for Israel’s, either.
An additional longer-range benefit of such a dramatically different diplomatic approach is that it could help bring Iran back into its traditional role of strategic cooperation with the United States in stabilizing the Gulf region. Eventually, Iran could even return to its long-standing and geopolitically natural pre-1979 policy of cooperative relations with Israel. One should note also in this connection Iranian hostility toward al-Qaeda, lately intensified by al-Qaeda’s Web-based campaign urging a U.S.-Iranian war, which could both weaken what al-Qaeda views as Iran’s apostate Shiite regime and bog America down in a prolonged regional conflict.
Last but not least, consider that American sanctions have been deliberately obstructing Iran’s efforts to increase its oil and natural gas outputs. That has contributed to the rising cost of energy. An eventual American-Iranian accommodation would significantly increase the flow of Iranian energy to the world market. Americans doubtless would prefer to pay less for filling their gas tanks than having to pay much more to finance a wider conflict in the Persian Gulf.

I’ll be honest, I rolled my eyes when I saw the headline for this article. Last month there was an article on here saying May was supposed to be the month we attacked Iran. Well May has come and is about gone and still nothing. I’m not saying we’re not going to attack Iran, all I’m saying is the sources on this site when it pertains to Iran are clearly not very credible and it’s starting to get annoying. I think they’re articles would be more relevent if they kept the dates out of them and just talked about issues concerning the potential attack on Iran.

I think all these rumblings of War with Iran for the past 3+ years are nothing more than excuses to keep oil prices sky high, a situation that would benefit the Bush/Cheney oil-soaked crime families to no end. I say they should be indicted for commodity market manipulation. What better position would a price manipulator be in than to be head of state of the world’s strongest military threatening combat in the most strategically important (for energy) region on the planet? That’s their game. They just park carrier groups in the Persian Gulf, and while everybody sweats what they’re going to do next, they are quietly raking in hundreds of billions in oil profits. They issue press releases every couple of weeks to scare everybody and keep the price climbing ever upward.
