“Like Vietnam without the napalm,” said Spc. Nicholas Gojekian, 21, of Katy, Texas.
A prime agricultural area of vineyards and pomegranate orchards, the 18-miles of valley that the 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment patrols includes Taliban insurgents, booby traps and buried explosives. The troops call the area the “green zone,” but unlike Iraq, where it’s a fortified area in the heart of Baghdad, this green zone can be a hellish place.

Americans never got to vote on the war, never got to vote on pulling our troops out and we don’t get a word in otherwise about anything else. Obama is the one to blame so be pissed at him.
Bring our troops home, yes. But start sending those emails to Congress to get your message heard. Heck, make a fake email address to do it, but get the message out to Congress we never wanted our troops in the Middle East. Its a waste of money and time and troops and those troops are fathers, mothers, sons and daughters who need to come home to their families.
Afghanistan is a never ending war. Russia lost and they were far ruthless than we are. Before them were 100 more armies who never conguered Afghanistan because the people are to spread out and fight the only way they know how, guerilla style.
This area will not be taken over, its impossible without an army so vast it covers every mile of Afghanistan to find every hole under every rock and every person with a gun.
Iraq lost because it had its armies too close together, bunched up like rabbits in a cage. Afghanistan has used the same technique for generations and it works as they don’t bunch up, they move around constantly and our troops are not used to this type of fighting and even as the Vietnam people did, we lost the war there too because they kept moving around and never bunched up as they learned from their mistakes that putting too many together is an easy target like shooting fish in a barrel.
We cannot win this war. It will go on for eternity and not only that, but people come from Syria, Pakistan, Egypt, and other MIddle Eastern nations to fight in Afghanistan against Americans so they never run out of people, but we will.

I do know this, we lost 60,000 troops in Vietnam and how many have we lost so far in this war? I’m not saying you can base the weight of war only on body count but numbers are important. It does not take a White house czar- lol- to figure it out!
And as far as movies go, movies never really represent reality. I’ve spoken with some Vets and the stories they’ve told me…you cant make movies to depict them they would be banded!

For all you who beleive the US was genicidal in Vietnam, be advise the Commies killed more Vietnese civilians after the “Liberation” of Vietnam in their reeducation camps than the US did in the entire war.
As for Afghanistan, trying to liberate/improve a 7th century culture is worthless to us and we should utilize the Prime Directive from Star Trek, and not interfer with more primitive planet/societies and only wack those who are planing harm to the people of the US.

I know two guys who went to Iraq and a dude from afghanistan… It is vietnam over there… Nobody is told of how many casualties we actually have. 15 guys go down at a time in one ambush, govt says jack shit. There is a guy without legs less than a mile down the road from me, he was forced to sell his restaraunt to pay for his bills (needs so many meds and treatments that aren’t given by the gov). Guy less than a mile down the road the other way was shot in the knee, 7 killed and 8 injured in a patrol, he was one of the 8. A recon the nex day, 14 killed and 15 injured, same unit. Took the dude 5 surguries to be able to walk. Nobody (except here) says anything of how many people are injured and killed in these wars, the govt does not release accurate information.
Student teacher at a local school, was in Iraq. Doesn’t talk about it much to anybody, just says “there’s a lot you don’t know.”
There also seem to be a lot of people around here that don’t come home… In our local area… It must be like this throughout the entire nation, but the govt downplays it…

You know what?, I’d like to know How the war is justified, there are no weapons of mass destruction, and to believe that these guys from a cave in the middle of the dessert can come to America for a short time, learn to fly HUGH commercial aircraft with un realistic skill (by some of the maneuvers pulled) all awhile delaying the military from intercepting them and knowing how to disable the beacons, and to all leave the airports on a tight schedule to all be in the air at the same time ( what no delays anywhere) ……….. But lets say o.k. these guys are totally responsible,.. ok, but I hardly think you can punish a country for what 6 guys did. WTF Why are not people here not seeing that this is illegal. I really think the gov is moving our troops out of the country and bringing in foreign troops to take care of all of us. People better wake up and get our military home before we get over run. The war is unjustifiable. Bring everyone and everything home.

I agree with Michael– yeah violence sucks, but when the BAD guys get their asses whooped that’s not a bad thing. It would be great if U.S. troops would all lay down their weapons and surrender and the world could have a hippie love-fest or something, but until that happens, I’ll be cheering for the GOOD guys, even if I disagree with some of their ideology. And the GOOD guys are the poor, the exploited, the oppressed people of the world who are defending THEIR land– NOT imperialist mass murderers. Fuck the troops, let them learn the hard way, since they didn’t learn the genocidal history of their country starting with the Indian Wars. The apparent similarity between Afganistan and Vietnam is that in both cases the U.S. does not fight to win. How could you fight seriously for 15 years without igniting Hanoi on fire (while Jane Fonda was there) like Dresden or Tokyo? Why fight in Afganistan without using the full arsenal? The fact of the matter is that until the U.S. decides to break the enemies will by total war, there is no point in fighting. War is terrible, and this kind of drawn out Vietnam style crap is even worse. It almost makes you wonder if the powers that be want ongoing war with no intention of victory…
