GOP nominee Donald Trump labeled Hillary Clinton’s running mate Tim Kaine a “fool” and a “crook” Tuesday night during the Vice Presidential debate, as Kaine was soundly beaten by Pence by all accounts.

Trump was live tweeting during the debate when he made the comments that to him Kaine looks like a comic book villain:

Trump also tweeted out that Hillary’s VP pick “looks like a fool”:

Polls afterwards showed across the board that the public believe Pence won the debate after Kaine repeatedly attempted without success to interrupt the GOP candidate.

In a CNN/ORC instant poll, a plurality of people believed Pence had won, 48 percent to 42 percent.

MSNBC host Chris Matthews said Pence handily won the debate and noted that at time Kaine appeared “desperate”.

“Overall, I think the winner tonight will end up being, in terms of the debate and what they were trying to accomplish, Pence, because Pence really was solid,” Matthews said. “He looked like he had his head screwed on, and I think that’s going to look very important for [Donald] Trump, who doesn’t often look like he has his head screwed on. I think it was very important for him to look like a grown-up.”

Trump himself tweeted, “Mike Pence won big!”

Some choice highlights from the debate were Pence noting that Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign has been “an avalanche of insults”:

“I must have hit a nerve here, because at a time of great challenge in the life of this nation where we’ve weakened America’s place in the world, stifled America’s economy, the campaign of Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine has been an avalanche of insults,” Pence said.

Pence was responding to Kaine calling him Trump’s “apprentice” and saying Clinton would be a ‘you’re hired’ president while Trump would be a ‘you’re fired’ president.

“I appreciate the ‘you’re hired, you’re fired’ thing, senator,” Pence retorted. “You use that a whole lot, a lot of pre-done lines.”

Pence also noted that it was Hillary Clinton who labeled half of all Trump supporters as a “basket of deplorables”.

“To be honest with you, if Donald Trump had said all the things you said he said and the way you said he said them, he still wouldn’t have a fraction of the insults that Hillary Clinton leveled when she said that half of our supporters were a basket of deplorables.” Pence urged.

“She said the were irredeemable, they were not American,” Pence added. “I mean, it’s extraordinary … So, Senator, this insult-driven campaign, that’s small potatoes compared to Hillary Clinton calling half of Donald Trump supporters a basket of deplorables.”

Pence exclaimed that he found it “remarkable” that Kaine and Clinton continually spew insults while the Middle East is “literally spinning out of control” as a direct result of Clinton’s actions as secretary of State.

Other Kaine blunders included a claim that the global terrorist threat has subsided over the past eight years of Obama’s Presidency:

“The terrorist threat has decreased in some ways, because bin Laden is dead,” Kaine said.

ISIS anyone?

Kaine also claimed that Hillary eliminated the Iranian nuclear weapons program as Secretary of State:

“Eliminate the Iranian nuclear weapons program?” Pence asked, shaking his head and shocked that Kaine would make such a claim, as even the New York Times has admitted the Obama administration’s Iran deal has done nothing to counter the Iranian nuclear program.

When Pence was in the middle of talking about his memories of the 9/11 attacks, Kaine AGAIN attempted to interrupt and one up him:

Pence simply ignored Kaine, taking the high road, saying “We all lived through that day as a nation. It was heartbreaking.”

Kaine also completely ignored a question about Hillary’s email and Clinton foundation scandals, instead opting to talk about her ‘youth in a Methodist group’:

Kaine also suggested that his own son an active member of the military, would not have been prosecuted if he had treated classified information in the same way Hillary did with her private server.

“If your son or my son handled classified information the way Hillary Clinton did, they would be court-martialed,” Pence said, after noting that Hillary’s emails contained information about drone strikes and ongoing military operations.

“That is absolutely false and you know that,” Kaine replied.

Staunch Trump ally Roger Stone summarized the debate with an early morning tweet that encapsulated how Kaine came across:
