The head of a Libyan militia holding two British journalists captive has accused them of spying on government facilities and of entering the country illegally.
Farah Swehli who commands the Misrata-based Saraya Swehli militia said late yesterday in announcing the allegations that his men must protect the country because the government is unable.
Nicholas Davies-Jones, Gareth Montgomery-Johnson and their Libyan driver were captured in the capital Tripoli on February 21. They were freelancers with the Iranian state-owned Press TV.
Human Rights Watch says its staff were denied access to them last month, despite authorisation from the Libyan Interior Ministry.
